After checking out the farmer's market, we were looking for a place to grab some pastries and stumbled on Petrasek Artisan Bakery. It's a family run business (the owners are originally from Slovakia) and everything is made from scratch.
We dropped in on a Saturday (around 11:15am) and it was busy. A continuous lineup outside.
There's a good variety of pastries, croissants and specialty breads. They also offer drinks (coffee, tea and tea lattes).
- Pretzel ($2.65) - soft and fluffy but still had a chewy pull to it. Solid homemade pretzel.
- Feta cheese and spinach pastry ($3.75) - flaky texture and a good balance between the feta and spinach. The owner threw in a freebie (a second smaller piece) which was a nice touch.
- Challah egg bread ($5.25) - I love me some challah and don't see this offered very often at bakeries. Light, good texture.
- Pear kouign amann (~$4.40) - beautiful presentation. The pear pieces on top were delicious. I wouldn't classify this as a kouign amann; seemed more like a galette or danish.
Would come back to PAB for more pastry goodies. read more
