Oh my, I really wanted this place to be good. We just moved to Albany a few months ago. I love great BBQ. Unfortunately for me, this wasn't close to great or even good. Personally, I've been smoking meat for over 40 years. I truly understand the work that goes into creating the perfect smoked masterpiece. I ordered a $50. Combo. The pulled pork was good. The chicken was super dry, it was overcooked. The potato salad and slaw were flavorless. Overall, I was overwhelmed with excitement for the opportunity to eat some great food and I was completely let down with the lack of flavor and appearance. I was underwhelmed to be quite honest with you all out there in YELPland. I was told there is much better BBQ out here in Kentucky and I plan on finding those BBQ landmarks. I honestly can't recommend Hunter's. For me personally, they pretty much let me down. I really wanted my neighborhood smokehouse to be stellar, but it just didn't work out. read more

We have eaten here a few times. Every time is delicious. The food is always hot and flavorful. They offer both Regular BBQ sauce & Hot BBQ sauce. They only accept cash. They do have an on-site ATM if you need cash. We have had the same cashier each time...not super friendly but not rude. The feel of the restaurant is like ordering from an indoor food truck. This olace has some of the best BBQ around. We stopped for a quick bit, the Swamp cabbage is a true art to be hold. Everyone of the employees are professional and polite. If you are in the vicinity of Albany, ky or visiting Dale Hollow Lake or Lake Cumberland, I highly recommend this place. Awesome place to eat and atmosphere. The Chessy pick tail is unique. The pulled pork sandwich was on point , great flavor touch of heat in it their hot sauce was very tasty as well. Cowboy beans were delicious as well. Everything was great ! Where do I even start, the pork shoulder tasted like it was cooked in the oven. It was poorly cooked. For starters, If you have to serve shoulder with BBQ sauce, caked all over it, you need to learn to season and prep your meet properly. The "Tater" salad, tastes like they walked into to the local dollar store and bought a tub and, The mayo slaw (think they forgot the mayo), was as dry as a popcorn fart. The sauces taste like A1 and Sweet Baby Rays mixed together. Terrible all around. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. Save your money and go to McDonald's. read more

Good wood smoked BBQ, I was hoping to try their Brisket but it is only offered on Friday's. I had the pulled pork plate, the pork was juicy and had the sauced mixed in. A perfect portion. Tater Salad- was dang good. Swamp Cabbage- I was really good as well. Definitely worth the stop. read more

Wow, Hunter's BBQ really outdid themselves. The brisket? More like pot roast in witness protection--couldn't find any signs of smoke or flavor if it had a GPS. The baked beans tasted like they cracked open a can of off-brand sadness and warmed it up with a side of disappointment. And the slaw? Dry enough to make the Sahara jealous. If you're looking to experience what BBQ shouldn't taste like, this is your spot. I'd rather chew on my shoe. One star for the bravery of calling this food. read more

My coworker's and I stopped here after a long days work. It has a very nice interior setup. They have an extensive menu too For those of you wondering, pig tails are curly potato wedges. The pulled chicken is a little spicy. The pulled pork was awesome! I know a guy that admitted that he plans his trips to Albany on Thursday Friday and Saturday so he can go to hunters for lunch. Five stars for the atmosphere and speed of which the food is served, but 2 stars for really awful brisket. I'm used to Texas BBQ, so when I got a plate of what they called brisket, I was grossed out. This wasnt smoked brisket, it was watery, POT ROAST. Parts of it was tender but other parts were tough and flavorless. (What is it with restaurants in KY not using ANY spices?!!) I had to pour some nasty, watery BBQ sauce over mine to eat it as I didn't want to waste it. After a while, I had to give up because I just wasnt in the mood for pot roast. Brisket should be smoked and sliced, not served in big, shredded chunks. It's unbelievable that people think this is legit. The potato salad was very good and the beans were ok. They could have had more flavor. My husband got the pulled pork which was tender, but flavorless. Not even any salt. We ordered their little fried apple pies for dessert and they were ok. The filling was delicious, but the homemade crust was wierd tasting. Should have added butter or used butter flavored crisco. Idk what they used, but it tasted bland and very odd. Maybe there was something in the oil. The young lady working at the counter was very unfriendly and snooty. Not sure what her problem was. When I asked a question, I could almost hear a dial tone from her barely sentient expression. We wont eat here again. The atmosphere is great, but the food isn't worth it. read more

Drove from Monticello to Albany to get Carry out from Hunters. We have always gotten 2 meat or 3 meal plates of all pulled pork for the last 2 years including a month ago. Finally got them on the phone when we were almost there. Person I talked to asked Vicky if this was a thing and she said no! I had only started with my first order and was advised we had to get different meats, and they were out of tenderloin and shoulder. I had several orders plus a order of ribs. Not sure what had changed, but will not go back!!! Very disappointing. read more

However, we had the most delicious pork, swamp cabbage, and baked beans! Mouth watering is a good way to describe it. The atmosphere is a hunters paradise. Extremely friendly and fast service too Picnic style seating with plenty of tables outside if gets too crowded, it seems to be a popular place on a Friday evening. 6/10/2016 Drove from Danville,ky to eat some BBQ at Hunter for ribs. Wife had 6 ribs plate with their french fries and mayonnaise slaw: fries nothing speceal just a trendy name, standerd southen cold slaw, ribs were very good good bite, with deep smoke ring, just one surprise membrane left on rack made rib chewy on the bite through. I had 2 meat plate BBQ smoked chicken and pulled pork, swamp slaw, fries, pulled pork was not a pure pulled pork product it appeared to be pre bathed with Hunters BBQ sauce, it was very good, I being from NC am usually sceptical when I see Q dregded in sauce, I NC this means you are eating Q from yesterdays Q that has been moistened with apple juice to kerp it from turning and allowes it to hold longer, if you dredge you are surely hiding something. Smoked chicken breast came to the table harder then the table it was sitting on I could not eat the chicken very airid and old product, I was very surprised that it was sent through the window by the owner. We will not recomend Hunters if you are a BBQ CONSUMER from the Carolinas, but in KY we have discoverd that Kentuckynens like their BBQ swiming in BBQ sauce. Realy liked the swamp slaw tasted like a heated chow-chow , could have eaten plate of it. read more
