I'll preface this by saying that I came to this hotel with a bad taste in my mouth because of what happened leading up to my arrival.
I had booked a room here via booking.com which is a website I use frequently. When I use booking.com, I ALWAYS select a fully refundable room just in case plans fall through - booking this room was no different. Lo and behold, after some weird glitch in the system, I got a confirmation email indicating that my booking was non-refundable. In less than 24 hours, I was in touch with Olga from the hotel explaining the situation. I was faced with a very dry and non-friendly response saying that it was too bad and that I had booked a non-refundable room. After some back and forth, she simply said that all she could do was 'allow' me to change my dates but that she wouldn't refund my money. After a call to my bank to file a complaint, and reaching out to booking.com who couldn't verify the glitch, Olga was reached out to by the booking.com customer service group to see what could be done. Her tone changed but she said that she didn't have the ability to refund me because she would lose money and again, it was too bad for me.
Now look, we're not talking big money here, but still, getting charged for 4 nights when I wasn't yet sure that I was even going to be in Nice, and having to deal with this type of attitude really pissed me off. On top of it all, we were going to be in Nice for my birthday and so I was in a generally upset frame of mind coming to this hotel because I had to essentially stay in a hotel that I no longer wanted to stay in but was basically forced into (unless I opted to throw my money in the garbage).
Now, fast forward several months later, we arrived and easily found the hotel. We came in and met with Olga (who probably didn't remember any of the interaction). She was pleasant enough - not too friendly but not unfriendly either. She let us choose between a few rooms, and then we quickly settled into our small room overlooking the busy street. The hotel is nothing to write home about - simple, clean, and to the point. Zero facilities, and no exciting features but it gave you a clean space to sleep in. The one really huge plus that I will note is the location - it was perfect and close to everything.
A couple annoyances: The key to the safety deposit box in your room is a bulky silver key that you need to carry everywhere with you - a little inconvenient given that we are in 2017 but again, nothing major. The other thing that I found a bit weird is that you had to leave your room key (again, a key and not a card) with the reception every time you left the hotel. Not sure if this was some kind of security measure or if this is their way to make sure that you don't lose the key but it was a bit strange to me.
Anyways, all in all, I'm very MEH about this whole experience. Everyone else we met at the front desk during our time was perfectly nice (although not so knowledgable. The one day we asked for the best way to go to Eze and Monaco, we spent over 15 minutes with the staff as they printed maps and schedules right off of Google which is something we had already looked into...so we found the fact that they were not ready with quick answers to simple questions a little unprofessional).
Would I come back to Nice? ABSOLUTELY. Back to this hotel? No I wouldn't simply because there are tons of other great hotels around the same price range that are so much better rated and in equally if not better locations. If you want cheap and no frills, this is for you but beware of the lack of flexibility that you may get from the owners if something goes wrong! read more
