Gas...fine. Groceries...Okay. But visit the Market Fresh Grille "express" after 6pm?....Good luck. How dare you request a meal. Though open until 9pm they gotta start shutting things down don't you see. REALLY bad service. New levels. We just moved to the area and were looking for something quick to eat after unpacking and having an extremely busy week. We have never felt so put off by employees at ANY type of food establishment let alone a Hy-Vee's grill. We got there before 7 with the Grill is open till nine. They were yanking stoves and putting food away like a tornado was on his way and they were trying to get out of there. Granted I got my money back after I went back up to the register and saw employees zombified on their phones instead of making food and taking care of customers. You know how you have your own grocery store and judge all others by that standard? Well this Hy-Vee is definitely a little off. It's like bizarro Hy-Vee. Why is produce on the left? PRODUCE GOES ON THE RIGHT! Why is the booze on the right? BOOZE GOES ON THE LEFT! Maybe if you were born and raised on this location it seems normal, but I've been to probably a dozen Hy-Vees, and this one is backwards, I promise! I don't like it one bit. I also noticed that they had practically zero locally produced selections. I try and buy local food whenever possible, and I wasn't seeing any of my regulars. My wife and I have a love-hate relationship with this, which is "our" grocery store because it's only a half mile away. It's perfectly adequate, well-lighted, clean, and pretty big. No problem with long lines. But it's always a game with me, --I'm always trying to buy name brand foods and HyVee is always hogging the shelves with their own brand. The game is to not buy any HyVee brand groceries, and it's not easy to win. They've got a liquor store, flower shop, bank, deli with eat-in area, and a pharmacy, but I only go for the groceries. We drive a few miles out of our way to shop here. Recently we discovered how great the salad bar is. Perfect pre-shopping dining.. Not too heavy and so fresh. My girls love the pizza by the slice. The store is very clean and the layout is user friendly. I don't mind asking for help here. Need to know what pears are ready for cooking with vs. which ones need to ripen? Just ask. There's at least 2 people working in produce. Random meat question? Last time I asked how to cook fish on cedar planks. Got the answers and the fish was awesome! I wish the parking lot was less congested, but that isn't HyVee's fault since it's in a busy strip mall. It's pretty quiet by 730 or 8pm though. read more

This is MY Hy-Vee, the only place I shop for grocery:) Either friends or family gather together at the deli to eat breakfast (cause ya don't grocery shop hungry) and then I fill my mini basket UP. I've got the layout down, know where to go and where to find my choices. It's got a plentiful bakery, deli, meat market, and LOTS of better priced Hy-Vee brands. (In case you didn't know, stores don't manufacture their own products. They buy simply a label that the main producers sell.) AND I can even fill up with gasoline with a savings per gallon, according to how much I groceries I buy. A win-win for me! read more

This store is about the best grocery store I've been to. They have quite a variety of items but I can still usually find "unique" items too. Every single encounter I had with their staff was helpful and positive. Their salad bar and deli is top notch, too. I ate some fried chicken for lunch that was better than just about any other fast food options and better priced. I would give it negative stars but here we are. I come in to grab a few things because Walmart was closed. While I'm checking out a "senior" employee starts yelling at another employee talking about who's in charge and telling her to go home. Mind you this is not behind closed doors and in front of customers. Employee was very distressed, but kept her composure. As a shopper I felt outraged to see a employee treated this way. Sara a manager said she would address it but the employee who was being yelled left minutes after I was done checking out with no manager talking to her. This employee just got back from forced COVID testing with a negative results for having it. Having come back from the flu and being forced to interact with customers. Have been here several times for breakfast, lunch & dinner. This place is a Chinese fire drill. At dinner they advertise a Halibut dinner & a Salmon dinner of which they do not have. They are trying but just can not seem to be able to put everything together. Service is excellent. Do not order hamburgers. They were small for the price & not flavorful. Breakfast is excellent. When they first opened there were many customers but as time goes on less people come. read more

Management after 8 pm is not trained to confirm pricing errors and properly process refunds. I use my own experience from the past 10 days as an example. I purchased an item off the shelf, where the "small sales tag" indicated it was $1.99. I was charged $3.99. I went to the Customer Service counter, and an Assistant Manager claimed that, in fact, my purchase should have been charged at $4.29. I didn't know until going back home hours later it was 2/$5, or $2.50/each. So we were all wrong. I asked for a refund of the product - and was open about that savings from the Wal-Mart across the street at $2.50. A Customer Service person refunded my money in cash while I was trying to explain I used my credit card. Immediately after that I told him I used my credit card and that I had to receive a credit. He was annoyed - and so was I. In my view he was rude, and I'm sure in his view, I was rude. After me explaining the issue he tried to issue a credit - and it didn't work. He called the Assistant Manager on Duty. He could not make it happen. The Assistant Manager made offhand remakrs that there was something wrong with my chip card (which I had just used to purchase not only my return item but thirty-plus dollars of other merchandise). He finally told me "contact Capital One because they will not process returns on their credit cards from our store." I did that, and Captial One indicated to me that they had no indication of any activity from this merchant except the sale. I took the cash, which I will now have to take time to deposit into my bank account (it was a little over $4), to ensure that my using my credit card for all non-cash purchases "balances out." Interestingly enough, while I was walking away after the several failed "refunds," I heard the Assistant Manager say something to the Customer Service staff like this.. "oh, no, you can't process this as a void, but as a refund." No kidding. I was in retail for many years and learning how to credit part of a purchase is basic training. To add insult to injury, another Hy-Vee, within a mile, uses a different approach when there is an issue with sales markings - make the customer happy. that doesn't mean giving me a credit where none is due, but apologize for the mistake/confusion. I will admit I wasn't the nice guy - I was blunt that I wanted my money back b/c what they said wasn't what was on the shelf and across the street at wal-mart I could get it at the sale price. The other store (on Englewood) doesn't care. In fact, in the past, they have looked up and given me the sale price/Perks Points from the other store when the first store offerrs the sale/perks but doesn't have the merchandise in hand and I'm not offered a rain check option. So know that this Hy-Vee is so dedicated to saving a penny here and there that it is okay to risk losing the business of at least one customer who spends approx $400/month. Happy for them. I'll drive the extra 1/2 mile to be treated as a customer who is wanted for his business - even if the prices are 1% higher on some items. Being treated like a customer instead of a liar and/or a pain in the backside is worth it. If you should ever have a problem at the Prospect Hy-Vee, expect staff to have the default POV that they are right and you, the customer are wrong. Oh, and also expect they don't know how to credit your payment correctly - even in violation of their merchant agreement and your cardmember agreement. They simply don't care. That's their unspoken "commitment to service" - we are right, the customer is wrong, and we won't follow the rules either. read more

I LOVE Hy-Vee. Why? The people working there really are as friendly and helpful as they claim to be in all those commercials. Their Health Market is terrific and I love that a Dietician is on staff to help customers. They rate there products with a "NuVal" score to give a quick measurement of the nutrition of the item, (The higher the score the more nutrient dense). The meat department is more like an old-fashioned butcher than any other grocery store I've been. They have their own store brand Almond Milk (and other items) that is so much cheaper than the name brand. They have a gas station that you can get a discount at AND it has a Maid Rite for those times you just crave a greasy loose meat sandwich and a malt (The Nostalgia!). They have drive up service to pack your groceries in your car. Best of all...one day, several years ago, I got home from shopping with my two preschoolers and found my bread totally smashed. I called Hy-Vee and thought they'd let me exchange it for a new one whenever I could make it back up there. No way! The manager asked my for my address and brought me a new loaf of bread PERSONALLY. This really is a great hyvee. I've been to the stores all over kc and this one is probably the best. They make food there that is tasty and to the point. All day breakfast is huge! Me and my daughter go there in the morning and eat gratuitously for less than ten dollars. The staff, while young, is always willing and helpful if you have questions. The in-store beer selection is expansive, cold, and rivals any good liquor store. I think this store is definitely the best in the area. read more

I have been a customer of this Hy-vee for about 16 years. I love that they have a post office which makes it convenient until now. I have no idea why it is being run by a control freak!! I use to go to the post office to return stuff like from QVC. The associate would scan the bar code and give me a receipt. Easy Peasy. Now they say that they can not do it. I had a woman who I believe is a manager who was very rude who said they can not. I had an associate scan the bar code and it printed a receipt. She took it and said they can not and if I wanted a receipt to go to a post office!!! I went to another Hy-vee who was able to give me a receipt. Last week I went to buy stamps and was told that only one book of 10 stamps per customer!! What kind of shit is that!!! I saw an associate pull a large stack of books with stamps. It was weird. It was as if the associates were afraid of whomever has given them this stupid order. The looks of the faces of the people in line waiting to buy stamps to hear they can only get one book of 10 and during the Holiday Season. Seriously!!! I use to love to shop at this Hy-vee for the convenience and the other associates who are quite nice. I just don't understand why they allow such a tyrant of a manager to run the post office dept. read more

There is something off in the layout of this store. I find myself zig zagging back and forth. Dairy items are in two spots on opposite sides of the store. If you want cheese and milk, you won't find it together. I was looking for a specific yogurt and waited patiently while two employees held a looooong personal conversation in that area of the store. Very annoying listening to them while I just stood there. Take a breath and look around at your customers. Next visit, same area of store, same scenario. Maybe that is a hiding spot for employees. Seriously- long personal conversations, yak yak yak. So I finally just walked off. The other beef I have with this store is that while the employees are extremely friendly and helpful ( when not yakin in the back) is that on two separate occasions I approached managers to ask where certain products were. On both occasions, they were less than friendly- one even argued with me when I couldn't find the jarred beans with the canned beans. Launched into a long explanation of why they weren't together. Today I asked for seasoning packet location and this manager I smilingly said " you'll have to be more specific". Huh? You work in grocery and don't know what seasoning packets are? Rude management in my opinion. Checkout people and other employees I find in the aisles are generally very very helpful. Very disappointed in this store. I purchased some uncured hot dogs in the health food section that were nitrate and msg free. I got home and noticed that the date was 1-13-13. Wow. Just wanted to take a moment to thank the director of this store (Nick) for what he did yesterday for us. I stopped in at the bakery on Friday afternoon and ordered a cake for a birthday party on Tuesday night. I gave them my order and told them I needed to pick it up by Tuesday morning. Yesterday afternoon when I stopped in to pick the cake up, we realized there had been some mix up, and the cake had not been made. It took about 5 minutes, if that, for Nick to come to the bakery and realize they had made a mistake. He personally took responsibility and told me that they didn't have anyone at that store to make the cake, but they would take the order to another store, have it made, and deliver it to us. And he insisted that they would not charge us for the cake. The bakery from the other store called me to verify everything on my order and the cake was delivered in an hour and a half to my home, by Nick personally. I have never had such wonderful customer service. If I didn't already give this store all my grocery business, I would absolutely start! I love this Hy-Vee, and if you ever have the pleasure of meeting or working with Nick, you will see how dedicated he is to making sure every one of his customers has a positive experience. I write this not because it's the closest grocery store to me. I write this because it truly is a great store with MANY friendly and helpful people. The liquor store is AWESOME, and if you haven't seen it, you need to check it out because they ALWAYS have SALES on wines; usually saving at least $2-$4 per bottle. The HyVee brands here are comparable to brand named food. I mention this because I saw in a previous post that someone complained HyVee was hogging the isle space with their HyVee brand. I used to be a name brand shopper UNTIL my daughter (who worked here at the time while in HS) told me to try them because many are name brand items just wrapped in a HyVee name. I have switch 75% of my name brand item to HyVee and save $$ without having to clip coupons; and even with the coupon it was still not comparable savings. The chips, pretzels, soda, tortillas, cheese, milk, pasta, cereal, dressings, taco & fajita seasonings, baby cereal puffs, canned chilies, canned tomato's, re-fried beans, salsa, are some of the things that I found to be equivalent to the name brand; the only thing I have tried and didn't like was the mayo so far, so I will stick to Hellman's. The pharmacy is great and I have switched our whole family from Walgreen's to here which has also saved us $$ with the $4 generic brand cost here; originally I was paying $10 for generic at Walgreen's. They also sell DRY ICE!! Thank you HyVee!! We also LOVE the breakfast here, what a great deal for $3.50 and come for Veteran's Day Free breakfast every year to celebrate as both my husband and I are Veterans.
