I have heard nothing but amazing things about hyeholde and I now officially know why. This is one of the most amazing & magical places Pittsburgh has to offer. Dinner in a literal castle that has so many rooms and hidden tunnels you just have to see (before or after one of the most delicious dinners you'll have) our waitress was AMAZING and gave us the full tour when we were finished. I will absolutely be back. It is stunning and the food is some of the best I've had in Pittsburgh. This place is full of history and it's just so wonderful! I love Elk steak and hadn't had it in years, but lo and behold it was on the menu: Very well prepared. And, the wine list is broad, and fairly priced. The food and presentation was amazing. All the food was very fresh and some was even grown on the property. Plan to be here for a few hours as the service is slow and there is an outdoor area on the property that you can explore. They have a beautiful garden and patio area. The atmosphere and the ambience are so cute and picturesque. Unfortunately the food and drinks fall flat. We saw really cute cocktails on Instagram so we decided to give Hyehold a try. The drinks looked nothing like they did on Instagram, because completely different ingredients were used. Strange. Take down that recent post if you're not going to serve those cocktails, it's misleading. The food was fine, but the portions were TINY and everything was average. I ordered the chicken and it was alright but my vegetables were so hard I could barely cut them with a knife. The crème brûlée was good but the chocolate spoons were way overkill in my opinion. I couldn't taste anything but melted chocolate. I can see how people would like it, but it wasn't for me. Service was outstanding. read more

I went here for my birthday with a few friends and had such a good time! The atmosphere is so fun from the moment you turn into the driveway. It gives a medieval castle vibe from the outside. Inside is so cozy. The only thing I would say is to make sure you're not in a rush when you come here. It's definitely meant for you to spend time and enjoy your company, which was great for my birthday! The food and cocktails were really good. The portions are small, which is to be expected, but everything was very fresh. The reason for the 4 stars is just because it was pricey for nothing to blow me away. read more

This review took me a little to write, because i think im still honestly just confused. we came here for dinner during their 'picnics in the garden' experience where we had a nice table set up in the garden for us to have a gourmet picnic. my husband surprised me for my birthday. we were seating at our private table by the hostess, and brought our preselected picnic menu a few minutes later. the food was delicious. we had a lovely time. but no one came to check on us. NOT. ONCE. we ran out of water, were planning to order another drink and no one stopped by. since it was dinner time, the sun was starting to go down and we started to get bit by mosquitoes- still no one stopped by. i was dumbfounded. did they forget about us? we waited for our server to come back and bring our check, but they never did. we sat there until after the restaurant closed honestly thinking we got forgotten about. so we had to use our cellphone lights to walk back up to the reception space and find someone. they said 'that is the experience'. never in my life have i spent $300+ on a meal and never been checked in on once the food arrived. so we paid in the lobby space, standing there by the exit door. not only that, but on the receipt was the expectation to provide a tip - which we did, but given the fact we weren't checked on or given any service was just weird. i enjoyed the food, but the overall experience was negative. i was covered in bug bites for a week. maybe you get better service if you sit inside, idk. read more

Pulling up to this beautiful restaurant you feel like you r back in time .. the ambiance is old snd rustic inside this grand castle. The food was nothing short of delicious. It was my birthday and it delivered everything we expected. Our server was very good and spaced the food out perfectly. The taste and presentation was gorgeous. Our experience at this restaurant honestly could not have been any better. My older sister and her now fiancé had their surprise engagement party here. We booked the private room in the front of the restaurant which comfortably held 10 people. The staff was also very accommodating and willing to do whatever to make this night perfect, which it was. Food and drink: We started with two charcuterie boards which were fantastic. There were many different meats, cheeses, and bread options that all paired together perfectly. Our cocktails were so yummy. We tried a handful of different ones, and they all were phenomenal. My personal favorite was the pomegranate one. Each of our main courses were cooked wonderfully and tasted amazing. You can not go wrong with anything on their menu. The meat dishes were tender, while the fish dishes were light and flaky. Each was also full of flavor. I personally did not order any soup, salads, or shareable sides, but the other people in our party said they were fantastic, specially the Mushroom Fricassee. We ordered coffee once our empty plates were taken away and everyone loved it. The coffee was extremely rich and the perfect drinking temperature. Service: Alex, our personal waiter for the night was extremely polite. His service was truly unmatched. I have been to my share of fancy restaurants in and around Pittsburgh, and the way he treated us was better than any service I have had elsewhere. Every time we left the table for any reason, he would fold our napkin again by the time we got back. He asked to take our plates and cups when they were empty before grabbing them, and kept our beverages full throughout the whole night. I VERY strongly suggest requesting him to be your waiter if you try out this restaurant. Ambiance: As I said above, we booked the small room in the front of the restaurant. It very comfortably fit 10 adults. The room was super cozy with the fireplace, wood finishes and exposed brick. I would recommend this room to anyone looking to have an intimate celebration with top notch service. Overall, I will be returning to this restaurant in the very near future. If you want unique and locally sourced food then this is the place for you. Did I forget to mention, that this place is set/decorated as a medieval and exquisite atmosphere making it romantic and intimate. Now then menu is not for the faint of heart and if you are a picky eater, then this place may not be for you. The chef is takes passion in the food they cook and it shows by recommended cook temperatures, food pairings, and portion size. My wife got the Delmonico steak with mushrooms and potatoes and wow it was amazing! The sauce (some sort of Demi glaze) and the potatoes were amazing! I got the lamb rack medium done and dang was it the best lamb I had in a long time - the portions were generous but just enough. Highly recommend! The macrons at the end were delightful. Pricey but we will probably be back! The staff was top notch and did not try to sell you on anything - their recommendations were stop on! read more

We had our first experience here the week of Valentine's Day . Sorry for the delay but a review is better than no review. I say ' Experience ' because that is truly what we received from the time we arrived to the time we left. The evening started with professional valet parking service and a whimsical entrance into the front door . We were greeted by coat service and kindly received to our table . Our server was knowledgeable about the menu items, attentive, and personal. We were made to feel like their special guest and that made for a special night. The cocktails were made well and reasonably priced for the setting. The food was well prepared and presented. We ordered appetizers, entrees, and dessert and left satisfied. We dined upstairs in a room with slanted ceilings and two windows that allowed view of the snow falling slowly outside . The vibe was calm , casual elegance, and no rush. It's a bit pricier than most people have to spend, but for an anniversary or other special celebration, it's perfect. We were in the area on business and stumbled across this lovely abs historic restaurant. We were seated at a very nice table overlooking the gardens. So pretty! Our server was extremely attentive. We started with an old fashioned cocktail and a pomegranate martini which were both good. We also shared the beet salad, the wild mushroom appetizer, and the halibut. The mushroom appetizer had a gorgeous presentation. The halibut was tasty and mild but it was cold. We asked for it to be more heated through but it was still pretty chilly on the inside. For dessert we had the blueberry pavlova with house made blueberry ice cream. It was good too but a little sticky - we would have just went with the ice cream. Overall, though, a beautiful experience certainly worthy of a special celebration or date night. read more

Such a beautiful property to enjoy a dinner out. We were seated in the patio room with views of the courtyard. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu options for the evening. We started with the mushroom bruschetta which was the perfect combo of savory and salty. For main courses, I had the gemelli pasta (yes more mushrooms) and hubs chose the braised shank with truffle pierogi and sauteed cabbage. Both dishes were just delicious. The hardest part of the evening was choosing which entree since there were so many that just sounded divine. For dessert, we got the affogato (praline ice cream topped with espresso) and the chocolate peanut butter mousse. The only 4 star part of the show would be awarded to the cocktails. They were ok (but not showstoppers as I would I expected for the ambiance). The staff allowed and encouraged us to explore the property and take in all that was available. We were blown away by the history and beauty that has been maintained. We will definitely be returning for another night out. read more

I've been to a lot of really great restaurants, so when I tell you that this peculiar little place tucked away in Moon Township is phenomenal...trust me. We went on an uncharacteristically cool June evening and sat outside on the patio, which was a truly lovely spot. There's a big stone fireplace which the server kept going by adding an occasional log, and the entire area is surrounded by greenery and lovely landscaping. The inside of the restaurant is labyrinthian and full of interesting architectural quirks, antiques, and charm. The service was great. Our server, Brett, was extremely knowledgeable about the food, attentive without being overbearing, and generally just a pleasure to interact with. The food was really top-notch, and the portions were generous--we barely had room for dessert, but we powered through because they've just hired a new pastry chef and the server told us he's incredible and pointed out the specialties on the dessert menu. We took his advice on ordering and I'm so glad we did! Appetizers: foie gras (excellent), beef tartare (surprising flavor profiles, totally delicious), charcuterie board (this is a must, their house-made lardo spread is amazing, and everything else on the board was delicious too) Entrees: beef short rib (tender and delicious) and lamb pappardelle (delicious, huge portion) Desserts: roasted strawberry pavlova (exquisite) and honey cake (perfection) Cocktails: I forget the names, but one was a smoked whiskey something-or-other and delicious, another was bourbon with citrusy elements and also delicious, and my dining parter had a sweet, rum-based cocktail that he enjoyed. Our second restaurant meal in over a year was in the same place as the first, Hyeholde. The celebration of our 48th anniversary was perfect. We sat outside in the garden on a warm spring evening. The service and food were perfect. We shared the green salad and had the chicken and halibut entrees and shared the rhubarb desert. Everything was excellent. Hyeholde Restaurant offers a great ambiance, many delicious foods and friendly staff #yum

We checked out Hyeholde as part of our special event host research. We were thinking we should probably try the food if we were considering having our event there so we made a reservation for dinner to follow our meeting with their events planning manager. The Round Room space is a separate facility with floor to ceiling windows, a separate bar and restrooms, room for 100 at round tables, and a green lawn area for seating or cocktail hour just outside. It's really perfect for a wedding! The restaurant itself looks like an old European house with thick wooden timbers that were harvested from an old barn when the original owners built the place themselves. They were a husband and wife that married in the early 1900's and the wife always wanted to live in a castle on a hill -she just didn't know she was going to help build it brick by brick! They raised their family upstairs and opened a restaurant downstairs. The restaurant is still owned and run by one of the daughters who is now 82. The Round Room was built later and operated as a Cabaret for some time. Adriana, our server, was excellent! Bonnie, in their events planning area, was terrific too. Even the valet parking guys were nice. The grounds are green and inviting and the restaurant itself is warm and rich with history. There are some really neat New York Times cartoon paintings in the den/library room and a lovely outdoor patio with a stone fireplace. Our dinners were really delicious! I had the filet and my partner had the scallops. They were both cooked perfectly. I tried their sherry bisque which was just okay, to be honest, as it's lacking a protein in my opinion. They need a lump of crab or something in it to really make it shine but the flavor was good and it was served nice and hot. My partner tried the citrus cured wild salmon appetizer which was very good although the salmon could have really shone if it was a little thicker cut so it didn't disappear as much under the crème fraiche. It had a nice flavor profile. The filet came with a Boursin potato stack that was outstanding and some very fresh tender haricots verts. The scallops were served over a bed of saffron couscous that included a few delicate mussels and some pieces of chorizo and a delicious side of braised fennel. We were so stuffed, we passed on dessert but had a really good port to cap off a truly memorable meal. Adriana gave us a tour of the entire house when she found out we were considering the Round Room for our event. She was very gracious and informative. That's how we learned all about the husband and wife team and the history of the Hyeholde. They do romantic picnics on their grounds in the summer which sounds so perfect for a special anniversary! I love the old, "medieval" and classic style experience. This fancy house-restaurant is very cute in and outside, there are fireplaces in all rooms and the room we were (from around 6 types of different rooms) preserves the atmosphere, decor and old construction of the "medieval era". The food itself didn't not impressed us that much compared to some courses we had in other places but some meals, especially the service and the atmosphere worth the price. This restaurant opens only twice a year. I was so luck to get a reservation just about a week before Valentine's Day. It was the perfect place to celebrate our Anniversary!! The restaurant was completely full. Cozy, classic and very peaceful are the words that I would describe the agora of this place. read more
