Fine for men over 40 who just needs trims and a basic cut. They don't really appeal to anyone needing a more modern cut or specific style. Asked if they did beards and he didn't shape it at all just buzzed down my neck. I would consider this to be a good barber, might as well have a friend do it. read more

So, I've visited this establishment by way of Portland, Oregon-"the land of dapper" and I can confirm you will not find a better place to get your hair done than Lakeside-anywhere.The barbers are like translators for the vision you desire and do it all with the general blue collar vibe that has gotten lost in the current climate of your typical barber. Visiting Duluth, looking for a haircut. Tried Lakeside based on the 1 or 2 reviews already posted. I would have told you, based on my past experiences, that a 15-20 min. haircut can't be good. But that's about what it was taking per customer and it was the best haircut I've had in a while. If you want a real barber school-trained barber, and not a stylist or cosmetologist, try Lakeside. Pleasant atmosphere and met several friendly folks. Jim is the new proprietor, currently working pretty much alone, but said he has two young men he's convinced to go to barber school who plan to join him soon. I was up fishing in the local area and wanted to grab a trim so I asked my buddy, John Fehnel at Great Lakes Flyshop where I should go. He told me the shop just down the street (that would be Superior St.). So I walked in and sat down. The shop has three chairs and three really nice gentlemen to cater to the very lucky individual in each chair. After a short wait, it was my turn. Understand that I've no idea what to really expect from any of the barbers here so faith alone has taken over here. Well Brian was my barber and he's just a really down-to-earth guy. I told him it's time to go Peaky Blinders style. He hasn't watched the show so no real idea of what I wanted so out comes the phone and a bit of good 'ol surfin. He's got the idea now and off he goes with the clipper and scissors. My God man! He nails it to the T!!! I'm a bit older (570 and I will tell you with ALL CERTAINTY... Brian has a gift!!! This is THE BEST haircut I have ever had in my life. Granted I don't have a cranial forest anymore but he worked with what I've got and I am beyond impressed. So nowhere will I go except for the Lakeside Barbers. This means I get to travel to Duluth every month and grab a seat at this place. It's really only about 2hrs 15min up from Stillwater so an easy drive up. Damn, these guys are all just killin' it up there.
