The company I work for does a lot of events. A LOT. And as the Director of Marketing, it's my job to secure and hype those events and the vendors who were committed to attend. We had booked and confirmed Hustle n Dough on April 30th for our May 17th Bike Night. The exact words in the email from them were, "Count us in for the 17th."
We were super excited about having them come out and take care of the crowd at our Bike Night. We spent a lot of man hours, made flyers with them prominently placed, bought ad space to promote and time hyping the event, specifically promoting that Hustle n Dough would be there. All of us, including a lot of our customers and clients were really excited to try them out and see how awesome they were, as indicated by their pretty stellar Yelp reviews.
I would have loved to have talked about the great coffee and doughnuts. I really would have. But I can't, because they CANCELED ... AT 4:26 PM THE NIGHT BEFORE OUR EVENT. Really? At the end of the day the night before a major event? Who does that? Apparently, Hustle n Dough does.
In the email that was sent at 4:26 PM the night before our event, I was told "I am so sorry to have to cancel but we got booked for 3 private catering events Friday-Sunday and it directly conflicts with us coming out tomorrow." Now, I don't know about you, but booking for 3 private catering events is something you find out about with at least a little advance notice. I should have been the first person they when this happened to renegotiate. But that didn't happen. This unprofessional behavior is appalling, and absolutely unacceptable.
Look, I'm a pretty understanding guy and if a better gig comes along that you can't pass up, CALL ME when you find out AND LET ME KNOW. I get it, I really do. I'd completely understand, and we could have worked it out, and used them at a later date. But this last minute lack of honor on their part makes myself and the company I work for feel like we got hustled and dropped for more dough elsewhere, even though we had a commitment. Not to mention all of the publicity we did promoting them. And not to mention the people at our 300 + person attended event who came up asking where Hustle n Dough were. I had to apologize and tell say we got stood up. I don't like looking like an idiot, nor do I like having to apologize for someone's lack of business ethics.
The bottom line? I wouldn't have even given Hustle n Dough one star if I had that option, but alas, that's not how Yelp works. I take a verbal/written commitment as a promise, and Hustle n Dough broke their promise and commitment to us because apparently, a better name (read that as more $$$) showed up, and we got dropped. Awesome. Way to go. That shows a lack of integrity and character on their part. I can't in good faith, consider ever using or recommending them. read more
