However... one server had an accident and dropped a whole full bowl of yum yum sauce and it splashed all over myself and 2 daughters, our table and wall! The servers are all very nice from what I have experienced and the wait time has never been super duper long for me! Just depends on the size of your party. Passing through and stopped into Ichiban. Was quickly greeted and sat. Our sever was excellent and attentive. It took a bit to get our food but once it came was all delicious. With exception of the steak. TERRIBLE. I just ate the shrimp. The steak tasted old and extremely cheap. Usually hibachi steak is the best. This not so much. Overall, I would eat again. This is a quite nice restaurant. It is reasonably large, reasonably clean and neat, and reasonably comfortable. They are obviously concerned with social distancing. All staff were wearing masks, there is hand sanitizer on all tables. Considering we went on a Monday night, it was surprisingly busy. The service is fair in a cafe-ish sort of way. So, what about the food. We ordered calamari, miso soup, tempura, a dragon roll, vegetable maki roll and a couple of drinks. The calamari was quite nice, the tempura was also quite good although the batter was a little heavy. The sushi was also good but not great and the drinks were cold. The miso soup was very forgettable. It was watery and tasteless. It appeared to me to be a packet mix which was mixed with too much water which was not as hot as it should be. The waitress confirmed the origin of the soup was indeed a packet. Miso soup is a Japanese staple and as a Japanese restaurant, the soup, which is simple to make, should have reflected this. The bottom line is this restaurant is as good as any in Springfield but might struggle in competition with restaurants of a similar Asian bent. But, we may well return as, with the exception of the soup, the food was reasonably good. read more

The clear soup that came with the meal literally tasted like hot water. It had two slivers of raw white button mushroom in it, lame. The hibachi salmon was disgusting. Frozen vegetables pack, decent portion of salmon, but it definitely was not fresh, smelled bad, and the sauce was overly sweet and had snot like consistency. When the plate came out it, my partner and I looked at each other because of how unappetizing it appeared. To the waitress' credit, she did offer to ask if we wanted something to else, but everyone knows you don't turn a plate away and then expect something better to come out. We ordered a couple rolls and I tried 3 orders of sashimi (pepper tuna, salmon, whitetail) the pepper tuna was a little strong to compete with the special, delicate flavors of the tuna...that's my opinion but I know other like it. Each order of sashimi comes with 2 generous slices of fish. We just kept adding to our order and ended up getting a total of 5 rolls, 11 orders of sashimi, 3 small sake and one beer. My boyfriend and I went in to eat and we were seated and we sat for about 20 minutes or longer and we had numerous waitresses walk right around our table and never acknowledged us at all. It got so bad we finally had to leave with no service at all and I do believe that this was due to the fact that my boyfriend is black and I am white. I have never had a problem in there until we came in together to eat. I was so angry I wanted to speak to a manager but my boyfriend said just let it go. They will never get my business after that.
