As we were doing our research on who we wanted to document our big day, the wife found I Luv Photo and fell in love with their style. I admittedly had no strong feelings at first, but after our first in-person meeting with Luis and Clarissa I felt a lot better about bringing them on board. They were very easy going, but definitely paid attention to all of our requests and details we gave them. We first did an engagement shoot on a cold wintery day. We had several locations in the South Loop we wanted to go to, and they drove us around as we shot in front of various murals. Even with the difficult parking and chilly weather they got us to most of our spots, and even the two of them worked well together to make sure we got the shots we wanted, and any improvised shots they saw that looked good. I was very impressed with how Luis handled our group of groomsmen on the day of. I guess it helped that we were a little older but we still goofed around a good amount, but Luis was prepared to still corral us in and get the shots he needed. Luis and Clarissa made sure we kept on schedule, and even though we had to abandon one of the places we wanted to shoot the pictures at our alternate spot still looked great. We got the photos about a month and a half after our wedding, posted on their site for ordering prints and we got a Dropbox link with all the full quality images. We booked Luis and Clarissa for our wedding in July 2012. They were an absolute pleasure to work with and probably our best vendor from the wedding. They also did our engagement shots. They were reliable, consistent, communicative, and the photos came out beautifully. With all the other vendors we had to coordinate, it was such a relief not to have to worry about our photographers! They were such a fun team to work with that my bridal party commented they wished they were friends with Luis and Clarissa. For our engagement photos, we shot them on a windy, dreary day in Wicker Park when it was half raining the entire time. We were not expecting much out of these photos because the weather was terrible, but they came out moody and edgy! On our wedding day they captured all the critical moments. And they made very good use of the interesting, unique spaces in the venue we chose. The photos came out very artistic. My only regret is that I didn't do a "first look" because we had slightly fewer shots of just my husband and me than I would have liked -- we had only an hour between the ceremony and the reception to take photos, and many of these were with the entire wedding party. If I could do it again I would have tried to take more bride+groom shots. All in all, we loved the photos. All our friends thought they looked fantastic too and we got many compliments. The problem with the wedding photography industry is there are shots you need to get, and then a pretty cookie cutter formula for the rest. Add in digital cameras that let you take a million pictures, you can send out most anyone that can depress a shutter release and they'll get enough good picks to take your check and not feel guilty about it. As someone who used to be a semi-pro photographer, that wasn't going to cut it. Luckily, I stumbled across iluvphoto. When I was looking for photographers I made a point to look at portfolios before prices. When I hit the iluvphoto portfolio I was just about instantly sold. The composition was fantastic, lighting is spot on, and there were only a handful of places where I thought I would make this photo a little cooler/warmer. I could not say that for most others. I was impressed by their portfolio, which was tied for most important thing in a photographer for me, the second was that I would be confident I wouldn't notice them during the wedding. That of course is a harder thing to determine. What sold me when meeting them was how they discussed their experience in photojournalism and how they valued being discreet. Everything sounded good, so we booked them. Included in the price was an engagement session, which was really nice because we got to work with them once before the wedding. I was a little intimidated being on the other side of the lens, but they did a great job and I felt confident they would go on to do a great job at the wedding. Wedding day, they were on time, they had a plan, and they executed. I barely knew they were there once we were done with the portraits. I literally had no idea they were there for the ceremony. Perfect. Even for the reception, I didn't really notice short of the flash going off. Before they left, they came and asked if we needed any other pictures. It was exactly what I needed, just didn't have to worry. Six weeks later our photos were delivered to us via Dropbox. The quality was exactly what I was expecting. Plus, we got to keep them all (minus duplicates, out of focus, etc), and we can print wherever we want. Though they do give us a printing credit. Literally the only thing I wish they would have picked up on is that towards the end of portraits I (and my wife) were so tired of smiling that we really just weren't smiling anymore and needed a little nudge. But that is a really minor gripe, especially since at that particular moment things were starting to get panicky because grandparents who were needed for portraits were very late. So you might be asking yourself what does such great service cost? Well, it isn't cheap - and it shouldn't be. Pricing changes so head over to their website and you can see for yourself. It isn't cheap but it's worth the price. Not only do you get two stellar photographers, but you get to keep the photos, you get the engagement session and you get a print credit. You can get sub $1000 photographers, but they come with all sorts of strings attached (can't keep the photos, have to order prints through them, they really just gave a high school kid a camera and said take as many pictures as the memory card can hold...). Very positive experience with this husband and wife team who know what they are doing, so all you have to do is smile and have a good time! Luis and Clarissa were punctual (this is important!), professional, and very easy to work with. I'm the groom, and I have very little patience for the formalities that surround wedding photography: there is something about the pomp and circumstance that I thought would draw out the non-fun parts of my wedding day. I was pleasantly surprised to find that our time with Luis and Clarissa flew by! They were never pushy or demanding, and they must have had a lot of experience dealing with grumpy people, because I felt both excited and energized when our time with them was over (and this was after a couple of forays outdoors in 20 degree weather!). Negatives? You will deal with people in the future who are not as easy to work with. They are the opposite of every horror story you hear about what can go wrong at a wedding. There are not enough superlatives to describe how amazing Luis and Clarissa of iluvphoto are. We hired them for our wedding this May, and from our first contact until they sent us our photos they were the absolute best. I am not going to feign an intricate understanding of photography, but the pictures came out beautifully. They use a photojournalist style, which you can get a feel for from the portfolios on their website. They have great eyes and caught several priceless images. They're always up for experimenting with different cameras and conditions as well if you ask them. They are much more sophisticated than your typical wedding photographers. Luis and Clarissa were such an incredible pleasure to work with for our May 2012 wedding! They are extremely professional and are both very talented photographers - they're just as great at responding to emails as they are at thinking of creative photo angles and locations. They endured record high temperatures without any fatigue and struck the perfect balance between leading the bridal party when necessary and blending right into the wedding when shooting candids. Luis took our groomsmen shenanigans in stride, and Clarissa was a huge help all day in adjusting the bride's wedding dress for photos. Compared to other wedding vendors, you actually end up spending a lot of time with your photographer, and we couldn't have been more comfortable working with Clarissa and Luis. For example, we never talked about taking posed photos of guests during cocktail hour, but we discovered after the wedding that what seemed like all of our friends and family posed for photos during cocktail hour. I LUV I Luv Photo, (THAT'S NOT A TYPO) and Ill give you three reasons why. In today's America, anyone can hold a camera (or cell phone), hit the shutter button, add a cool filter from a trending app then share their 'awesomeness' in seconds, and term that photography (some may even try to sell this). But although tech savvy we are in this 21st century, there still remains no invention to replace art, not just art, but the aesthetics of art. The story telling perception of this husband and wife team (which I bet u, were HS sweethearts, they so act like it) was way beyond our expectation. Like most of you reading this review, my wife and I spent months (3 months in fact), maximizing the benefits of search engines; reading magazines, newspapers, any wedding photography literature my wife came across; calling photographers just to get a vibe; attending annual wedding conventions; asking friends/family for suggestions etc., so when we finally decided to meet with I Luv Photo to discuss our expectations, we still weren't 100% confident we'd chose Chicago's/Chicagoland's top choice for our needs. This all changed the moment we met Luis and Clarissa. These two photographers were so approachable, my wife and I felt as if we'd met them before (which never happened), and this is the "THING 1" we believe was super important. If your wedding photographer(s) has communication issues, drop them immediately. Your wedding MOMENT will never happen again, NEVER. So if your uncomfortable with or having any difficulty communicating effectively to someone whose capturing YOUR MOMENT through THEIR eyes, then find some other eyes to capture your moment immediately. Next is "THING 2 (which leads to thing 3)", 'would I buy stock from this photographer's business?' Weird question uh, but seriously, think about it. My wife and I noticed with other photographers we 'liked', that there always seemed to be an imbalance between true professionalism and simplicity. In short, some photographers had decent work, but their, website, communication and general company presentation was quite unpretentious, not something you'd want to invest a dollar in. On the flip side, we found decent talent that gave so much detail on what they do, how they do it, why they do it, cost for doing it Way A, Way B or Way C, and additional options within Way A, B or C. Along with that, communication with them was unnecessarily complicated. You call one number to get another number or email, to then call that number to be transferred to another number or office, to finally reach an automated response that gives you multiple ways to leave a message, finally, when human interaction is reached, you end up communicating with a tech-lingo savvy money hungry pseudo-professional business person that's 'simply' not understanding one concept, "this is your big day, and things need to be professional but simple, cause you only have a million other things to stress about." ILuvPhoto's blend of simplicity, a refined perspective, communication, professionalism, customer service and guaranteed joy when you unpack their finished product likens to that of a company I'm sure most of us would invest in a share or two of their stock, Apple®. Let's face it, in comparing prices for family, graduation, newborn, business, wedding photography etc. Wedding pictures generally have higher price points (for obvious reasons) but a bit more options. For your wedding day, your going to want the best 'BANG for your BUCK,' without sacrificing any BANG (:-)) . We've compared prices, reviews, quality and styles from so many wedding photographers in Chicago/Chicagoland, Illinois and out of state, and simply put, I Luv Photo's pricing options for their Hollywood Celebrity-like quality and service is ridiculously-down-right the best price points you'd find anywhere. My wife and I are pretty average people (I think so, idk lol), which after much research, made a choice for I Luv Photo. Being a photographer and photography teacher myself, my choice for my wedding photographers was EXTREMELY important to me. Clarissa and Luis far exceeded my expectations from the moment I met them. They both are professional, easy to get along with, and have a wonderful artistic eye. They readily went along with a few suggestions I had for getting fun poses of guests, and they were super organized with their speedy execution of the family formals (I've been in weddings where this was excruciatingly slow- we all just want to get to the drinking and eating already!) But I digress... Clarissa and Luis were both so chill during the whole day, they melted away when it was appropriate to do so but always came back to gently pull my groom and I away for the special shots they still needed to get (this is not something that is easy to do, BTW). Our pictures came back gorgeous and my biggest problem is having to choose which ones are my favorites. My husband and I liked that they were down to earth, easy to talk to, and seemed like they were genuinely interested in the people around them (not just booking a job). We did an engagement session with them on a freezing winter day, and they'd picked out a few spots in our neighborhood for photos. We had Luis and Clarissa photograph our wedding in June 2014. They are not only awesome photographers but incredibly responsive and organized! I was a little stressed about how to make all of different types of locations I was envisioning work out, but Luis laid out the time line perfectly and when they arrived to start photographing all the stress went away (I think they were more organized than I was!). He let me know what was realistic and was flexible when I asked to add a little time to the wedding day photos. Oh, where to begin.....I was planning my October wedding from VA and had to do all of my vendor search on this amazingly vast world wide web. Planning from a distance is tough enough but throw in the Chicago factor and all that the city has available and, well, it can get pretty complicated (as if the stress of planning isn't enough!!) There are so many photographers in the Chicago area to choose from and I was fortunate enough to stumble across Luis and Clarissa's work. Boy was I lucky! From the very first glance through their gallery, I was hooked. They have an incredible eye for detail and capture moments that bring you right back to the day. We chose not to have a video portion for our wedding day and I don't regret it one bit as Luis and Clarissa captured the energy, love and happiness through their pictures. From our first meeting to the delivery of the final wedding pictures, they were incredibly professional, prompt and very attentive. We opted for the engagement session prior to the wedding day and I'm so glad we did! Not only because now we have super cool pictures of us (friends have all said we look like we're in an anthropologie catalogue shoot) but because we were able to spend some time in front of the camera which was VERY helpful for both me and my husband. It can feel so silly to stare into each others eyes or kiss for a picture but you better get used to it! Working with them was fabulous ~ they share their love (husband/wife team) and enthusiasm so readily that you can't help but want to spend your own wedding day with them! They are by your side most of the day so just remember you need to really like your photographer!! WIth that said, they were so unobtrusive and caught amazing images seamlessly. Many of our guests remarked how incredible they were in how they moved about the day. My husband loved that there was no stage direction and constant critiquing of our posture/position. It was all very natural and relaxed...just what we wanted!!! And now, about the pictures....they are absolutely STUNNING. We have received so many comments from friends and family that they are blown away by how beautiful our pictures turned out. Wedding pictures (in general) are always memorable but the pictures they took are breathtaking. They are artistic, emotional and fun. My husband just keeps saying 'they're just so cool!' Another suggestion I have for couples is to do the First Look session with them prior to the wedding. While I love that we have such cool pictures of just the two of us, it was the time shared together prior to the ceremony that is my favorite part of our day. Walking up to my super handsome husband-to-be and tapping him on his shoulder was such an intimate and special moment for me. It's not a traditional approach but it was so worth "breaking the rules"! We'd been planning this day for so many months that I wanted to maximize our time together because it goes by so quickly! Bottom line, I Luv Photo rocks. I Luv Photo documented our August wedding better than we could have imagined! Right from the start, Luis and Clarissa were completely professional and immediately understood our desire for "real" pictures of our wedding, as opposed to anything staged or unnatural. They arrived on our wedding day having already completed a site inspection, and were full of ideas and plans. They were unobtrusive yet always on hand to capture every moment, and having just reviewed the final gallery of pictures, I can say that are blown away by their style. The pictures are unique and distinctly us. There isn't a single detail of the ceremony of reception that they missed! Their photo editing skills are top-notch - nothing looks over processed or phony. Just clean, natural and stylish. My only minor complaint is that it took 6 weeks to receive the final images. This is outlined in the contract, so it wasn't a surprise ... But when you're waiting on wedding photos, sooner is always better. Nevertheless, I am so very glad we used I Luv Photo. Their packages are extremely reasonably priced, and receiving rights to all the pictures is a HUGE bonus. read more
