A bit like poutine without the cheese curds. I loved it: fries covered in pulled pork and barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese, and a generous scoop of coleslaw on top. In short, everyone thought their food was delicious. Most of us had pie afterward. The service was excellent. Wait staff were all friendly, efficient, and busy. When we moved to Hamilton, Hyde's was the only locally owned breakfast place we could find. Thankfully, Hyde's plays that part perfectly. This isn't brunch, it isn't fancy, but it's authentically itself - a good ol' fashioned diner breakfast done perfectly every time. My wife and I do some variation of biscuits and gravy every time we go, as it's the perfect no-frills sausage gravy and flaky + tender biscuits. She loves that you can do a half-order of the regular biscuits and gravy and add an egg, while I have a hard time not getting The Kitchen Sink Breakfast. It's basically biscuits and gravy with an egg included + choice of breakfast meat (I always go sausage patties) + cheddar cheese. But the pro way to order this is add hashbrowns into the bowl. There are plenty of other options too. Guest who have accompanied us have had various omelets, and all looked great. I've also tried the pork fritter breakfast and found the pork crispy and juicy, and of course I added that gravy. Usually diner coffee is burnt tasting but Hyde's is actually quite solid. It's always hot, and they keep it coming. Speaking of service, it's always spot on. It's seat yourself, but someone is always by quickly to get your drink order started and provide silverware before the server arrives. Everyone is always so friendly too. And FYI, you pay at the front counter. In short, we love Hyde's and are thankful for it. From the biscuits and gravy to the service, it's a hit every time we go. Yeah, it's a time capsule, but that's part of the charm. Don't ever change Hyde's, we love you as you are (unless you want to add tater tots to the menu, we'll support that). read more

This place would be good if you are on a flavorless diet restriction. It's basically a very old establishment which would lead you to think they would have good stuff. Unfortunately the food is bland, the place aged and hasn't been updated in since it opened. So it doesn't give you a clean feeling and the bathrooms well let me say just hold it until you leave. Been a few since I was last here. Had the roast beef with mashed potatoes and green beans. The roast beef was insanely dry, like eating leather. Food wasn't hot at hot, beans were okay, at best. Wife had the liver and onions and had the same experience. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our waiter was a solid fella, John I think was his name. Atmosphere was okay, seemed like a an old folks home type of place. We brought the average age down by 10 minutes. Definitely not worth what we paid at all. read more

Our first visit here we could not have found a more inviting place for breakfast. Wife had French toast which she enjoyed. I had the Western omelette that was cooked perfect. It was a stuffed omelette with more topping on top and the hash browns are crispy and tasty and not overly salty. The biscuit was the real star of my meal. These are never frozen. Never out of a can-biscuits made fresh each day and you will tell that from the first bite you take. No butter needed because the butter is baked right in. Service was great even though they were very crowded. We had to wait slightly longer than normal for a meal but they kept us apprised of the wait and the meal was delivered very hot and fresh off the grill. The food was absolutely terrible! Service was great though. The egg on the omelette was paper thin, the veggies were hardly cooked. And there was NO CHEESE on it. Then when she brought our plates back with cheese all they did was slap on some American slices..... didn't even melt them. The eggs were properly "over medium" (not a huge accomplishment) the hash brown were prepared properly but cold, the sausage patties entered life as very small offerings of 3rd grade level sausages and looked like miniature hockey pucks and tasted like both. Pancakes were acceptable. The biscuit was a triumph! My wife's crispy bacon was limp, translucent and also had the appearance of barely acceptable food grade meat. Her French toast looked like overcooked wonder bread (at first I thought it was dipped in a cinnamon/egg batter) but, no. It was simply just bad. There must be a surviving breakfast spot in Hamilton that can deliver. I don't think I've ever delivered as critical review. If you want a diner style family restaurant- this is the place. It speaks of years gone by in the decor. However the food is very good and the service efficient and pleasant. They say their specialty is pies. So I'll start my food review with dessert first. We had the coconut cream pie and a banana cream pie. Both are homemade and the meringue is piled a 'mile' high atop. Went here Friday because they have salmon patties. They where the best I have had and I have had some good ones. The Mac and cheese was good as usual topped off by their coleslaw. I enjoy breakfast or lunch depending on the time of day and my mood of course, at many places with the EAA chapter from Butler County Airport. While helping a friend work on a few items I was asked if I wanted to come here. I haven't been here before and the word Pie was mentioned, so here I came. I ordered probably one of the best breakfast burritos I have had, well maybe with the exception of the one food truck when I was in the Navy, but that might have just been the fact I hadn't eaten in over 24 hours... anyway I digress, this is a very good breakfast burrito. It could have had more bacon, but that is a personal preference or maybe I should have ordered sausage, hmmmm now there is a thought. So I enjoyed the burrito and one of the people I was with also got the burrito, but he got just the veggie version i.e. no meat. He said his was very good as well. The coffee was good. The Pie was well worth coming back for if for no other reason. I had the Strawberry Rhubarb and it was perfect. The crust was just the right amount of flaky and had good flavor to the crust, the filling was both sweet and tart which is perfect for a Strawberry Rhubarb pie. The only thing missing? Well I should have gotten a slice to go, it was that good. Why only 4 stars you ask. Well this is two fold, one to give me a reason to come back and two the service for drink refills was a wee slow. It truly was my only complaint, not please keep in mind I think they only had 3 young ladies serving and the place was pretty full so this isn't there fault, but it is still the only thing I can complain about. Heard about this place forever on a Saturday afternoon the wife and I stopped and seated right away. The place was crowded. Service was quick and friendly. The food tasted great two drinks, two hoagies, one order of fries one piece of pie $35. I don't know if I can afford to come back or not. The food was outstanding, if you're there for breakfast make sure to add a half order of biscuits and gravy to your order. Solid old diner. You know exactly what you're getting the moment you walk in the door. I had a steak hoagie and a bowl of chophouse potato soup. I was expecting shaved steak, kinda like a philly cheese steak. What I got was a steak "patty," sort of like Salisbury steak. But it was super tasty. It also had cheese, onions, banana peppers and mushroom sauce. Really good. The chophouse potato soup was a loaded baked potato soup. In this case, super loaded. Plenty of bacon, chives, etc. Again, super good. Hubby had a hamburger, his go-to choice most places. His pronounced his burger good, with a hand-formed patty and a toasted bun. I stole a few of his fries, and they were good. I had no room for pie, but plenty of folks around me ordered one of the eight to ten pie varieties. Next time I'm saving room, because it looked delicious. So why am I docking a point? I ordered iced tea, was given sweet tea, and was not aware that unsweetened tea (my preference) was an option until refill time. Also, my soup didn't arrive until my sandwich was nearly eaten.
