The stylist apparently had 20 years of experience, so my daughter went ahead and booked an appointment. At the start of her appointment she discussed with the stylist want she wanted and even showed her a photo of how she wanted it cut, (the photo was her hair from a previous haircut at a different salon). The stylist BUTCHERED her hair. I know some hair stylist will cut curly hair dry, but this stylist didn't even look at her curl pattern she just cut inches off her hair. It looks nothing like the photo she shared when she arrived. She is in tears over this horrendous haircut. All of her beautiful curls are GONE. Definitely will not return and do not recommend this salon.

I eventually agreed to a photo with a minimal bang and followed it up by placing my hand on my head and saying "ok, but I wouldn't want them to here or anything." She proceeded to give me literally half a head of bangs, almost two full inches behind the line I said was already beyond my comfort zone. Right before it was done, I was getting increasingly anxious with the plan and she challenged me with "what is your body saying?" I responded, "it's screaming no..." to which she quickly responded "well, I have a full body yes and I'm gonna go" and seconds later it was done. It wasn't that my communication was unclear and I'm still baffled why I didn't stand up and walk out, I've just NEVER been coerced by a stylist like that before! When I went for a repair haircut the new stylist heard my story and said, "let me guess, an Adeline?" Apparently she is know for this type of behavior, believing herself an artist who knows what you want better than you do. In the week since I've heard from several other's who were treated similarly and felt stunned into submission. I am going to regret visiting her salon for well over a year while this grows out. Pre and two posts. I wish I'd been warned, perhaps I'd have been less stunned into compliance.

I got a great cut here. I have really thick, curly hair. Even though I requested a straight style cut, she made sure that it would still look good if I wore it curly, which I didn't ask for, but I reaaaally appreciate! I asked her some product questions, and she recommended some products that she doesn't even sell! So I knew I could really take her advice. Two reasons it gets four instead of five stars: When she was done, I asked her to make my bangs just a little shorter, and she took off about 1/2 an inch, when I was thinking more like 1/4 inch. So they were a little awkwardly short, but it's partly my fault for not being really specific. The second reason is because the location is not super beautiful. It's defintely nice, but it doesn't feel like a luxury. But I suppose that is maybe why the haircuts are only $30!

I'd had a facial once before at a prestigious salon in Chicago's famous Watertower Place, and it was not nearly as good as the one I received right here in lil' ol' Duluth, MN at Rue 48! The aesthetician's fingers worked their magic on my face, neck, and shoulders; and although at that Chicago salon I could not properly relax because they hard sell peddled their products at every turn, the aesthetician at Rue 48 in Canal Park was respectful of my boundaries. I had lots of skincare products I had just purchased that I loved and had been using for a long time and my skin was in good condition so she showed me without pushing one bit. The facial made my good skin glow in the best way (as a complement to my glowing personality hahaha!) I'm about to book another appointment, this time for a pedicure. I'll let you know how it goes. Canal Park itself is a must-see on the Duluth waterfront with myriad places of note to please your palate, whet your whistle, shop till you drop, sight-see and more. I don't want to over-explain, but if you are looking for a place that is responsive to your basic service and concerns, avoid a SK pedicure at this point. -Our scheduled appointment was delayed by 50 minutes, during which we sat with our feet in lukewarm pedicure baths in the back of the salon. -We were then worked on by 1 young and clearly inexperienced person who attempted to serve us both at the same time. She was joined about 20 minutes later by another person, and they rushed through our pedicures. Neither was done at a professional level. -My person reworked the final polish so many times, it was mottled, wet, and uneven; probably the worst professional pedicure I have received. - After nearly 2 hours in the salon, I walked bare-footed and wet-polished to the front. There, I tried to salvage the job with polish remover myself. -We were not offered a discount for our trouble, so I asked for one. This was the most disappointing aspect to me; the owner or manager should have been responsive immediately for the poor service we received, and offered at least some compensation. -After settling on a minor readjustment, I left feeling pretty unsettled and embarrassed in front of my guest, but I am very clear. The response below is the only one I've received to date, after emailing twice within the last two weeks. I even asked to change the originally requested date to ensure they had staff availability, but still no response. Valentine's Day weekend would seem to be a busy weekend for spas, and I am shocked this establishment doesn't have their ducks in a row to take advantage of the special weekend.
