I had very high expectations, and Secret de Paris surpassed them by a large margin. Stop looking and book your stay here immediately.
After doing some research, I selected this hotel for a week-long surprise trip to Paris, during which I would propose to my girlfriend. Before we even arrived, I occasionally had questions, and I emailed the hotel about these - in every case they promptly responded with helpful suggestions, accurate information, and options I had not even thought of.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by two pleasant staff members, who took our luggage and offered us a drink. After relaxing in the bar area for a bit, we went up to our room. I had selected the Eiffel Tower themed room, and we were immediately impressed. The room was of course immaculate, and it was very well furnished and extremely modern. The room had several large windows which offered a great view of the quiet streets below. The bed was larger than I expected, given the traditionally small hotel rooms that one generally encounters in Paris. The shower was very well designed, with an overhead waterfall-style head as well as a separate attachment and several wall-mounted nozzles which you can toggle between. It has been a few weeks since our trip and I still miss that shower!
Another great feature of the room was the lighting; there are several different stages of lighting that you can switch between, varying from full normal white light to a dimmer orange glow, and even bluish-purple mood lighting. This can be controlled via panels throughout the room, including one placed handily next to the night stand, allowing you to change or shut off all of the room lights from bed.
The room had multiple well-positioned outlets - you will never have trouble finding a place to plug in your phone or laptop - and the front desk staff had several power adapters for guests who forget to bring one. They also provide free (and fast) wireless internet access.
Throughout our stay, we appreciated the location of the hotel greatly. It is situated between the liege and Place de Clichy metro stations, on a quiet street. On many occasions we simply walked from the hotel toward the Seine river, wandering through neighborhoods and exploring along the way. Do yourself a favor and spend a great deal of time walking around, rather than always taking the metro or cabs from one way point to another on your adventures. We had some of the best times just wandering around and stumbling upon unexpected treasures. But I digress.
The staff at the hotel were incredibly polite, knowledgeable, and helpful, and went out of their way to be of assistance. To merely say they went the extra mile would be a vast understatement and a gross disservice. On countless occasions they helped me plan routes through the city, made reservations on my behalf at restaurants, and provided me with items I had neglected to bring.
The event which stands out most in my mind however, occurred the day I proposed to my girlfriend. The staff knew my plans, since I had conspired with them to determine the best way to reach the Pont des Arts at my desired time. Later that evening when my fiancee and I returned to the hotel, we discovered that they had covered the bed, sink, and bureau in delicate rose petals, and left an expensive bottle of champagne in an ice bucket for us. These are the kind of things that I remember most about our stay at Secret de Paris - the constant, tireless (and successful) efforts to amaze and delight us. read more
