* Hearty bread from freshly milled grain *…read more Entering this bakery you see a glass window protecting a wooden grain mill where they were milling grain to freshly make the flours for their bread. Can't get fresher than that! They started their business far away from the Okanagan in Cowichan Bay back in 2004. Recently they opened up this new second location in the heart of the Okanagan on Main Street in Summerland. They have a variety of organic grains available including red fife, spelt, and rye. And they also have some that weren't labeled as organic, but seem to come from cleaner sources including Kamut and a series of Vancouver Island Red Spring wheats from smaller farms. The rye bread looked delicious - so couldn't resist getting a loaf. It had a superb crust and a dense crumb. It was dusted in flour (perhaps just a tad too much, but I'm nitpicking). There was a slight sourdough flavour which enhanced the flavour profile nicely. What a great little place!…read more So thrilled to have a solid plant based dining option in Lake Country! Passing by? It's 5 minutes off the highway so if you're driving by and reading this, do make the trip down. It's also a lovely little neighbourhood to stretch your legs with a walk along the lake or just enjoy the view and there's a small kids park just a few blocks further down. We had the BLTA (tofu bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) it was very tasty. A little heavy on the bread for my liking but it the bun was a nice texture and flavour. We also had a sunrise muffin and coffee - excellent muffin; delicious, moist and fluffy - recommend for sure. I saw on their website they also have special events (like thanksgiving for example) so check it out! Place & pay for your order at the counter. It's a small, seemingly family run place - service was nice. We will definitely be back to try other items and to enjoy this casual country hang out again.
