I sometimes go to the cafe to work - although not really set up for this (make sure your computer is charged). I love browsing the gift shop. There is always something there to gift or that I want (but don't need) for myself. I usually end up leaving with a new book for my daughter. Great spot for some holiday shopping for your nature loving friends and family or a gift exchange. Good in the cafe is usually fresh and tastes great. I've enjoyed their salads, kids menu options and baked goods. The gardens are a wonderful place to plan a picnic or just walk around and take in all the hard work that goes into maintaining the grounds. They have a few areas geared towards kids and a lovely pond to sit and relax by. We especially love to admire the local art exhibits that routinely change.

I have attended a couple of events here (wedding, birthday) as well as regular visits. With over 65 acres, it was first established in 1988 and has certainly grown in leaps and bounds. It's a wonderfully peaceful and lovely garden that boasts walking paths, light shows (spectacular winter holiday displays), various exhibits, and more. So many plants and flowers to look at and smell. Everything you would expect a botanic garden to be. The last time I went home to Pittsburgh for a visit we took our dog with us and that was amazing. He loved it and I love that he was permitted to visit without issue at all. Everyone who works there is there for a reason, the love of nature and ensuring longevity.

Downstairs they have a hallway with the history of the family and the creation of the Hyeholde .. don't miss it! My husband and I went for an early Mothers Day dinner and we can't wait to go back for the chef's table experience. My husband enjoyed the elk dish while I enjoyed the halibut. Crème brûlée was delicious and the chocolate covered spoon was a nice touch. This is very much an experience dinner so expect $$$$.

Hyeholde is a unique dining experience. You drive up to what is quite literally a castle, and once…read moreyou arrive there is mandatory valet parking. From there, you enter the restaurant and are greeted by the hostess. There seemed to be several different dining areas--an upstairs area, a room off to the side, and another dining room down a few steps. The lower dining room is also ADA accessible. I don't drink alcohol, so I was happy to see that they had a few mocktail options. We started with the heirloom tomato salad and OMG. This was genuinely one of the best things I've ever tasted. The peaches, basil sorbet, tomatoes, and that bite of vinegar were SO complementary. Every bite had something going on. I ate the entire thing myself and didn't even offer any to my husband, which probably says more than anything else I could write about it. We also tried the mushrooms, smoked olives, and grilled peaches. My husband really enjoyed the mushrooms and peaches. I was more indifferent toward those dishes--they were perfectly fine, but the tomato salad was such a standout that nothing else we had to start came close for me. For my entrée, I ordered the smoked cod rigatoni. This one unfortunately wasn't my favorite. It was fine, but there was an oddly gamey flavor to it that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I love smoked flavors, so I don't think it was simply the smokiness--there was just something about the flavor that didn't work for me. My husband ordered the halibut and absolutely loved it. For dessert, we shared the banana PB&J, and my husband also ordered an affogato. Interestingly, they used chocolate syrup in the affogato, which he had never had before, so that was a fun and unexpected twist. Overall, Hyeholde is absolutely worth experiencing at least once. The setting is beautiful and unlike almost anywhere else in Pittsburgh, the service and atmosphere make dinner feel like an occasion, and that heirloom tomato salad alone is something I'll be thinking about for a long time. Not every dish was a home run for me, but the ones that were really stood out.

OMG people are still talking about the food weeks later and if you have an event do yourself a favor and upgrade to the beef brisket I think it was and don't forget the roasted potatoes- heaven. Also the complimets we heard is about the staff and we agree. The staff was not only quick and efficient, you had no idea that they were there. "how was my water glass never empty" was a comment we heard often. The space is also just beautiful and helped make our difficult day that much easier and memorable. Oh and out front of the building they had, on their sign, a message saying "Celebrating the life of (mom's name)". Nice touch.

The owners, Lenny and Dean and Amy, the Manager, were fantastic to work with and made the event everything we dreamed of. We felt very welcome throughout the planning. Cefalo's is a beautiful place to hold a wedding ceremony then dine on fantastic food cooked up by Dean and served by his staff in their dining room. After dinner, you can spend the rest of the evening partying the ballroom. They offer all the services, (or can recommend) you need when planning a wedding. For us and our guests, it was super convenient and easier to have everything for the wedding in one beautiful setting. The food, the hor's d'oeuvres, and entrees was amazing. There's also a huge bar attended by professional bartenders. The food servers were friendly, professional and very attentive. We received so many compliments from our guests on both the food and service. Many said that was the best food they ever had at a wedding! So, if you're looking for a top notch, First Class venue to have your wedding, look no further then Cefalos.
