I've made Hydrant the place where I wanted my dogs to be groomed. I've had good experiences since I started taking my dogs. This last time when I picked them I noticed their hair cut was much lower than I wanted. I wasn't upset about that, but when I got home , I noticed his hair was cut almost to the skin on his butt. I talked with the manager and she stated that he had done matting on his rear. I'm not sure if he actually had the Mats or if it was an excuse. I just feel like someone should've called me or showed me while I was there. I will go back. I'll make sure I don't get the same groomer. read more

I have been going to The Hydrant for 2 years with my long-haired Chihuahua that I adopted. They upped their prices to cover the costs they lose when people don't show up for their appts. That is not my problem and they have priced themselves out of my business. I live on a fixed income and always make my appts. Why am I being penalized for some else's behavior? They also started charging 2% to cover the fees charged by credit card companies. That's the cost of doing business and you can always take cash only and see how far that gets you. If you continue to pass all your losses on to your existing clients, you won't have any of them either. I just paid $57 for wash/hair cut/nail trim. Ridiculously high. Now that she's lost my business, let's see if she passes that on to her existing client base too. read more

Everyone is so friendly and amazing with my dog, Moxie. Caroline usually does my grooms, but when she is not available (I'm a last minute appointment maker), someone sweet is always there to groom my girl. I am very grateful for The Hydrant. The owner and Caroline came together to tend to my sisters fur babies while she lost her job due to being ill with cancer. They did the groom (cut and bath) for my sisters dogs FOR FREE knowing my sister has always been a customer and was unable to pay since losing her job to her illness. My dog was done so fast after they said over two hours. That I don't think they even bathed her. They shaved her to the skin cut her eyelashes off too. Beckah never attempted to brush her face and leave her face furry. She missed several spots and left patches of hair on her. Cut both her ears open and both sides of her face. I didn't even know it was my dog. I come here for my dog food once a week also spend 300 a month on food and the grooming was waaay over priced. They did refund me. I wanted to know if they had cameras. I do not think the groomer bathed my dog. She was supposed to have two baths and conditioning treatment a teeth cleaned and nails cut. Plus hair cut in one hour. Totally impossible. And I'm not the first customer to say their dog was never bathed. I have a golden doodle and when they were done with her she looked like a homeless mutt. I was in shock! Talked to owner but when I asked if she looked at the cameras I never got an answer. So I assume she seen the grooming and knows my dog didn't get a bath. Never ever will go back here. read more

However when I was waiting I witnessed a groomer grab a small dog by her leash and lift her in the air at least three feet and hold her there for 10 seconds. Very disappointed in our first experience with this place. I should have realized when they quoted me $65 for a bath and brush for a 25lb, 3 month old puppy. Not even a cut, just a bath and brush. Worse yet, they seem to be the only pet store in the area that doesn't take back food that makes your pet's stomach uneasy and/or sick. Would prefer to shop locally but when they aren't willing to work with you sadly, you have no choice but to go to the bigger chains. At $16 a bag for 5oz worth of treats, that's not something most consumers wish to take a gamble on. I personally used to manage pet stores in the city and we ALWAYS took back food if there was at least half the bag left and it made the pet sick or didn't agree with their stomachs. The stores have the relationship with the vendors to be able to do this. She claimed they don't which feels quite untrue and maybe she just didn't want to deal with it. The manager wouldn't even make a one time exception which would have changed my mind. Unfortunate and incredibly poor customer service. read more

Great grooming service! Loved our doodle's haircuts! The facility is clean and offers different retail products such as treats, bones, and toys. The staff does a great job giving doodle haircuts. They take their time brushing/dematting which helps make them come out nice and fluffy. They talk with you beforehand to make sure they understand the groom you are wanting. They are also very prompt (2-3 hours) which makes me believe they care for my only my dogs during their appointment times. A little on the pricey side (between $60-$100) but worth it. Glad to finally find a place in the area that does a great job. read more

I really enjoy the atmosphere there at The Hydrant. They usually have three or four girls out in the working area. They help you with questions about the food, food consumption, diets and other basic health issues. The girls that have worked with my Dachshund have shown an honest and sincere care, compassion, and love for my companion. The Hydrant does such a stellar job every time we take our poodle that I will never make the mistake of not bringing my dog here due to scheduling. The dog is excellently groomed, nails are clipped, ears cleaned, teeth brushed, glands expelled-- all for a fair rate, given the quality of the service and quick turnaround time. My dog, who will not voluntarily walk into Munster Animal Hospital nor the rear section of Petco or Petsmart will enter this store. That speaks volumes to me. This place should be your first choice. In a pinch, Petsmart or Petco will work if you provide proof of vaccinations, but don't go to Munster Animal Hospital unless you want to get upsold with their vet fees and vaccinations, even if you provide full medical history from another vet. read more

I was ready to fall in love with this place being a first time customer, but was sadly disappointed. I took my 6year old shepherd mix for a bath and nail trim. I picked her up there didn't seem to be any issues, they didn't provide much feedback on Calliope's visit, so I assumed we were all good. Once i was home, I was surprised to see blood on my carpet at home and on the couch. I was shocked that I wasn't notified by the groomer that she accidentally cut the nails too short. They would have saved me some deep cleaning and stains if they would have let me know. I quickly called to voice my concerns of not being notified at pick up, that my dog was bleeding quite significantly. During that phone call the receptionist had very little to say to ease my concerns. Please check your puppy's paws before leaving this place. read more

Once again That isn't what I asked. So I politely said "when do you open on Saturday?" I have never written a review, but after my experience with The Hydrant, I decided I really wanted others to benefit. I took my dog here last week after a bad experience with her last grooming appointment at a different groomer. This place is great! I was a little nervous leaving her given the problems I had in the past, but Mindy was extremely patient with me and addressed all my questions and concerns. She is extremely knowledgeable. A few months ago I would have given the Hydrant five stars. I began going to The Hydrant when it was at their initial location and had Crystal do our little mixed breed who looked like a Yorkie Dachshund and Schnauzer. We always asked for Crystal and recently it seemed as though the folks at Hydrant tried to switch us to somebody else but I resisted because Crystal knew how to groom our dog which was similar to that of a Schnauzer cut. Yesterday we took our dog and were assured that Crystal would do the job but I do not believe she did because when she came back she was given the equivalent of a buzz cut no feathering around the legs and most of the beard and moustache was removed. I could have done a better job as could most of those reading this. In forty years we have never had a worse grooming. We will not return to this place. Fantastic dog groomers, they removed all of my dogs matted fur and trimmed her up beautifully in just a few hours. They also take great care in keeping their facility clean, I used another local groomer and my dog ended up in the veterinary hospital due to a bacterial infection she received at that facility so I was very concerned about where I take her. They have great customer service and you can tell they love what they do. I will definitely be back. read more

I drive up from Indy to take my dog here (well my parents live in the region so it's still convenient.. I bring him when I visit). This is the very best place I've ever taken my shih tzu Jax! He has been with both Mindy (the owner) and Raquel and they have both done a fantastic job!! He has always received a great cut and smells amazing! For how detailed they are with the grooming, they are done very quick.. which is appreciated because my dog doesn't like being isolated/crated for long periods of time. I love this store! I buy all of my dog and cat supplies here and always will. The past few weeks I have been buying the tiny bags of dog and cat food every few days. Needless to say times have been hard this month but i still needed to get my pets good food. I did not want to downgrade to a lower brand for the time being. This week i came in to buy yet another small bag of food. As i got to the register the owner Mindy Trzeciak decided to help me out when my pets and I needed it the most. I cannot express how pleased I am with The Hydrant! After looking for a reputable groomer close to home I came across The Hydrant. They had great reviews so I gave them a call. I called as soon they opened at 8am. The receptionist was very pleasant over the phone and they were able to fit me in on such short notice on the same day. I got a student groomer her name was Caroline. All my dog was going in for was a bath and ear cleaning. After speaking with Caroline and finding out she had a German shepherd of her own I felt comfortable leaving my dog there with someone who has experience with the breed. Upon arrival staff was very pleasant and very good with dogs. They gave me a courtesy call when My dog was ready. Caroline came Out with my dog and he was super happy. They did such a great job with his bath as well as handling him. We already booked our appointment for next month with Caroline. Shes great and is great with the dogs as well! My cat, Caspurr is not an easy cat to shave/groom, because he's a long hair persian that gets matted easily. He came out of there looking great! Hydrant made it so easy with their helpful staff and owner, who's the only one that grooms the cats. She (didn't catch the owner's name) was genuinely friendly and confident in her work. went for a nail trim about a month ago---walked in on a saturday and the staff was very pleasant. took our dog in the back and gave a great trim. fast foward to saturday 5/15/21... walked in and was rudely confronted by the owner asking if we had an appointment. told her no, we just need a nail trim. she then yelled at us that walk ins are not allowed after 12 on saturdays, but they would do it. it was 12:15. nowhere on their website does it say they have a cut off for walk ins..... this pos then aggressively took our small dog in back and had one of the techs trim his nails. i made sure to watch them the entire time---the woman glared at me the entire time she was assisting trim my dogs nails..i cant imagine what would have happened to my pet if i hadnt been watching them. i will NEVER return to this groomer, and by the other reviews, it seems like they mistreat the animals, mad to have to do work. i should turn them in to the BBB and ASPCA!!!!!! read more
