Really disappointed in the food. We liked the garlic chicken best, but the more we ate of everything the worse it tasted. I wasn't a fan of the teri sauce and the beef and katsu chicken were served cold. The mac and cheese had a chunky texture that i wasn't a fan of. Service was good for one employee working, but he wasn't the friendliest to us... a guy who came in after us must have been a friend because he wasn't very attentive to him asking if he needs anything else frequently. It was clean inside and the world cup was playing which was nice. I usually prefer the local spots, but wouldn't recommend this one. I loved this place after *we got the food*... it was SO HOT inside and low energy, that my family almost asked to leave but I wanted to try. The service started slow because it was just the owner working but we waited. He was super nice but sweating, working alone and trying to do everything all at once. After I ordered, and waited 15 min to pay while the food was finally cooking, the help showed up. Recommend the Keiki bowl for adults and kids, ANY of the Hawaiian sodas and pretty much all the meats we had. I DO NOT recommend the crazy sweet Hawaiian Lemonade - especially for $4 - go with the can for $2.50. Also, they were out of their only dessert (malasadas).... bummed my 7 yr. old. We received great customer service, the guys working were friendly and conversing with my man. We are originally from Hawaii so it was cool to know that we're from Hawaii also. I tried the furikake chicken and teriyaki grilled beef, the beef was nice and tender and had good teriyaki flavor. My man got the furikake chicken and kalbi, the furikake chicken was flavorful and crispy. The kalbi was marinated well and the portions were good. We also got the Lau Lau, it was a little dry but it was pretty good when pairing it with the chilli pepper water. The guava cake and poke was okay, I feel like it would have been really good if we had it fresh. The containers said it was made the day before. This review is mostly for the service, but also for the food which I'll explain. I placed an order online for lunch one day and got a rice bowl. It has up to two options for the meats, so I chose curry katsu and kalbi beef. A few minutes later I get a call from them; the guy was super short and told me I can't have two meats with the rice bowl and I can only pick one. So I tell him to go with the beef then, and he just hangs up without a "thank you" or "goodbye". I pick up my order, also no "welcome in" or even a hello. Just asked my name and handed me the bag and went back to the counter. I return to my office and open my bowl to teriyaki beef..... literally the worst thing to get (imo) at a Hawaiian place. It was dry, and the only saving grace was the huge amount I got. So overall....my order was wrong, what I got instead was not good, and there was no aloha spirit. I should've taken a photo, but compared to all the other photo reviews, I felt like the 2 meat plate I ordered was very sparse. Half a scoop of Mac salad, and a very small portion of vegetables. I had SUCH HIGH HOPES for this place. Born and raised in Hawaii. Had been seeing this restaurant posted on a few Hawaiians in Utah pages. Treated my Brother and his family to dinner last night. We wanted to have authentic Hawaiian food as a family. First off, the restaurant is way too small for the insanely LOUD live music they had on a Friday night. When I stepped into the restaurant the music was blaring and instantly put me off. It wasn't even good live music to be honest. In addition to the live music, the environment of the restaurant was chaotic at best. The Chef (or Owner I'm not too sure who he was) was barking orders at his staff which added to the feeling of chaos. Ordering was difficult as we were all shouting to be heard above the awful live music. Trash cans were overflowing and so previous diners had just left their food containers on the tables. I was also looking forward to their Luau Plate - only available on Fridays - as I had seen it advertised and posted so many times. The entire plate itself was mediocre at best. The Chicken Long Rice was delicious. That's about it. The Lau Lau was on the smaller side and the meat was very dry inside. The poi and Lomi Salmon were also delicious though. I definitely won't be ordering it again. Not even sure if we would visit this restaurant in the future. Aunty's Hawaiian is much better. The Natin But Grindz food truck is much more authentic and deliciious. Maybe their quality has just gone downhill recently because I see several 5 Star reviews on here from before? read more

I ordered 2 musibi and a poke bowl, tho it was a bit over priced for what I received the poke was by far the best thing I ordered. The spam slices were cut thin and were burnt a little, there was a little too much crunchy onion on the poke, and again for the prices of everything I wish we got more food. Fairly busy around dinner time, but we were able to get a table. I was first impressed with the number of meat options available. There's quite a selection. I've heard great things about the furikake garlic chicken, so knew I needed to try that. Also tried the grilled kalbi beef. Both were really tasty. Especially loved the garlic chicken. I even tried the Mac salad, which I am super picky about and won't eat at most places. I actually ate all of this! The service here was very friendly and quick and the restaurant seemed very clean. We got our food just minutes after ordering. The rice was a bit wet and the Kalbi didn't taste like it had been grilled. It kind of just tasted like teriyaki beef. An adorable ~6 year old took my order. She was very professional and that's how I treated her. I ordered to eat-in; chicken teriyaki with two sides. I chose mixed vegetables & potato salad. The food came in takeout containers. I don't know if this was an error or if that's how they plate all their food. By mistake they gave me rice & mixed vegetables. I asked for the potato salad instead, and they gave it to me, but since the rice was already in my container they told me to keep it as well (no extra charge). The chicken teriyaki was fine. It didn't break new ground, but it didn't need to. The macaroni salad was terrific - some of the best I've had. I detest over-sweet macaroni salad and this was spot on in every way so bumped them up a point. The mixed vegetables were pretty much just broccoli. I don't like broccoli but I didn't ask first so that's on me, not them. I ate some of it so I can report if you like broccoli this was nice al dente broccoli, fresh & bright green. The rice was just white rice. I didn't eat much because I was full from the other parts of my meal. A huge hawaiian guy (possibly the owner) was laughing and yelling across the room to some other guests who bantered back. I didn't mind but I suppose if you're really shy or sensitive it might bother you. I will come again when I want a cheap decent meal but I'll ask what the stirfry veggies are next time. read more

The inside was great and very cool. It was inviting and chill at the same time. When I went there, they were even live singing which was awesome! The staff was friendly and helpful. He offered good information as well for the right timing to get Garlic Chicken. I think some more smiles could have made it just that much better if an experience. The katsu was great and moist while the outside was crispy. The sauce was also pretty good. The pork was also delicious as well. The teriyaki sauce here is probably the best I've had and is a bit thick which tells me it's a quality teriyaki. It didn't disappoint at all. The Mac salad was ok but I'm not the biggest fan. I might suggest a pinch more pepper for me personally in the salad. The price is a bit high though. It was about $19 and the food was great. I just don't like that high of a price tag personally. The mac salad needed more mayo, cook the noodles longer, not al dente, and omit the frozen peas and carrots. Laulau was dry, needed fat in the pork. Teriyaki meat needs to soak a bit longer. The grill is over a chest high counter so you could see what they were doing if you were standing close by. Also the store manager was singing along with the radio as he was working. These guys are awesome! A few weeks ago, 4 of my siblings and I stopped by with our spouses and kids while my siblings were in town. We took up probably 2/3 of the seats, but it was perfect. We are half Samoan and lived in Hawaii for several years, so we know plate lunch. Hungry Hawaiian was delicious. The people working there were so nice and everything was fresh and ono. Our favorites were the teri beef, teri chicken, the musubi, and the guava cake. They also have some delicious vegetables that you can choose as a side. That's not as common for a plate lunch place, but the veggies were really good and a welcome Then last night I had a little party with some neighbors. I made the mistake of telling my friends the menu (teri chicken)...and then I didn't feel like making it myself anymore. I reached out to Hungry Hawaiian only a day before. I did not give them enough notice, but they were so sweet and made an exception. We had a full pan of teriyaki chicken, a full pan of rice, and a guava cake. I can't believe I didn't find this place sooner! The only downside is they are closed on Sundays. When we walked in we were greeted by life Hawaiian music being played by the family of the business owners and their kids. This set the stage for a delicious, authentic Hawaiian meal that is amazing! Several members of their Ohana wee present, including a toddler who immediately became fast friends with my twin toddlers and had a blast playing with each other while we enjoyed our meal!
