O-MAH-GOSHH! I don't even know what to say. I absolutely 1000000000000% love my photographers. Belen, Lizz, Frankie, Nick. Amazing!! Belen and Lizz shot my wedding and I absolutely loved them and the pictures. They really got into the spirit of the wedding and were such a pleasure to work with. They get excited about the pictures they take which I think is so important. They really treat each wedding as having its own unique personality. They aren't in your face either. During the reception they just kept floating around snapping away and I actually got surprised to see all the different moments they got during my reception. It was great!! A month after my wedding, Belen shot the wedding of a friend of mine and I was the wedding coordinator. It was fun working with her from a different perspective and watching her capture all the moments that make each wedding unique. They are really easy to talk to and whenever you have questions they get back to you really quickly. I absolutely love Belen. We worked with her a lot. She shot our wedding, and our Chicago shoot, and our Trash the Dress shoot. She made me feel like a rockstar every step of the way. Frankie, wow. Attention to detail. At some point we were at Navy Pier and he was swatting away little bugs in the air and moving cigarette butts to get them out of the shot. I hired Gerber & Scarpelli for my June 2nd wedding in Chicago. I found them via the coordinator at Old St. Pat's church, since they only allow a handful of photographers into the church. At first, I was disappointment that I couldn't find just any photographer I wanted but it worked out for the best because I could not imagine having had a better photographer than Mike Scarpelli. After having engagement photos with another photographer there and not being completely satisfied, he happily took us on, listened to our ideas and delivered 110%. He was also able to control the group, which was really important to me (you know the boys can get rowdy). Mike is professional, artistic, and FUNNY! It was really a delight working with him. He was stuck with us for 12 hours that day and was always there. He and his assistant never missed a moment of the action. We received a slideshow in just 1 week and all of our 1200+ photos were ready and delivered to me after just 3 weeks! In fact, Im meeting with Belen tomorrow to design our wedding album. The photos turned out incredible. My family & friends keep saying our wedding should have been in a magazine, or a movie. We LOVE the photos. Cannot WAIT to see the album. My husband and I got married at Old St. Pat's church, and had to choose a photographer from their list of vendors. It seemed like we had a limited amount of photographers to choose from, but it was actually a blessing. We booked Belen back in 2019, and she has been with us through our ups and downs for the past three years. From our engagement shoot to our mini ceremony/reception (that was cancelled the day of) to our rescheduled ceremony followed by a reception at the Portillo's parking lot to our full reception aka "after party." Like many couples here on Yelp, my husband and I found Gerber + Scarpelli by way of Old St. Pat's Church. Photography was first on our vendor list after setting a date at OSP, especially since the list seemed like a limited one - I was a little unsure about having just a few photographers to choose from, but I need not have worried one bit; there was no need to look any further! Our first meeting was with Nick Gerber, who was our primary photographer. He is such a great photographer!! You can tell he really enjoys what he does, and he's damn good at it too--if you check out his IG @realnickgerber, you'll see what I mean. He was so fun to work with throughout the whole process...engagement photos, wedding day, all the correspondence in between. Frank teamed up with him on the wedding, and he was great and fun to be around as well. They had a wonderful way about them, and I think that sets a tone for getting really great shots. Speaking of the pictures...they are amazing! We did wait a few weeks longer than expected, but not entirely a surprise coming off peak wedding season. The photos were so worth the wait! There are some vendors you may actually miss after the big day just because you enjoy their company that much...Nick is definitely in that category. In 2003 my sister got married and her photographer was Mike Scarpelli. I was so impressed with his artistic pictures and his professionalism that I vowed to have him shoot my wedding one day. Fast-forward to 2009 and the only place I wanted to visit was the Gerber-Scarpelli studio. My Fiance (now Husband) loved Mike's lively personality and demeanor. Kurt shot our wedding last September. He was a pleasure to work with. He was super accommodating to our needs. We did not want a lot of "hoopla" but wanted great shots. He 'discreetly' captured our wedding day perfectly. He was professional throughout all our interactions with him. He made sure that we enjoyed our day while helping us get the perfect pictures needed to savor the memories (he was very helpful in kind of telling us what to do and how to pose as we are not exactly into being photographed - this put both my husband and I at ease). Furthermore he was willing to shoot our engagement photos after the wedding which we actually just did recently (close to a year later). All our pictures are amazing. Our wedding planner introduced us to Gerber+Scarpelli because we were looking for a photographer with an artistic and photo-journalistic style for our wedding. We worked with Nick Gerber and Belen Aquino, and not only were we happy with the photos we received, but we had a blast working with this team. Pros: First off, these two could not be any easier to work with. Their job is to chronicle your whole wedding day, so by nature they're stuck by your side constantly snapping pictures. Luckily, they are both so fun to be around it's not awkward at all. And when needed (like during the ceremony), they were able to disappear - yet still get great shots. We also worked with Nick during our rehearsal dinner, and we felt like we had known him for years - his pictures that night are some of our favorites. In terms of bang for your buck, we couldn't have been more pleased. Our package included 6 hours of photography with two photographers, as well as DVDs of the high-res images and a coffee table book. Not only did we get beautiful and artistic photos, but a ton of them to boot (near 1200!). Having seen other friends' wedding photos, I feel like we got a lot for what we paid. On top of being a photographer, Belen is an impressive graphic artist and creates stunning coffee table books, all part of our wedding package. Great deal! Cons: When we had our consultations, I was leaning heavily on the photo-journalistic side. It's clearly their forte, and it's what we preferred. That said, I wish we had a few more traditional portraits from the day. The candid photos are stunning, but sometimes parents just want a good ol' traditional portrait. In hindsight, I would have stopped the action for a minute and asked for a few of these. Bottom line: Fun to work with, great wedding packages, beautiful and artistic photography. We found Mike Scarpelli from our church's (Old St. Pats) list of vendors...and it was easy to see from reviews and website that Gerber & Scarpelli were the best!!!! We met Mike for our consultation and felt so easy around him from minute 1. We were pumped for engagement shoot which went extremely well. We've used the pics for our wedding website, and even some wedding DIY's. They came out GREAT! We had the talented Mike Scarpelli and fabulous Maggie for our June 30th wedding...Mike hung out with us girls & got some great shots and Maggie went and took pics of the guys that morning. Both my hubby and I had great things to say...they used fun props around our different condo/hotel environments to take some great photos that we are just dying to see! After the ceremony, the weather of course was sunny and hot..and with our trolley having only 2 hours to take us around, Mike and Maggie worked extremely hard at making it to our fave spots and then using our hotel lobby for some even more fabulous wedding photos. Belen did an AMAZING job with our engagement shoot and wedding photos. She has such a great talent behind the camera and, as an added bonus, is very skilled at managing people! She kept us on schedule on our wedding day, managed 4 extended families for family pictures, kept a good record of which photos we wanted, and had such great suggestions from past experience for setting up our venue. She was also so helpful in figuring out where to take pictures as she knows the city inside and out! I feel so awkward in front of a camera and just didn't know how they'd come out but she did such a good job of directing us and posing us that we got plenty of great pictures to choose from. Our top priority for our June 22, 2013, wedding was finding a fantastic photographer. We picked our venue, the historical Chicago Cultural Center, and immediately began our search for the perfect photographer to capture that romantic, "Old Chicago" feel for us on wedding day. After searching high and low and not feeling an immediate click with other vendors we reached out to, I saw Maggie Thalheimer's work at a friend of a friend's wedding on Facebook. I seriously gasped when I saw what she had done. So classic, so elegant. I remember immediately calling and typing a frantic email to find out if she was available on our date - as luck would have it, she was! We cannot say enough fantastic things about Maggie. She totally got what we were looking for and ran with it. Our engagement pictures in Lincoln Park alone had our friends asking for her number for their upcoming weddings. We just got our wedding pictures back and they were better than I ever could have hoped for. Also, a huge shout out to Tim Jaroz - the guys had so much fun with him, and he was just as sweet as Maggie. Truly phenomenal job. Upbeat, energetic, enthusiastic - yet professional. Both Maggie and Tim kept us all moving and helped us diffuse a few tense situations that popped up throughout the day. It was a very long day - starting at 11 a.m. and going til midnight, and they were troopers through it all. We kept wanting to hug them all day. This review is so overdue. My husband and I were married at Old St Pat's. They have a VERY limited list of photographers they will allow in the church during the ceremony. This actually worked in my favor since it led me to Gerber and Scarpelli! I met with Nick and almost immediately signed. The contract is very straightforward and no gimmicks. I've heard nightmares from other brides about only getting a certain number of photos or having albums held hostage when working with other companies. My husband absolutely hates to get his pictures taken and was not looking forward to engagement photos....in December.....outdoors......on a 20 degree day. Nick was so wonderful, funny and made us both laugh the whole time. I was shocked that my husband was in a good mood after the photos! We had the same great experience on our wedding day.. Nick was the main photographer and Belen was our second. We were so happy with how the photos turned out! I also received them sooner than the quoted four week turnaround. It took me a looooong time to get it together and order my album but I'm equally happy with the album as I am my photos. We also received all our photos on a memory stick which is so convenient. Big thank you to Gerber and Scarpelli and especially Nick and Belen for providing us with such beautiful photos! While all of the Gerber + Scarpelli photographers are excellent, we were paired with Nick Gerber who was AMAZING! From the moment we met him at our engagement shoot, he made us feel completely happy, confident, and at ease. He is the most personable human ever (like a long-lost best friend), knew all the best Chicago locations, and made us look really darn good. On the wedding day, Nick once again fit right in with everyone. He made the bridal party and guests feel completely comfortable, and added a nice sense of humor and calm to what otherwise could have been a stressful day. Also, he expertly navigated some tricky dynamics during the family photographs. Kurt Gerber was our second photographer for the ceremony and cocktail hour, and was equally wonderful and professional. As a bride-to-be in a large city, there are so many photographers to choose from that the selection process can almost be overwhelming. After meeting with a few photographers and reviewing a number of albums, we decided to go with Kurt at Gerber + Scarpelli. We recently had our engagement session, and not only did the pictures turn out beautifully, but the engagement session itself was a lot of fun! My fiancé and I are not used to getting our picture taken, and Kurt made us feel relaxed throughout the entire photoshoot, which was also evident in the photos. The main differentiation that led us to choose Kurt was that his albums had a great balance of close, personal shots as well as some more epic shots with cool backgrounds, and our engagement session photos turned out to be a great mix of that as well! We approved our wedding photo album in December 2018, but still have not received the photo album or even a response to multiple emails! We have contacted our photographer and the company multiple times, not a single response in almost a year! The pictures turned out great, however not sure that it's worth the price. read more

First, I want to say that both photographers with us were friendly, kind, and warm. We felt they were a part of our day and wanted us to feel comfortable, and they were successful in doing that. That being said, I'm disappointed in our photos. We were told it would take roughly 4 weeks to receive our photos because they were being edited and retouched. We received photos that appeared to be neither edited or retouched, but merely uploaded. A couple photos on our shot list were missing, people were in the middle of blinking, and some of the photos would have looked better if we were instructed to shift minor things such as "drop your chin down", etc. My expectation of having professional photographers was that they would look at the frames of important shots and have the subjects take another if it didn't turn out, or tell everyone in the photo to open their eyes, etc. Also, our church photos were a huge disappointment. I wish they would've recommended that we have them in the front pew so that their shots wouldn't be blocked by other people. These are things we didn't even think about because we have never been married before or gone through a similar process. I would've rather had them sit in the front pew to get good photos than be in the back. Most of our church photos (except the shot taken from the second floor) look like amateur shots with people's shoulders and backs in the shots, etc. I've expressed some of these concerns, and have been told to go through the photos one by one and make note of the retouches I'd like -- I'm disappointed as I think these changes should have been made before sending us the photos. Now, we have to make the time to request edits and we don't even know if they'll be possible. Again, nice, kind photographers. Just disappointed in the product and experience post wedding, and frustrated that we have to request the retouching on specific photos. I thought that was why we hired professional photographers. read more

This yelp review is very overdue, but the timing delay should be in no way a reflection of how we feel about this great team. Orange2Photography/Gerber and Scarpelli were our wonderful wedding photographers. We got married July 7th at Old St. Pat's and the Chicago Cultural Center. We initially found out about Orange because they were on the very limited Old St. Pat's approved photography list. At first I was frustrated by the limited choice, but when I started exploring their website it was such an easy answer for me. Their photos really speak for themselves, but I will speak to the experience. They were so easy to work with, happy, focused, professional and considerate. Belen was our main photographer and was so easy going and fun to work with. We originally got to know her in our engagement session--which at first we REALLY didn't want to do (being camera shy/awkward) but Belen gently convinced us to give it a shot. Her point being, the e session is the time to get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day. Fantastic advice. The photos really worked well and she was so flexible with what we wanted. We learned what the experience working with a photographer would be like and understood how we could direct, change and adapt in a photo session. It didn't hurt that Belen's and my aesthetics lined up perfectly. Belen came to our rehearsal dinner and easily snapped the most special moments. If anyone is considering having a photographer at your rehearsal dinner I will tell you it was one of the best decisions we made. The day of the wedding was great and Belen and Maggie worked so well with our videography team. They were funny, quick thinking and creative on the spot. They kept very close to my (very type A) required photo list and captured all the moments we needed. I actually can't believe how successful they were at being in the exact right place at the right time. We had so much fun taking pictures and they managed to get such great shots in a limited amount of "dedicated photography time". I will also never forget how Belen literally talked us through every single step needed to cut a wedding cake. We would have been very lost without her! After the wedding and after we and come back down to reality, a little anxiety about the photos squeaked its way in---"what if there isn't a picture with my mom?" "what if the photos look cheesy" and, the worst fear of all, "what if we look awkward in every shot!?!??!" Well all the fears were totally unfounded because Belen and Maggie found the photogenic/chill/happy sides of all of us and our friends and family. They managed to only capture people in the best possible light. The church was perfectly featured, the Chicago Cultural Center never looked better and all our family and friends on the dance floor looked fantastic, happy and authentic. These guys are AMAZING! WOW! Very very professional. We loved our engagement photos. We were able to do them outside in the snow and we got some amazing winter shots. Our wedding photos topped the fabulous engagement photos. The turnaround time was quick...about 1 month. Also we used a "thank you" photo and they were able to send us that immediately after the wedding. Kurt and Tim did our big day and we are just so happy with how everything turned out. Professional. Kind. Helpful. Talented. You will not find better photographers for your event. Stop looking; go with Gerber+Scarpelli. Nick did our engagement photos and wedding. Tim was also at our wedding. They were not only excellent at doing their jobs, they did them with enthusiasm and genuine joy. They get creative with every location and always find the perfect shot. It's incredible just to watch them work. Here are some specific examples of how these guys are awesome: - Nick wears a classy black suit to your wedding, complete with camera cufflinks. Baller. - Tim will straight-up (politely) tell you if you look wrong while trying to pose, then give you a better suggestion. He probably saved me a few photos of me looking like an idiot. - I wanted a photo of my Mom's family at the rehearsal. I didn't know how to get them together. Nick said, "No problem, I'll handle it." Then he coordinated with the DJ to make an announcement and we had everybody ready to go in 5 minutes. - Some makeup got on my tux while giving a friend a hug. Nick noticed immediately and brushed it off before it ruined any photos. - Nick held the bride's purse with his camera gear during the ceremony so she didn't have to worry about where it was when transitioning to the photo bus. - Every location was shot with efficiency, and when the bus driver didn't know how to get there quickly, Nick and Tim were directing them. We didn't have to worry about a thing. - Nick remembered a specific pose we did for the engagement photos we took 10 months earlier! We recreated it for a wedding shot. My husband and I got married at Old St. Patrick's Church in Chicago which in addition to having restrictions on where INSIDE the church photographers could shoot, also restricted WHO could and could not shoot our wedding. I was very upset about this (it's sort of a racket), but am relieved to report that Gerber + Scarpelli not only met, but exceeded our expectations. Kurt and Ken were a ton of fun to work with and all of the pictures turned out beautifully. We are SO grateful to have had them capture our wedding. I am SO happy about our decision to hire Orange 2 Photography for our wedding (a part of Gerber & Scarpelli). My husband and I had met with a couple other photographers who were outrageously expensive, and we were thrilled to find Belen! The day of the wedding was very foggy and she was great at picking the perfect places to take pictures. We got all of our wedding pictures quickly and they were AMAZING. We recently worked with Nick and his team at our winter wedding at Salvage One and I'd highly recommend them to anyone! Nick was super easy to work with and very calm. My bridal party loved him because he was sure to keep the mood chill and keep us laughing while we posed away. He was early to arrive on the day of, he was communicative at the reception and at the same time so out of the way I didn't even really notice our pictures being taken. We met with Nick a few weeks before the wedding and talked about what we liked and didn't like and he had a lot of examples of locations to offer and worked with us on the schedule. Now, a few weeks later we've received our pictures and couldn't be happier with the results. What else could you wish for?
