I got my first haircut by Gail she did a great job, so I went back to her for the second time. Wow what a difference in her haircut she gave me. This place deserves more than less a star, I booked an appointment with Boris and gave him the type of style I wanted (high skin fade blend scissor cut on top) and then he starts asking me about how short I wanted the sides and how long to leave on top. I've never been asked those questions before getting the same haircut I've been getting from my last barber so I was a little confused as to what he was trying to approach at. DID NOT blend the sides at all with the top of my hair, went WAYYY too high with the contours of my head and just did not meet expectations. Then after debating on what to do next after he already BUTCHERED MY HAIR, I decide to show him a picture of what I've gotten before with the same descriptions I've told my last barber at a different shop (I've never had to show a barber pictures before...) Then he starts saying that the picture I showed him is not what a high fade is and starts throwing in other descriptors saying that's a different haircut then what I asked for and then starts telling me to google what a high fade is AND THEN starts to tell me that what I was showing him pictures of are not "high fades" and are mid fades with tapers even though I literally googled "high fades". The waitlist at this place is ridiculous to book an appointment (2 weeks in advance). Do not come here!!! read more

Dank (I didn't want to leave a Yelp review but as it turns out i was overcharged given the entirety of my services yesterday). I can't go back to Bam Style. I was mistreated even after attending them for 3 years. I strongly encourage anybody going to Bam to not make the mistake of booking multiple services, even if you do it more than a month in advance. I made an appointment with Bam on February 8th, 2023, for March 20th yesterday. Dreadlocks services; Color+Detox and a Retwist which i did not recieve. With my deposit in advance i paid a total of $239 (50 deposit +2/3 services) There are Bam Stylists at Bam style who take on more than they handle, they lack professionalism, and if you call they can be misleading. Bam use to give confirmation phone calls and have stopped doing so becuase, and i quote "we aren't a business", so the only way to be reminded of my appointment was for me to call in the day of. I called 4 minutes after they opened their doors and was told that i should come in asap, we agreed I'd come in for my appointment before noon. It was 10:56 and 11:10 when my stylist texted me that she would leave if i didnt show up before noon, quote "make a choice about what you want the most because we won't have time for all of it". It was 11:30a when I came in with breakfast which i didn't get a chance to eat until after my detox but I tried to keep my spirits up until the very end of the appointment. My own stylist got her own service in the middle of our appointment. Her hair was washed while mine set as it was dyed. To my surprise, she must have underestimated how porous my hair is. The dye came out very faint. Our appointment ended around 3pm with two hours to spare. I decided to do my own retwist at home. It was time to pay when Bam Style's power went down. I decided to NOT leave the store and go over to Quick Twip as suggested by my stylist and spent the $3 ATM fee in their shop. I've been to this salon about 3-4 times and have gotten inconsistent haircuts. Every time I've came in for a cut, the stylists weren't focus on my haircut and were busy chatting with each other. They also have a really awful cancellation policy and prefer losing customers over accommodating them. The man who owns the business is also not friendly whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend getting your haircut here under any circumstances. There are plenty of better places to go in the area. read more

I personally think they lack professionalism. The place is a mess, too much bullshitting with their coworkers while you're in the chair... if you have an appointment, forget it...very inconsiderate, you'll sit there and wait while they bs with everyone. Today was the my last appointment, my stylist was way behind so I had to ask for someone else, which he squeezed me in...however, I got a speed cut for the same price as a regular cut...he couldn't spend any time with me because he had another appointment waiting. I like a salon over a chain... I was hoping this would work, but I honestly don't like going to such an unprofessional atmosphere. The quality is good if you get the right stylist. Not having been able to get a haircut in NYC before I left for Minnesota, I searched salons in Minnesota and based on their advertised use of my preferred hair product line (Moroccan Oil), I chose to call this place ahead of time and make an appointment for during my time in Duluth. The people on the phone were very friendly and I was happy to get an appointment that fit perfectly into my schedule. I arrived on time and while waiting about twenty minutes for Sage to finish with the previous client, I noticed all the NYC themed stuff on the walls. I asked about it; the owners have another location in Long Island and currently live in Queens (the neighborhood next to mine!). The place was busy; the staff AND clientele were wonderfully diverse and I reveled in the stories about life in Duluth, growing up in Duluth, pronouncing things in Duluth. Everyone working there seemed to thoroughly enjoy their jobs which imbued my visit with a kind of energy not often found in salons in NYC. The haircut? I have wavy hair and say the same thing to every stylist but no matter what every stylist hears/sees something different. Sage interpreted what I said very well. She ended up going a bit shorter than what I had intended but it's one of the best cuts I've ever gotten. Shorter than I wanted, sure, but I don't care because it's the shape I always want. She spent so much time on y cut and gave me so much attention, I'm THRILLED with all the layers and imagine I'll get my next cut at BAM Style in LI and tell them to do what Sage did. The photo doesn't do the cut justice because I don't have my usual styling products with me and so my hair's acting up a bit. But still, the cut works! It works with different hair products. It works after wearing a hat for awhile. Sage tells me it'll work as it grows out. And I believe her. An NYC experience better than any experience I've had getting my hair cut in actual NYC. read more

I have been here 3 times so far and I would have to say is that I feel very comfortable here. First, you can tell the staff has a lot of fun because they roast each other once in awhile! Outside of the ambience, the stylist are excellent. In the three times I've been there, I've had three different stylists and they've done a terrific job. I had my very thin short hair cut by Brendan today. He made an earlier cut by someone else look so much better. He is so careful, making sure he knew what I wanted. And when I was not sure, I asked him to go for it and he did! Perfect results. Very mellow personality and excellent skills. He made me feel good about myself and changed my life! read more

The absolute worst haircut I have ever gotten. Sicilia was inexperienced, flippant, and rude. I asked for 1/4 inch off the top (I have fairly long hair) but she heard take it down to 1/4 inch because she wasn't listening. Before I knew it she took off way too much and it was too late. She blamed me for not telling her "correct" directions. Her coworkers were no more help, including the manager, who never apologized or tried to make it up to me. I had heard good things about this place but now that I read the negative reviews I see those are accurate. These people are rude and Sicilia gave me the single worst haircut I have gotten in 31 years of life. I will never go back. read more

tl;dr: don't bother if you're not their ideal client I'm a low-maintenance person, but was looking for some simple style ideas, so went to Bam on the recommendation of a friend. When I got there, I explained that I was wondering if there were options for styling my hair that didn't involve a lot of work (don't want to spend time with a blowdryer, flat-iron, etc.). Basically the answer was "no", which was ok, as I understand my laziness is a huge impediment, and didn't expect some magic solution (I'd rather sleep in than have perfect hair). I was still scheduled for a cut, so he continued with that, even though we both knew I wasn't their ideal client. It would have been fine if I was sent out the door with a speed-trim, but instead I got prothletised about the benefits of "looking better". He spent waayyy too much time trying to convince me to put more effort into my looks, and even negged my eyebrows, stopping multiple times to say he could "fix" them with shaping (they aren't bad!). The thing that really pissed me off though was when he asked what type of shampoo and conditioner I used, and I said it was some standard brand name stuff. He sounded disgusted, said was horrible and would destroy my hair. When I declined the offer to buy their expensive stuff, another stylist pointed at her dreadlocks and in an ominous tone said that she used the same shampoo and it gave dreadlocks. It was meant to be a warning, but it pissed me off, as 1) it was condescending as hell, and 2) it was just factually incorrect! I looked at her long, tight, smooth dreads and wanted to say that her style was actually finely-crafted and maintained, and there was *no way* that bad shampoo resulted in her perfect style. I left there missing some cash and an inch of hair, but still had my eyebrows, beauty routine, and most importantly, pride and self worth! read more

My sons have ethnic hair and I live up on the iron range, I would never trust anyone in that area to cut their hair. However, Andrew from BAM is AMAZING! He cuts their hair just how I want it done. If you have ethnic hair I know sometimes it's a struggle I this area- but go to Andrew and you won't be disappointed! It seemed like a salon for guys, and the one girl working there was rude and seemed annoyed to be there - getting paid to do what she was there for. She also did a half-ass job on the cut. They do hair for everyone - men, women, kids. Even shaves for men. Finding someone who can do your hair and have it look great is hard. Deciding to go to Bam is easy. read more

I was visiting Duluth for a wedding this past weekend. I booked an appointment at Bam Style for a wash and style. I was traveling from out of town so had a different area code than Duluth. When I showed up to my appointment the gentleman sitting at the front desk informed me that he didn't have my reservation on file. When I showed him my appointment confirmation email he said that they tried to call me to cancel my appointment since no one was available for my apportionment. I booked this appointment a week in advance. They supposedly called me the day before the appointment to tell me this. When I asked what number he called to cancel my reservation he said he wasn't the one who called me.... I asked him to look up the number he called so I could confirm he called the right number and he repeated that he wasn't the one who made the call. The front desk attendant was so rude to me and sent me away after I had a made an appointment a week in advance! He made me feel like like I was in the wrong when really they are the ones who had an opening and secured my reservation online. He never once apologized for the inconvenience and was so unbelievable rude to me I walked away stunned. If you are an out of town guest I WOULD NOT BOOK A RESERVATION HERE! They have terrible customer service!!!!! read more

Horrible experience at BAM. I originally went in looking for a new stylist I asked to be scheduled with an experienced stylist that was good with color I was told I was scheduled with the manager who was very experienced. I instead got a newbie who clearly was learning and did not have exp. I told her I wanted my hair brown with some lowlights. My appt was at 330. I left the shop at 10:30 pm. Yes I was in the chair for 7 hours. I had bleach in my hair I'm guessing 4 to 5 hrs. I thought it was color and that she was just very slow at foiling so I was not overly concerned. Eventually another stylist came over and talked to her and they both began taking out the foils and putting water on each piece I'm assuming to stop the process. When she rinsed me out my hair was pure white. I was told continually don't worry, I can put a rinse it it, we are going to cut off the damaged parts etc. obviously my hair was stripped of all its color AKA FRIED HAIR. The owner happened to be in that day from New York . By 8 pm (closing time) he began to investigate why I was still in the chair 5 hrs. Long story short he took over recolored my hair, conditioned and did what he could. Offered me three free conditioning treatments one per month. I paid 165.00 for this, not knowing at the time this was only the beginning of the nightmare. The color he put washed out in a couple weeks. I was told by the manager it was because my hair was stripped and therefore the color did not stay. Gray showing through, hair color now orange and dried out feeling like straw. Spoke to the manager who assured me to come back to her and she would take care of me and do the best to keep it conditioned. I was told " we don't want you walking around with your hair like that and having people know that kind of work happened here " I went back for 2 free conditionings. When I went back for the third I was told I had to pay. My hair continues to break off due to the extreme damage. I have lost half my hair. It used to be super thick, curly and way past my shoulders. Approx 6 inches or more had to be cut off, and the rest keeps breaking off so my hair now is super thin and getting shorter every week Went in today for another appt with the manager as she was the one who "promised to take care of me". And yes I was paying for all the services and tipping well! Today she tells me the damage and thin hair can not still be from the damage created by them at the shop as it has been 6 months. Lol well yes it was. The only healthy hair I have is my new growth. She was very rude. Actually rolling her eyes and telling me to go see a dr because maybe it's a thyroid problem. I informed her I am a nurse and I am very healthy. Everything is healthy except my hair. I told her I wasn't there to argue and actually got up from the chair and told her I was leaving. A snippy "okay" was her reply. I drove 60 miles on bad roads to get there looking forward to it at least temporarily looking better and ended up leaving because the manager was so rude to me. I called the owner in New York to report how customers are being treated in the Duluth store. I was offered more free conditioning treatments for my hair for the damage that was done. I asked for my money to be refunded which was denied. He apologized for being treated so poorly by his manager today. However I did not receive an apology from her. At the very least an apology and a free cut and color may have helped but no not even that. Refund denied. No apologies from stylist who originally damaged my hair do severely and none from the rude manager today. If you go there MAKE sure you get a stylist who has a good reputation. I know there are some there that are great and know what they are doing but some should clearly not be employed there. The place is not the same without the three brothers. read more
