We were on a roadtrip from Louisville, KY to Chattanooga, TN taking the backroads when we stopped in to Brazen Que and it was worth the drive to discover this amazing BBQ joint. Among the best smoked meats I ever ate. The food is amazing. We ordered a brisket and a pulled pork sandwich with beans and mac n cheese. The pork was among the best I ever had. The flavor of the rub and smoke goes through all the meat. The brisket was tender, meaty, pleasantly salty and peppery. The beans were house made and the sauce was a little thin and the mac n cheese was very creamy. The homemade sauces were epic. The counter service was helpful and our food was ready right away. The place is small. More like a roadside joint than a restaurant. It can barely fit 30 people. Minus one star for not having blues music! read more

I knew when I walked into Brazen Que I was going to like this place...inscribed on the wall was the phrase made famous by a great Pitmaster and friend...John Brotherton "Show up late...lose weight". At the cutting board I met Brock who made a great first impression for this business. Friendly, welcoming, and a solid cutter...he gave me a sample of the brisket and I was SOLD! I went with brisket, jalapeño sausage (note this is a mild version), turkey with Mac & Cheese and Mexican Street Corn as sides. The brisket is tender, moist, great bark, and solid flavor...this would give the BBQ joints in TX a run for their money! Loved the turkey and found out they use honey on it too; the combination of a peppery bark and the honey was a great match. This would be a treat of a bird for the holiday table. The sausage may lack kick BUT not flavor, nice texture, good cheddar and jalapeño flavors. The sides are solid, and you can't go wrong with either one. The Banana Pudding is deeeeelicious! I also got to meet Nick (owner and pitmaster) who had me try their bratwurst sausage...it is impressive. It can be difficult getting the sausage texture right and these were spot-on. Brock is their sausage chef and on the agenda for next month...think Southwestern egg roll flavors. Enjoyed talking BBQ with Nick and Brock...they are both very knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. While this may be a 90-minute hike for me, the food and staff make it well worth the drive. I'll be back in June to try some of Brock's newest sausage creation! P.S. I rarely leave reviews but this place is the real deal. I have visited BBQ restaurants all over such as Franklins, Terry Blacks, Truth, and Big Bob Gibson's to name a few famous ones. Brazen Que's brisket is a good as Terry Black's or other famous Texas BBQ spots. I tried the jalapeño cheddar link, smoked chicken, and the pork belly. All absolute bangers!! My wife and I split several sides. All were great; especially the grits. The banana pudding is addictive and I appreciate the free water to wash down all this deliciousness. I got barbecue from Brazen Que on a Thursday morning for the first time. I was back in line again the next morning again. The carver saw me and asked, "It was that good, huh?" Yes, sir, it was that good. I'm not sure if there's such a person that still exists, but if there's a person that still exists that thinks all barbecue is the same and it's just the recipes that slightly differentiate them, take them to Brazen Que. Brazen Que proves that there are different levels to barbecue and that there's a huge difference between regular barbecue and craft barbecue, which is what Brazen Cue is. Craft barbecue is when a pitmaster understands how every component of the process affects the meat. You can tell the people at Brazen Cue understand barbecue on that level and it shows in the food. The brisket is the best in the state. I don't even think there's a close second that I've had in Tennessee yet. The sides are amazing. The wings are amazing. The sleeper is the banana pudding. It's the best banana pudding I've ever had and I used to work right by magnolia bakery in NYC. If a place gets something like banana pudding this right, you know they have a committed attention to detail and won't be missing on the bigger items on the menu. Attended the grand opening of this restaurant yesterday. The line was out the door for a couple of hours as there were plenty of people interested in giving this place a try. Let me preface this review by saying this is NOT your normal BBQ place you're going to find in Tennessee. This is Texas craft BBQ. I enjoy a good BBQ sauce, but if the meat is actually smoked right and well, you really don't need any sauce. The smokey flavor and seasoned "bark" provides all the additional flavor you're really going to need. They've got plenty to choose from while keeping the menu simple. Their smoked meats include beef brisket, pulled pork, pork spare ribs, and turkey breast. Their available sides include: baked beans, mac & cheese, cole slaw, and jalapeño cheesy grits. For dessert? Banana pudding, but most likely not like you've had before and you're going to love it! Speaking of availability, that's the key here (also following Texas influence)... Their hours are "until 4pm or SOLD OUT" and when they're out. They're out for the day! You see craft BBQ doesn't allow you to just throw another brisket, pork butt, or rack of ribs in the smoker and have it ready. The brisket alone? Normally smoked for about 12 hours the previous day. The sides are so good, they're going to go quick as well! Do yourself a favor. Come and try it out and plan to get there early if you really want to make sure you get everything you want. Good bbq! This is an order-at-the-counter place with a small seating area which was busy when we arrived for lunch at 1:30. The bbq was good by I thought my pulled pork was overly fatty. Don't get me wrong, fat is a good thing in bbq but it needs to be tempered in a single serving. The 2 sauces were decent but the hot one had too much vinegar for my taste. I'm sure others like it just fine. The pickled onions were a nice change but I'd like the choice of pickled or fresh. I also needed a slice of white bread to top it off but no bread of any kind is offered. Too bad cause I really miss a slice with my meal. There was a lot of food on the plate for the price. I'm not a fan of the baked beans I tried but I'd order double coleslaw next time. My partner had a carnivore platter. Great meal but he was forced to purchase a side or 2 separately. For the price charged, they should thrown in at least some coleslaw or beans. We will definitely return and explore the menu further and update if needed. Fill yer belly at Brazen Que! I'm visiting my son here in Livingston Tennessee,we are from California and when we came in Wednesday night the lady at the hotel tells us there used to a good Mexican restaurant next door,, she said the owners are from Texas so it must be good, it wasn't. Food was barely warm. The cheese on my Texas Tater never melted even with the brisket on it. The tater I don't think was finished being cooked. It was hard and I needed a knife to cut into it. My wife's Pulled Pork sandwich was the same. She did like the beans. She also had the Mexican corn. She said it was so bad she threw into the garbage. And then there's the BBQ sauces. Sweet and real sweet. No heat anywhere. Service. What service? You walk in and order and you're handed your food and that's it. We had to figure where to get our drinks. This was our second trip. First trip we went there on a Wednesday. Door said they were open from 11 to 3. We got there at 2. Closed. People inside but the door was locked. Today it was st least open. We've had BBQ in many areas. The best was Terry Blacks in Austin, TX. We won't be back. Not worth the hour and a half drive. It's not even worth a 15 minute drive. Gave it two stars. Wow! So thankful we stopped by Brazen Que on our way to Chattanooga. Nick and Kendra, the owners and their staff were amazing. We were greeted immediately by Kendra and Derrick. After a little decision making we decided to go with The Carnivore, which was a sampler of their smoked meats (brisket, turkey, pulled pork, 2 ribs) along with one of the house made sausages, Mac & cheese, slaw, jalapeno grits and banana pudding. Everything was great and they had amazing sauces just in case you think you need it. This meat doesn't really even need sauced but I am a fan of sauces.
