"Fiery & Fierce at Colour Lounge!"…read more Okay, listen up, because I've just been through the ultimate hair transformation at Colour Lounge, and if you're thinking about going black and red, you need to read this. Imagine taking Wednesday Addams, tossing her in a blender with Jessica Rabbit, and pouring that gorgeous, badass mixture straight onto my head. The result? Absolute fire. My hairdresser didn't just slap some dye on my head and call it a day. Oh no. This was ART. They took one look at me, saw I was ready to embrace my inner rockstar (or villain--depends on the day, honestly), and turned my wild vision into a reality. They nailed the perfect inky black and deep, sizzling red combo that had me questioning whether I was too hot to be seen in public. We're talking layers of red and black woven together so seamlessly that people might think my hair's literally on fire when I walk by. Subtle? No. Glorious? Absolutely. And the whole experience? Let's just say my hairdresser has the patience of a saint and the sass of a drag queen--they knew exactly how to keep me laughing while wielding enough foil to power a small satellite. If you're looking for someone who knows their way around black-and-red hair like a pro and who'll treat you like royalty (while dishing out some A+ life advice), book here immediately. In short: I came in looking for a change, and I left feeling like a walking goddess of fire and darkness.

It was so great, I decided then that I'd go back the next time I needed a trim - and it was the best decision I've made about my hair and my eyebrows since the early 2000's when I decided to stop perming my hair Today (August) I went in for an eyebrow wax and a trim. Eric N (I made an appointment with him, and absolutely recommend him - I'm pretty sure he's the manager) once again took great care of me. If he didn't remember me from my previous visit, he certainly faked it well! He was conversational, listened to what I wanted, and didn't get pushy with products. The eyebrow wax was literally the best I've had in years - I didn't know my brows could look so good! He kept the shape and fullness I had, which I asked him to do, but cleaned everything up so nicely. Thanks for a great experience!

After stating multiple times that I don't like deep, heavy bangs. I eventually agreed to a photo with a minimal bang and followed it up by placing my hand on my head and saying "ok, but I wouldn't want them to here or anything." She proceeded to give me literally half a head of bangs, almost two full inches behind the line I said was already beyond my comfort zone. Right before it was done, I was getting increasingly anxious with the plan and she challenged me with "what is your body saying?" I responded, "it's screaming no..." to which she quickly responded "well, I have a full body yes and I'm gonna go" and seconds later it was done. It wasn't that my communication was unclear and I'm still baffled why I didn't stand up and walk out, I've just NEVER been coerced by a stylist like that before! When I went for a repair haircut the new stylist heard my story and said, "let me guess, an Adeline?" Apparently she is know for this type of behavior, believing herself an artist who knows what you want better than you do. In the week since I've heard from several other's who were treated similarly and felt stunned into submission. I am going to regret visiting her salon for well over a year while this grows out. Pre and two posts. I wish I'd been warned, perhaps I'd have been less stunned into compliance.

But I was surprised by my negative experience when I went for a lash lift. When booking, the website lists the price as "starting at $60". Understandable, I figured there would be additional charges depending on what services you choose. No where in the booking process was a final price listed, nor was one provided to me when I arrived for my appointment. After my appointment, I discovered I had apparently be assigned a high level lash tech who would cost double what I had been expecting at that $60 price. When I sent an email to the manager, uncomfortable with the sudden switch up, she wrote me and admitted that they only had one lash tech at the moment. So no one was ever going to get the $60 price listed on their website - every single person who booked would be paying that higher price, without ever being told this was the case. Not only is this bait and switch illegal according to the FTC, it's just plain crummy business practice. Too bad, since all the ladies working there seemed lovely. If you go, just practice good Buyer Beware strategies and be aware a fast one might be pulled on you.

There was almost no small talk, they very clearly just wanted to get me in and out. They did manage to fit me in reasonably fast, just a 25 minute wait for a walk in. I killed time looking at a store next door. The cost of my cut was about $17, which considering the product might have actually been too much. I asked to have about 3 or 4 inches taken off so my hair would rest at my collar bone. I also asked to have my layers cleaned up. The stylist didn't bother to wash my hair, which is half of the reason I go to fantastic sams. All stylists in the past either cut your hair wet, or dry after washing and drying your hair for you. She cut my hair straight across and lifted my hair up to give random, choppy chunks that were supposed to be my 'layers'. They were very uneven. Some parts of my layers were drastically different in length. She only put 2 layers on one part of my head and 3 on other parts. She also didn't bother to properly feather/blend them in. I gently tried to express that the layers looked wrong but she said dismissed my concerns. She claimed my hair looked a little off because my color was faded, but I've been getting layers in my hair for about 14 years. I know how my hair should look. I was too socially anxious to outright say it was bad. It looked almost as bad as when I tried to cut my own bangs in middle school. I drove home, trying not to cry. My roommates noticed I was upset, and when I showed them my hair they agreed with all of my complaints. A friend of mine spent almost 2 hours fixing my hair for me. She managed to make it cute, and even though it's shorter than what I wanted I like what my friend did. My hair is now a little past my jaw instead of at my collar bone. Maybe I should have been more aggressive in my complaint, but that's just not the type of person I am. I don't think I'll come back to this location, even if money is tight. I feel bad leaving a one star so the cost and short waiting time give it a two.
