    Rice Bowl
    Bethany W.

This review is mostly for the service, but also for the food which I'll explain. I placed an order online for lunch one day and got a rice bowl. It has up to two options for the meats, so I chose curry katsu and kalbi beef. A few minutes later I get a call from them; the guy was super short and told me I can't have two meats with the rice bowl and I can only pick one. So I tell him to go with the beef then, and he just hangs up without a "thank you" or "goodbye". I pick up my order, also no "welcome in" or even a hello. Just asked my name and handed me the bag and went back to the counter. I return to my office and open my bowl to teriyaki beef..... literally the worst thing to get (imo) at a Hawaiian place. It was dry, and the only saving grace was the huge amount I got. So overall....my order was wrong, what I got instead was not good, and there was no aloha spirit. Not what you want when you're getting Hawaiian food....

Soo good, seriously the best hawaiian food i've had! Definitely get the spicy poke bowl

The service was great, friendly welcoming the restaurant was clean and organized. With the food is was alright. I ordered 2 musibi and a poke bowl, tho it was a bit over priced for what I received the poke was by far the best thing I ordered. The spam slices were cut thin and were burnt a little, there was a little too much crunchy onion on the poke, and again for the prices of everything I wish we got more food. But it's nice to have a poly shop so close to where I work

I usually find a lot of Hawaiian food to be overrated, so I wasn't sure what Hungry Hawaiian could add. It's a cute, quaint little place. Fairly busy around dinner time, but we were able to get a table. I was first impressed with the number of meat options available. There's quite a selection. I've heard great things about the furikake garlic chicken, so knew I needed to try that. Also tried the grilled kalbi beef. Both were really tasty. Especially loved the garlic chicken. I even tried the Mac salad, which I am super picky about and won't eat at most places. I actually ate all of this! The workers were gracious and helpful and checked on us to make sure all was going well. I would definitely come back here.

The service here was very friendly and quick and the restaurant seemed very clean. We got our food just minutes after ordering. The rice was a bit wet and the Kalbi didn't taste like it had been grilled. It kind of just tasted like teriyaki beef. However, I loved the kalua pork as it was moist and tender and packed with flavor. The starving student card offers a BOGO deal here which is wonderful as menu items are around 15 dollars each for a 1 meat plate.

What a beautiful quaint place this was! The decor inside was modern yet warm. Impressed by the food quality this place served. My favorite was the Lau Lau - pork wrapped in taro leaves and steamed, with a side of rice. It was the most flavorful (yet simple) Hawaiian dish I've tasted - takes me back instantly to Hawaii! Can't wait to come back and have Lau Lau again!

I usually keep my distance from Hawaiian BBQ joints because they're relatively low quality and lack flavor. The Hungry Hawaiian was a pleasant surprise! The food was delicious and the staff was super friendly. I had the teriyaki chicken with a side of rice and veggies. The chicken was delicious! The rice and veggies were normal, nothing special but not bad. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the price. It seems a tad steep for what you're getting, but that's just my opinion.

Pleasantly surprised! Their mac salad is one of my favorites in Utah. It's very pepper-y, and I don't even love pepper but I love this stuff. Everything was delicious, but another standout for me was the guava cake! It had a good punch of guava flavor and was very fluffy.

Loved the food here!! It's in the pricy end but the food is tasty. We tried the furikake garlic chicken, teriyaki chicken, kuala pork, and the loco moco. All the meats were good but my favorite was the chicken and kuala pork. Also try their sauces!! Love that the meal comes with a musubi.

No matter your reason, at some point you will end up in the Cougareat, hungry and ready for some good, quick food. If you're into Hawaiian style foods and are willing to pay more than, say, Subway, then Aloha Plate is an excellent choice. There may be a few more things you're wondering about: Is it a little pricey? Yes. Is it worth it to pay a little extra to exchange the plain white rice to fried rice? Yes. Is it good to share? Yes! Get the 2 meat combo and you'll get a little more variety as well as 2 scoops of rice. Which is the best meat? The pineapple chicken all the way. It's breaded and fried and covered in a sweet pineapple sauce. Is the service quick? Although nobody will ever beat Chick-fil-A, these guys don't leave you waiting long. Should I put extra sauces on? Oh yeah. If you don't douse your meal in the soy sauce next to the chopsticks you're not doing it right. Aloha Plate has a lot to offer! When at BYU, it's definitely worth your time.

Dining area here is pretty small, but the main dishes are pretty solid in comparison to the other places. They have recently added musubi to the menu, finally, which is great, except it comes in various forms of plastic and is cold, which is a lot less great and sometimes mushes it. This particular place has it in a baggie, which is fine and all well and good, but I generally wind up taking it out of the plastic and putting it on top of whatever I ordered, trying in vain to warm it up at least slightly. Again, this is to varying effect, but I'm glad they have the musubi at all. No furikake on it, but it does seem to have perhaps some sort of blackened seeds on it, sesame I'm assuming. Anyway, these are getting more or less down to ol' reliable and I have no qualms at all with that, as they never fail to wind up hitting the spot.

The Island Fire Chicken and Hawaiian BBQ Beef both had amazing flavor, but they had the texture of undercooked meat which ruined the experience for me. The Spam Musubi was ok but the seaweed wrap was too strong compared to the flavor of the spam which made it taste weird. The only other complaint I have is that they didn't have music playing. It was very quiet and I could clearly hear the conversations that the people around me were having. All that being said, I would be willing to come back if these things were addressed.
