Very honest and reliable. My family has been coming here for years and this is the only mechanic I'll trust with my vehicles.

On October 30th at 2:09 PM, I brought my car to Pep Boys Auto, store #1480 (1846 5th Avenue, Bay…read moreShore, NY) for a state inspection, Service Work Order #2086265. My car failed inspection because it was missing one rear driver-side lug stud. What's most disappointing is that neither the technician, Edward F., nor the service manager, Paul Nembhard, said a single word before performing the inspection to inform me that the missing lug stud would cause an automatic failure. If they had simply told me, I could have easily purchased a replacement lug stud elsewhere since one was not available for purchase in-store, which was an inexpensive fix, and avoided failing the inspection altogether. When I asked Paul why they wouldn't notify me about an issue like this before proceeding, his response was that it "wouldn't be ethical." That explanation made absolutely no sense. There is nothing unethical about informing a customer of an issue that will cause their car to fail. What would be unethical is passing the car without the repair, which I never requested or implied. Instead of understanding my point, Paul completely misconstrued my words, repeatedly insisting that I wanted his mechanic to "do something illegal" by passing the vehicle as-is. That was not what I said or meant. I only wanted to be notified of the issue so that I could fix it before it resulted in a failure. To make matters worse, after the failure, I was told I would have to pay an additional $10 for the reinspection once I replaced the lug stud. When I expressed my frustration about the lack of communication that led to this unnecessary cost, Paul's only response was, "It's just $10 to get the car reinspected." That dismissive attitude showed zero concern for my time and money. I even made the analogy that if my windshield wiper was missing, something Pep Boys conveniently sells in-store, any reasonable manager would suggest buying and installing one before failing the inspection. Paul had no answer for that either. On top of everything, I was charged an additional $10 to have the car reinspected at another state approved facility after I resolved the issue myself. This was a cost that could have been avoided entirely had they communicated properly from the start. This entire experience reflected a serious lack of professionalism, poor communication, and a disregard for customer service. I left extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. I will not be returning to Pep Boys Auto, store #1480, and I strongly advise others to take their business elsewhere.

I can't say enough about Juan at the Bay Shore Pep Boys! I was leaving for work and got a message…read moreon my dash that my rear passenger tire only had 24 lbs. pressure. After checking the tire, I found what looked like a bolt in it. I went right to Pep Boys and Juan took me in immediately. He did the work himself, was able to remove the bolt, plug the tire and get me on my way to work. Juan is the Best and I highly recommend the Bay Shore Pep Boys!

Based on your diagnosis, of control arm replacement and front tire and front rims. I authorized repairs totaling $2,291.62. After these repairs were completed, the original shaking issue remained. Your technicians then informed me that the tie rods were the cause and replaced them at no additional cost. When that failed to resolve the issue, they said it was my back rims causing shaking of vehicle, that failed to resolve issue as well. I was then told that the vehicle required a rack and pinion replacement, which would have resulted in thousands of dollars in additional repairs. They said they will order parts and have yet to contact me. Because I had lost confidence in the diagnosis and lack of customer service. I sought a second opinion from another repair facility. The second mechanic immediately identified the actual cause of the problem: both rear brake calipers were seized, requiring replacement of the rear brake calipers, rotors, brake pads, and brake hoses. After these repairs were completed, the shaking issue was completely resolved. It is evident that the repairs performed by Pep Boys did not address the reason my vehicle was brought in for service. Had I relied on your recommendation, I would have unnecessarily paid for an expensive rack and pinion replacement while the actual problem remained unresolved. Additionally, after reviewing my paperwork, I discovered that the invoice provided to me contains another customer's name and address instead of my own. This represents a serious mishandling of customer records and raises concerns regarding your recordkeeping and customer privacy practices.

I honestly cannot complain enough about Mavis, specifically the Deer Park Avenue and Commack Road…read morelocations. And unfortunately, the biggest problem has been the Regional Manager. I had to visit these locations multiple times. I want to be fair and say the employees at Commack Road were great. They kept apologizing for what happened at the Deer Park Avenue location and were actually trying to help me. Everything was going fine until the Regional Manager got involved. This is the same Regional Manager who previously promised me he would handle the situation and sent me to the Commack Road location so I wouldn't have to deal with Deer Park Avenue anymore. While I was there, he ended up speaking to one of his employees on my phone. I was standing about two feet away from the employee. The phone wasn't on speaker, but I could clearly hear the Regional Manager talking. Then I heard him say, "Fuck this guy." Seriously? I'm standing right there, and this is how a Regional Manager chooses to talk about a customer who is already dealing with an ongoing issue? I don't care how frustrated you may be with a customer. You don't talk about them like that, especially when you're supposed to be the person responsible for resolving the situation. The employees at Commack Road were actually doing their best, and I have nothing bad to say about them. My problem is with the person who is supposed to be leading them. In my opinion, this Regional Manager needs to either be fired or seriously retrained on how to deal with customers and represent the company. After everything I've dealt with, hearing a Regional Manager say "Fuck this guy" while I'm standing two feet away was the final straw. Mavis really needs to do better.
