After stating multiple times that I don't like deep, heavy bangs. I eventually agreed to a photo with a minimal bang and followed it up by placing my hand on my head and saying "ok, but I wouldn't want them to here or anything." She proceeded to give me literally half a head of bangs, almost two full inches behind the line I said was already beyond my comfort zone. Right before it was done, I was getting increasingly anxious with the plan and she challenged me with "what is your body saying?" I responded, "it's screaming no..." to which she quickly responded "well, I have a full body yes and I'm gonna go" and seconds later it was done. It wasn't that my communication was unclear and I'm still baffled why I didn't stand up and walk out, I've just NEVER been coerced by a stylist like that before! When I went for a repair haircut the new stylist heard my story and said, "let me guess, an Adeline?" Apparently she is know for this type of behavior, believing herself an artist who knows what you want better than you do. In the week since I've heard from several other's who were treated similarly and felt stunned into submission. I am going to regret visiting her salon for well over a year while this grows out. Pre and two posts. I wish I'd been warned, perhaps I'd have been less stunned into compliance.

I had no idea…read morethey existed until my mom/aunt/cousin all told me it was awesome....but they've been around for 4 years, so I thought it must just be that I was really unobservant (and I didn't live in the area). I got a great cut here. I have really thick, curly hair. Even though I requested a straight style cut, she made sure that it would still look good if I wore it curly, which I didn't ask for, but I reaaaally appreciate! I asked her some product questions, and she recommended some products that she doesn't even sell! So I knew I could really take her advice. Two reasons it gets four instead of five stars: When she was done, I asked her to make my bangs just a little shorter, and she took off about 1/2 an inch, when I was thinking more like 1/4 inch. So they were a little awkwardly short, but it's partly my fault for not being really specific. The second reason is because the location is not super beautiful. It's defintely nice, but it doesn't feel like a luxury. But I suppose that is maybe why the haircuts are only $30!

Two of my nails had bubbles in them. I made her fix one of them, which she did with no attitude. She was very sweet. The guy who did my pedicure was also very sweet. Both very nice kids, which is actually the only reason I gave two stars instead of one. My pedicure was slightly better than my manicure, just because he didn't file my toenails, so they didn't have the chance to be as ragged as the nails on my hands. Crooked French tips again. There was a foot and leg massage involved in the whole thing. He used some aveda lotion I think, and it left my legs and feet very greasy. By the next day, the paint on my nails was already chipping. They used tons of different products...I don't know what all. All kinds of primers and stuff. For nothing. It was all just to give you a "spa" experience, and the end result that I came there for (painted nails) was totally shoddy. $24 for manicure, I don't know how much the pedicure was. Boooooo! Terrible job! They're really nice kids, and they put effort into it, but I think they just don't know what they're doing. Terrible manicure. Terrible, I say!

I'd had a facial once before at a prestigious salon in Chicago's famous Watertower Place, and it was not nearly as good as the one I received right here in lil' ol' Duluth, MN at Rue 48! The aesthetician's fingers worked their magic on my face, neck, and shoulders; and although at that Chicago salon I could not properly relax because they hard sell peddled their products at every turn, the aesthetician at Rue 48 in Canal Park was respectful of my boundaries. I had lots of skincare products I had just purchased that I loved and had been using for a long time and my skin was in good condition so she showed me without pushing one bit. The facial made my good skin glow in the best way (as a complement to my glowing personality hahaha!) I'm about to book another appointment, this time for a pedicure. I'll let you know how it goes. Canal Park itself is a must-see on the Duluth waterfront with myriad places of note to please your palate, whet your whistle, shop till you drop, sight-see and more. The stylist apparently had 20 years of experience, so my daughter went ahead and booked an appointment. At the start of her appointment she discussed with the stylist want she wanted and even showed her a photo of how she wanted it cut, (the photo was her hair from a previous haircut at a different salon). The stylist BUTCHERED her hair. I know some hair stylist will cut curly hair dry, but this stylist didn't even look at her curl pattern she just cut inches off her hair. It looks nothing like the photo she shared when she arrived. She is in tears over this horrendous haircut. All of her beautiful curls are GONE. Definitely will not return and do not recommend this salon.
