The two ladies who were working there were both very nice, friendly and helpful! The food quality and taste was so good that I didn't even care about the great customer service for the first time in my life! Everything we ordered was delicious and an extra touch! Legacy Post from 2019 I was a frequent diner at I Love Sushi until ~2020. It was a go-to spot for lunches. Their lunch sets were really worth it given the quality and portion size. Although I haven't been there recently, I heard they are more or less the same as before. I ordered pick up thru the Uber Eats app. The order ready in under 10 mins which was great as I'm staying at a hotel a cpl blocks away. I got the tempura bento box which comes with assorted tempura, 2 pieces California roll, salad, miso soup, rice and I chose sashimi for my option. The portions are huge and fresh and delicious. My only comment would be that when ordering takeout, some chopsticks or cutlery would have been great but I appreciate that all the packaging is compostable... so maybe that is there thing to avoid excess waste? I peeked inside the restaurant when I picked up the order and it looked cozy and cute inside! I will definitely visit this place again next time I'm downtown Edmonton. read more

We ordered a plethra of sushi to celebrate my kiddos new house. Here's the thing my husband works downtown so this worked well. It is a pain to find parking and pick up unless you are already downtown. We live in the north end of the city so we picked this based on the fact that there wasn't anywhere that was close by. The sushi is good and fresh. Exceptional? No. Price point was really good. We ordered 9 different maki rolls and all of them were good. Although I think our favourites were the volcano rolls, and the sakura rolls. Mexican rolls had a good spice as well. It is not a place to sit down in and relax. It is small and to be honest, not inviting. This is a great place to take a to go meal for home or a park. They also have Bento boxes and undon if you happen to not like sushi. read more

I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt. Also the fact that I am spoiled by Vancouver sushi . But I really didn't see what the hype is all about. I ordered the deluxe bento box for $18 and honestly, I expected more. Firstly chicken teriyaki shouldn't be breaded with teriyaki sauce on it. The salad that came with it was watery and it just looked like it was taken out of a bag and chucked in my bento box. The sushi and sashimi that came with this was only three pieces of sushi and 4 pieces of sashimi. Yes I understand that miso soup and rice came with it, but how do you figure this is worth $18? Service was okay has I think it is a family-run business and two people looking after the eight tables. They charge $1 for green tea which baffles me. I had walked by this restaurant many times but had never been inside. I decided to try it for lunch and good thing we went before noon since it was smaller inside that I thought. It fits about 25 people but they are quite busy with their take out service. The menu has a variety of sushi but I decided on the chicken bento box with tempura. It was great that it came with miso soup but it was a bit too salty. The chicken was crispy and good but they put too much sauce on for my liking. I liked the salad and dressing. It also came with 2 large shrimp maki rolls, 6 large pieces of 2 shrimp tempura and 4 vegetable, and a bowl of rice. The rice bowl wasn't too full but it wasn't needed as I was pretty full from the other food. The service is quick and friendly but when I went to pay, there was a long wait of pick up for take out. There isn't much moving room either but the little restaurant is cute with its decor of hanging lights and signs. Next time I may get take out to prevent a wait at the door for a table or get there early to beat the lunch time rush. Since it is small, I didn't want to sit and visit too long after eating and occupy a table. I'm sure I will be back. read more

I am eating this for the first time as I type out this review. I was just walking by and last minute decided to check it out. I've known about it before but seeing as Japonais bistro jacked up the price of all of their menu items recently (by quite a bit) and took away my two favourite items I decided it was time to try something new. The prices are very affordable for sushi. I ordered the half assorted tempura for $6.75. This came with about 9 pieces and was pretty big! Normally this dish would cost double at other establishments. I also got the red spicy tuna tempura roll which was $11 for 8 chunky pieces. There was couple beside me and the dishes they ordered looked pretty tasty as well. For the price, the food does taste pretty good. It's not the most amazing sushi I've ever eaten nor does it look as fresh as some other places I've gone to however, it does the job and I'd definitely come back again. The place is pretty small and was very quiet when I arrived. Aside from myself, another couple, and a guy that came for pick up that was pretty much it. The staff were all really sweet and kind. Who knew this place would get so busy at lunch! Make sure you make a reso! We ordered the salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, spicy dynamite rolls and spicy tuna rolls. The pieces of sashimi were pretty big but the fish tasted fresh; no fishy flavors here. I was a little disappointed with the tuna rolls though, they were a lot smaller than what I'm used to but still really good. Can't wait to be back! Do you love sushi? I know I love sushi. It's very hard to find a good sushi place that is not located directly on the coast. Bit every once in a while I get the craving for some raw fish and need to get some sushi. This is one of those nice small family run businesses. They only have capacity for 25 people. It is always busy here. If you don't how up at 11:30 for lunch you are going to have to wait in line a bit. The decor is very nice and authentic. Not the prettiest however it feels like a nice family business. The food is very good and fresh. I had the chicken and sushi bento box and got a very nice portion. I was curious to try I Love Sushi, since a Vancouver friend of mine regularly visits and loves this place. Our group of 6 people had booked a reservation for a 12:30 lunch. When we showed up at 12:20, there was no sign of there being any upcoming free tables in the tiny restaurant. However, after a 20 minute wait in the lobby, we were seated. Better late than never! I ordered a bento box with chicken teriyaki, California rolls and assorted sushi. I didn't know what to expect, since the box cost a reasonable $12. Happily, both the rolls and the sushi were delicious. The tuna and salmon were buttery and beautifully textured. The chicken teriyaki was out of this world. The skin was crunchy and crispy, but the meat was tender and juicy inside, and it had the perfect amount of sauce drizzled on top. I loved it. Also delicious were the salad and miso soup that came with the bento box. The service was mediocre. Our food came out quickly and efficiently, but there was no follow-up at the table, so there were no pop refills or extra hot water for our tea. Even factoring in the average service, I think I will weave I Love Sushi into my regular lunch rotation. There have been multiple times where I've driven down Jasper Avenue and spotted this little family-run restaurant. The sign is just too cute (for reference, the 'o' in love is a heart instead), and I've been told it's a go-to place for many people downtown given it's convenient location and affordability. To start off any Japanese meal I usually go with Beef Tataki (small, $9.95) as an appetizer. The beef slices were sliced thinly and served with onions, seaweed and radish for garnish. Unfortunately the ponzu sauce was too sweet for my liking, and I felt that the tataki was pretty underwhelming, considering the price for the amount of food on the plate. My boyfriend chose to try the Stir Fried Teriyaki Chicken with Vegetables ($12.75), one of their set dinner options. All of the set dinner dishes come with a serving of miso soup, house salad, and rice, so the whole meal is a pretty good deal. The chicken was well cooked and moist, and with all the components considered together, the portion was very filling. I was in the mood for some warm soup that evening, and chose to try out the Tempura Udon ($9.25). The noodle soup came steaming to the table and the tempura was fried to a beautiful golden yellow. The tempura wasn't overly oily and the sauce was savoury and slightly sweet as expected. Unfortunately the udon was a different story. I found the broth to be quite bland and lacking in flavour, as it didn't have the umami I expect from a dashi stock. The udon noodles were also overcooked and much softer than desired. Friends we dined with that night ordered some fresh fish options like the Chirashi Don ($14, above), in which the fish was fairly fresh and was a good price for the portion size. Although I Love Sushi has a great downtown location and very affordable prices for Japanese cuisine, it really isn't a restaurant that I would look forward to returning to. There were some hits and misses that evening, so this restaurant may be good if you're in the area and in need of a quick fix, but don't expect to have your minds blown by high quality fish. read more

Because I stay at the hotel across the street, I've eaten here about two dozen times over the years. The ownership of this place changed about 2 years ago but the food quality has remained high and the prices have remained low. I ordered take-out today- a California roll and a salmon roll- both very nice for $9.26 including taxes. The dining area is small and yet in both instances while not busy, only one individual seemed responsible for all front-of-house duties and was neither warm, welcoming or gracious. Over the course of a 90 minute meal, the server only came to the table three times. Portion sizes are adequate and value/money is on parr. I have to admit that the name of this small Japanese restaurant put me off. I Love Sushi? That sounds just too quaint. However, a co-worker has consistently raved to me about how wonderful it is. As a result, when a friend reminded me that I promised to treat him to a sushi dinner, I chose I Love Sushi. I'm glad I did. The place is quaint (just like the name), full of cute decorations. The menu is huge, with a wider variety of sushi than I have seen in similar restaurants. I opted for one of their avocado creations, that also included yam. My friend also had an original creation of raw tuna, salmon, and avocado wrapped in seaweed and lightly deep fried. Like I said, I have never seen some of these creations anywhere else. We also opted for bento boxes, which come with a choice of three mains in addition to rice and salad, and are very reasonably priced. The portions of my beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, and fried salmon teriyaki (can you sense a theme here?) were huge. I mean, I think I had the equivalent of two chicken breasts, and the pieces of salmon were enough to be a meal on their own. My friend's box of beef teriyaki, tofu cubes, and beef sukiyaki also seemed plentiful, although I could sense he had food envy over my chicken and salmon. Service was great, the food came quickly, and prices were reasonable. The place is a little small, which means moving about can get a little tricky, but if you love sushi, this place is definitely worth a visit. read more

While this isn't a particularly fancy Japanese restaurant, it does what it does do well: serves a quick and delicious bento box lunch for example, and given that I was in and out during my work lunch break (including my walk to and from the establishment), I was pretty pleased overall. I even liked the breaded chicken teriyaki -- which is kind of rare in a Japanese restaurant these days! I rather liked the green tea served with my meal (and the teapot and cups too!) and found the food to be quite filling and good for what I was looking for in a lunchtime meal. I recommend reserving in advance as this place gets BUSY for lunch! It's not terribly large, and has more traditional Japanese decor when it comes to how the place is appointed. My first impression of this place had been of disappointment but I think I was trying to compare it to the slower fancier restaurants rather than for what it is: a good middle of the road option marrying quality with value. What was a bit weird was I think I heard the lady ordering two pieces of something on the phone? I thought it may have been to another sushi restaurant? As the name suggests, the focus is on sushi, but there are a few non-sushi options for those who aren't fans of seafood. I really enjoy this restaurant. Not only is the quality of the food very high -- it's one of the best sushi places in Edmonton -- the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is always peaceful and relaxing. Even during the lunch rush, a trip to I Love Sushi feels like a nice escape from the hectic workday. That said, because it is so small, it's best to arrive early if you want to get a table. I tend to go late -- around 1:30pm -- to avoid the lunch rush, but not everyone has the flexibility to move their lunch schedule around. The prices are good and the food is great (not as good as in Vancouver but, hey, we're on the prairies). If you're looking for good sushi downtown, I highly recommend I Love Sushi. read more

This is a typical little hole-in-the-wall place, run by a local family. It gets pretty busy during lunch, when hordes of business people flood in during their short break. The rest of the day, it is generally quiet, and every time I've gone, we've pretty much had the place to ourselves. That's a good thing, because there are only about ten tables in the whole place. Despite the name, I Love Sushi has far more on the menu that just sushi. Don't get me wrong, sushi is great, but there is far more to Japanese cuisine than just sushi. The sushi here is average, but what I come back for over and over is the Oyako-don and Tonkatsu. Both are great dishes that will fill you up on a cold winter's day or fuel you up for a night on the town. Compared to other places nearby (Mikado & Kyoto), the prices are dirt cheap too. If you're looking to try other aspects of Japanese cuisine, drop in and sample a few different things - they won't cost as much as they do at other places in town, and taste just as good (if not better). read more

Took a coworker to I Love Sushi earlier this week for lunch. It was my first time dinning in. I have ordered takeout a couple of times previously. With takeout I have found you are often waiting for your food to be ready, even if you phone 15-20 minutes in advice, but I was hoping the dine-in service would be better as the food food and value is great. We arrived early to beat the lunch hour rush, about 11:45. We were promptly greeted and seated with a smile. I ordered a Bento box for $11 which included miso soup. My coworker ordered 6-7 pieces of sushi, a maki role and miso soup for about $20. The food arrived in 10-15 minutes and tasted great! My coworker was particularly impressed as he loves sushi and orders it ever week or two. I Love Sushi gets 5 stars for food and value. Unfortunately, it then became time to pay the bill. We waited 5-10 minutes to get the bill, but the waitress forgot to bring it. We then proceeded to the cash register to pay. Due to the number of people leaving, takeout orders, staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and it took another 10-15 minutes before we paid. I understand that they are busy, but I have been to tonnes of restaurants when they are busy, and it typically doesn't take 20 minutes to clear the tab. Overall, I recommend I Love Sushi to anyone who likes Japanese food. However, don't go their if you are in a hurry or only have 40-50 minutes for lunch. If your short on time, try Sushi Ya in Edmonton Centre. There is less seating but they have similar quality of food and value. read more

I could've sworn that I've written reviews about I Love Sushi before but I guess not. I've dined-in a few times but more often I call ahead of time and place an order for pick-up - usually it's ready in 10-15 minutes, depending on how big my order is. If you're planning on eating there during a weekday noon hour, I strongly recommend making reservations. It really packs in. I really like their bento boxes. For $10.50, you get a basic salad, two pieces of maki (usually shrimp tempura, with avocado and tobiko - I love that they don't give you a crappy roll like cucumber), a huge mound of rice, your choice of chicken (lots of lightly breaded boneless dark meat with teriyaki sauce, yum) or beef (stir-fried with ginger and bean sprouts, also yum), and then either sushi, tempura, or sashimi. I always get it with sashimi, and you get 4 nice-sized pieces, 2 of salmon and 2 of tuna, always fresh and the right texture. I think that if you dine-in, they give you a miso soup, but not with takeout (not sure why, though maybe I just got a miso soup by accident last time). I've also had their chirashi bowl, which is a huge bowl of assorted sashimi on rice. Three pieces each of salmon and tuna, and then a piece of red snapper (I think), surf clam, octopus, sweet egg omelette, a mound of tobiko, some cucumber, and a delicious marinated shiitake mushroom (I'm looking at a picture I took of it... mmm). Not bad for $12.25 - everything was fresh as expected. Their spicy tuna and chop chop maki were disappointing - really tiny rolls - I prefer the medium- (normal-) sized ones where you can see small chunks of the seafood in the middle, instead of it looking like a paste. Maybe the temaki is better but I find them a little pricey at $3.99 each. A few take-out visits ago, I was in the area near the end of my lunch hour and decided to pop in to see if they'd be able to make me a rainbow roll (to go) really quickly. I asked if they'd be able to do it within 10 minutes and they said no problem (the restaurant was sort of full but I think it was mostly diners who were finishing up). They handed me the roll in about 3 minutes! I was so impressed. Unfortunately the roll itself was mediocre. The salmon and avocado seemed like it had been sitting out for a little bit as the salmon wasn't as fresh as all the other times, and the avocado seemed a little dried out. Okay, here's my story, I was craving for japanese udon. I was extremely hungry since I missed lunch that day and the only thing I ate was a bowl of special K cereal. It was 4pm and I was going mad, I looked up on yelp for decent japanese restaurant then I saw this place called "i love sushi" with fancy four star rating. My hopes were high to taste a decent meal and order a tonkatsu udon. However, when I saw my dish laid on the table I was instantly disappointed. I will be 100 per cent honest; the batter of tonkatsu was horrible, it was flat ! not flaky(nothing like the famous japanese panko style), dark from frying them in an overused oil, the stalk used to make the soup tasted like it was made with powdered stalks (I know this because I am asian and I've tasted asian style stalks made by my mom hundreds of times), the noodles were over cooked. Although as I was eating I promised to myself I will never come to this place again, I was terribly hungry I galloped the whole dish. Also when I went to the counter to pay I was glad I didn't order a bento or any sort that contains nigiri sushi because 1) Just by the glimpse I could tell the fish weren't fresh at all 2) the chef's hair wasn't even tightly tied back 3) she took forever forming the sushi in her warm hand, almost cooking the fish. I Love Sushi is just like the name sounds. Cute. Fun. Honest. The restaurant is tiny with just a few tables - the perfect place for a lunch on your own or a dinner with a few friends. For the ultimate experience, try to go outside of the downtown lunch rush or during dinner time when the downtown core has quieted down. The menu is considerable and offers everything from hot food (appetizers, tempura, soups, teriyaki chicken, etc) to sushi (maki, sashimi, cones, etc). The pricing is great for quality sushi. I love that they don't try to impress anyone with their decor, or their presentation - they let the food speak for itself. Fresh ingredients, great customer service and no frills - in a good way. Great little restaurant just off Jasper Avenue to enjoy sushi, tempura,udon and miso soups. There are only five or so tables at this restaurant, and since the place is often busy, getting the table may the problem. Whenever I cannot be accomodated right away, I just order take out. The decor of this restaurant is simple, the owners are friendly, and the food is hot and fresh. I find that sushi (especially scallop, surf clam and tuna) and assorted tempura are amazingly good. I am a self proclaimed sushi expert, and I am happy to say that I Love Sushi's cooks use the freshest seafood and fish there is. The tempura batter is crispy and never greasy or mushy. The hot steamy bowl of miso soup is an ultimate comfort food. If you are not big on sushi, this place serves chicken, beef and salmon teriyaki and bento boxes. The food and service here is OK. The only reason I come here is because it's close by work or when I'm desperate for sushi at lunch. I would not recommend going out of your way to come here. The food is usually subpar and the lady will give you your bill and kick you out before you even put down your chopstick after your last bite. I know the place is small and busy but she could at least ask if I want anything else. I mean I'm in a hurry to get back to work too and I think most ppl who come here feel the same way and have no desire to linger. I Love Sushi - Japanese Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

Maybe it was the grey day - and the hot miso soup, but this tiny sushi shop, north of Jasper, won a small piece of my heart today. It's cozy, eclectic - soft white light strands, fake flowers, wicker chairs, assorted pottery for dish wear, Hello Kitty?! and piano music lulling me through my menu read just after lunch hour. I order the miso, a green onion cake, tea and a plate of Dynamite Maki. The food comes almost instantly, and as I shift my laptop and books to make room for my meal, one of the Moo-Moo kimono-wearing servers comes and fusses over my table, to help me put it in order. The food is fresh and good - not the best sushi I've ever had, but better than Wok Box down the street and the place has infinitely more character. Character's huge in my books - and this is a place for quick, stress-busting work lunches, lazy snowstorm afternoons and after-five sake crawls. Hmmm.... sake crawls. read more
