Whether it's stopping after the Great Train Race as a child or before a photoshoot my senior year of high school. I was visiting Frericksburg and was so happy to be able to go to Hyperion. I loved everything about this coffee spot. It is a big coffee shop with plenty of seating directly inside and in a separate room right next to the front door. The staff was friendly and delightful. I ordered a Vanilla Latte and paired it with a Cinnamon Coffee Cake. I'm so happy they offered to heat it up because it melted in my mouth. My only regret is I didn't get a chance to go back to order more. I recommend Hyperion if you want to go somewhere with friends or to kick back with a good read. read more

Hyperion Espresso is my top pick for a cafe in Old Town Fredericksburg. For the past 2 years I've been frequenting this coffee shop but I will say that for the past few months the taste of their lattes has been quite inconsistent. My usual orders are an iced vanilla latte, iced white mocha, or the monkeylicious (highly! recommend). Some days the lattes taste quite sweet and other days you can't really taste the vanilla / white mocha flavor. On the days where I order a latte and it doesn't taste like it usually does, I am left feeling pretty disappointed, especially since I come here so much. I would probably rate Hyperion a 3/5 starts but the monkeylicious is so good it earned its own star! read more

Got a very yummy gingerbread dirty chai here today! They are very open to modifications, from quality of "sweetness" to milk options. They use a different chai concentrate (they do not make their own in house) but it's not teavana and it's actually very goood! Orders were decently quick and while there was a constant line the line moved quickly. In the grand scheme of coffee shops, this one didn't really impress. However, having been around the area, there's not that many to compare it to so I can see why it stands out in this immediate 100 mile radius. My mocha was okay. They do make the chocolate in house so we're told and it doesn't overpower the coffee. I was on the lookout for a matcha, but it seemed like they didn't have any. Wow. My companion and I visited Hyperion for the first time on a recent Saturday morning during the peak morning rush. We had a significant feeling of dtead since the line reachef the door (more on that later). The shop is a charming establishment in the heart of Fredericksburg's historic district. I ordered a drip coffee and butter croissant; she had an apple cinnamon muffin and a mocha latte. All were excellent, which brings me to... ...the service. In a word: phenomenal. Stunning, jaw-dropping, and unworldly would also fit. Three folks working in a pretty small space handled orders with an efficiency that would make FedEx proud. Our initial dread over a long line quickly became stunned shock at how quickly the line moved. Frankly, we've grown begrudgingly accustomed to independent coffee shops whose staff works at a far more leisurely pace. Best of all , the staff accomplished this feat with noticeably pleasant attitudes. Service was fast but not rushed, and the staff took the time to be both fast and friendly. First of all this Hyperion Espresso is located in a historic area (Civil War era); so don't worry if you can't find parking in front of the shop. Park a few blocks away or even down the street near the Rappahannock River and walk to the shop. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for historic markers and the architecture and details of the older buildings. I bet you'll even find a couple of shops you'll want to browse through or a restaurant or two that you will want to check out on the way back to your car. Hyperion is located on the corner of William Street and Princess Anne Street in a building similar to flatiron buildings. I am a sucker for these sort of buildings so I couldn't wait to see the inside. Other than the coffee machines you are not going to find much modernization in this shop; so if you favor minimalist sleek style coffee shops than this place is not for you. Hyperion is located in an older building that I guarantee has some history in it. There is black banister that wraps around the top of the room and their logo (I am assuming its Hyperion, one of the Greek sun gods, riding on a three headed horse). I looked up their website to see if there was any significance, but there was nothing about the history of the shop or the building. There is bar seating along the window across from the coffee bar. If you walk up the three steps its leads into another seating area. Most of the area was roped off though; it looked like they were remodeling (maybe). There are were a few tables indoors and a few more outside along the sides of the buildings. Most importantly, the coffee was good. Actually, it was excellent. I order cortados at every coffee shop I visit so that I can have a frame of reference for how the coffee is prepared. Unfortunately, cortados are not on the menu here and the baristas were not willing to make one. Honestly, a fourth of the shops I visit don't have cortados on the menu but they are normally willing to try. This was not an option at Hyperion and the young lady at the register tried to convince me that cortados and espresso macchiatos are the same. They are not. That being said, I accepted the espresso macchiato and it was delicious. I am not sure if it was the bean used or how the baristas pulled the shots, but the flavor was distinct and the texture was almost velvety which is normally not a characteristic of espresso macchiatos. The drink seemed to have an almost chocolate flavor. I should have asked the barista, but I was in a bit of a hurry. I did not have any food, but the pastries in the case looked yummy. Overall, Hyperion seemed like a nice little coffee shop with delicious espresso. It's definitely a great place to meet up with friends to chat or to may sit at the bar stools to read or people watch. read more

I will not be coming back. There are no good coffee shops in the Fredericksburg area. I strongly feel this is quite overpriced for the quality you receive. My go-to drink has been the monkeylicious. I get it regularly and deeply enjoy it. I have been recently noticing since Covid that the drink seems less rich than it has in the past, and it now has a slight aftertaste. For a quality special drink, I feel that it's rather expensive (~8.00 for this specific drink!) for the quality I've been receiving lately. Just yesterday was probably the straw that broke the camels back. I always tip, and get an extra shot, so my total was 10.00, and I had 1/3 full ice chunks at the bottom.
