I think my teeth are pretty simple, so most of my experience has been with getting cleanings from Dr Vo over the years. 8+ years later, I'm still going to the same dentist, and that speaks volumes to me! He is super reliable, fast, and efficient with his cleanings. Appointments are at convenient times for his clientele and he can always fit me in at 5pm, which I love. After a lot of stress, I did find myself grinding my teeth, and he pointed it out before I had realized I was doing it myself: my teeth were ground down significantly and he was able to show me in a mirror. Got me fixed up with a mouth guard very quickly! I'm also happy to say that he's always accepted my insurance, despite it changing almost every year (as seems common in startup world). That's always a pain for me with other doctors, so I'm really glad he's been able to always easily accommodate. If you need a new dentist, you won't be disappointed. read more

Dr.Vo was okay as a person but his dental skills were terrible. He drilled excessively and although i told him about my previous teeth trauma, he continued to drill heavily. It weakened my teeth and my tooth ended up chipping right afterwards. Won't be returning. read more

Do not do your filling and cleaning there. It was my first appointment and the entire session of cleaning and examination took only around 15 mins. This is the fastest cleaning session and didn't seem thorough enough. Then, I was told to come back for filling. The entire session was less than15 mins. My teeth started feeling painful after that (it was not painful before). I went back to him and he said it's normal and it will go away. It's still painful and I'm going to another dentist to fix it. I think he has too many patients and is always busy that the appointment is always less than 20 mins. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Vo every 6 months for about 8 years and I just saw him again last week. I have to admit that I was hesitant to go to the dentist during this strange COVID time that we live in, but I didn't want to break my streak considering that I used to be absolutely terrified of the dentist before Dr. Vo. About a week before my appointment, Dr. Vo's office called and asked me to get a COVID test before coming in, or I could take a rapid test at his office for $25. I checked the City of San Francisco's COVID test site and was able to get a same day (actually same hour) appointment, so I immediately hopped in my car and drove off to Pier 30 for my test. The testing site was a drive through - I just rolled down the window and a guy in a hazmat suit stuck a swab deep up both my nostrils and twirled it around until I almost sneezed. About 3 days later, I got my results (negative - phew!) and showed the results when I checked in at Dr. Vo's office. They also checked my temperature when I checked in. There were no other patients in the office while I was there. The dental cleaning and checkup were pretty much the same as always. Dr. Vo performs the cleanings himself and he's pretty gentle and quick. the only difference is that now he and his assistant are wearing face shields and N95 masks. Everything was already sanitized between patients so that hasn't really changed either. Although I wasn't sure if I wanted to go to the dentist during COVID, I'm glad that I went. read more

I came back to Dr. Vo for repairing a chipped filling after he cleaned my teeth the week before. He does not have a gentle hand and that should have been a red flag to not come here again. It was seriously the WORST experience and I've never been in more PAIN! First, I told the tech I was nervous and asked for laughing gas and she proceeded to laugh at me and tell me that it was only for small children. This not only was not professional, but she cast judgement on my legitimate fear. They "numbed" me with a gel first before giving me the local anesthesia. I told Dr. Vo that I kind of get numb, but wasn't sure. He told me to not worry about it and proceeded to give me the local anesthesia. It hurt and he saw me struggle, but proceeded to talk me through it like I was overreacting. After waiting 10min for the local to work, he came over and started with the filling repair. I was not numb. I felt the shooting nerve pain! I shouted "ow ow ow" and thankfully he stopped. He said I must have been I quote "over exaggerating my pain because I was nervous." I should have left here and went to another dentist. What horrible bedside manner and no one should discredit the pain I experienced. I got another shot of local anesthesia and he didn't use the numbing gel, so I felt him poke the sharp needle in a new place in my mouth! Dr. Vo then left me to wait another 10min. I started to tear up due to the pain and my nerves getting to me and this tech named Kammy, proceeded to tell me that I "seemed fine before, and I shouldn't be overreacting." I'm sorry ma'm but you didn't feel the TREMENDOUS PAIN I felt, so forgive me for tearing up a bit. Also, don't belittle my real pain! For the rest of the appointment, my body couldn't stop shaking in the chair and tears couldn't stop flowing. I've been to so many dentist and orthodontist appointments and nothing was ever this traumatic or painful. Save your time and money, and go to someone else who listens to you and treats you with more care and respect. I will never be back. read more

Came to get my teeth cleaned and to get a painful tooth checked out. The office was clean and orderly, the people working there were kind and efficient, and I left with my mouth feeling wonderfully clean. After taking x-rays, the dentist couldn't figure out what was wrong with my painful tooth, but he also didn't try to upsell me on anything, just gave me a few possibilities for what it could be that corroborated what a different dentist said (I grind my teeth really hard...). The pain's gone now, so I guess it wasn't serious. They also gave me a mini-gift bag with free toothpaste and toothbrush on the way out. Will def be back! read more

Excellent dentist. Quick and professional. I was the first patient. Arrived at 8:30 am, filled out the papers for new patients and got called in within a few minutes. Dr. Vo did an x-ray of my teeth and I cleaned it. One cavity which was fixed with white filling immediately. He told me that it wouldn't be covered by my insurance (only silver filling would be covered) and it would cost around $20. I was fine with that but when I paid it ended up being $52. Not a nice surprise. It would be helpful to give the patient an accurate price before doing the job. Other than that Dr. Vo is a great dentist I'd recommend. read more

Their front office seems like they know what they're doing and I've never had any issues with insurance and such. Overall, a good experience. I had a poor experience (involving a lot of pain) getting some fillings done here. I came in to get my teeth checked and Dr. Vo said I had 3 cavities, which he'd be able to fill during the same appointment. Neither cavity was too deep. The procedure went fine and my teeth were understandably a little sensitive (figured this would last for a few weeks). About a week after treatment, one of the tooth which was filled started hurting a lot. The pain was bad enough that it would wake me up in the middle of the night and prevent me from going back to sleep. I went back to see Dr. Vo and he filed down the filling but this didn't really help. I went back again and he replaced the filling with a new metal based one. Still no luck. I eventually went to another dentist for a second opinion and ended up having to get a root canal done. Another tooth Dr. Vo filled is also still pretty sensitive and I worry it might need a root canal. It was frustrating that a simple shallow filling ended up being so costly, causing so much pain, and wasted so much time. Throughout this process, Dr. Vo was also difficult to reach. His emergency number would go unanswered most of the time and I'd have to call multiple times. His hours on yelp and his website are also incorrect (they are closed on Thursdays and Tuesdays). I've been going to Dr.Vo for over 5 years now and I'm planning on staying with Dr.Vo until he retires! What sets him apart is how professional and efficient he is! You can count on him seeing you on time or even earlier than your set appointment! He'll make sure to do a through checkup every time and make sure nothing is bothering your teeth. Please beware!!!! This dentist is unethical, filthy, and money hungry. All he's interested in is billing your insurance. Even when you have insurance he still finds a way to have you pay additional out of pocket.The reality is he's a terrible dentist that does botched work. Please see the letter I sent him below. Dear Dr. Vo, I wanted to let you know that my husband ended up in the ER yesterday evening due to extreme pain you caused when negligently extracting his tooth. He had to be seen by an oral surgeon who took a second set of images which resulted in findings that required surgical removal to residual tooth root and treatment of complications due to post surgery. I tried reaching out to you multiple times over the weekend in desperation to address my husbands excruciating pain, infection, procedures, and aftercare which you and your staff didn't bother addressing at any point. After numerous attempts of reaching out to you and your office you finally prescribed him antibiotics over the phone without any follow-up or evaluation. We knew it was more than the little infection that you claimed it to be. Not only did you cause his infection but it required immediate oral surgery. Your actions are completely unacceptable and no one should be under your care. I'm going to report you to the California Dental Board for improper extraction or teeth, failure to treat complications, and proper care and procedures. I have been looking for a dentist in the city and it's hard to get an appointment with the higher rated practices. Here I was able to get an appointment within a week, and despite how pleasant it is to be in the clean modern office, you are typically done within 30 minutes. Wonderful experience with the dentist, they took X-rays and did a very thorough cleaning of my teeth with no issues. Unlike other dentists , he didn't suggest any unneeded procedures and had me on my way. There's been several times when they could have charged me for a quick pop-in visit where I was concerned about something, and they didn't. Wow what a dental week! I've been seeing Dr. Vo for something like 7 or 8 years and while I've generally loved going to him I'm never one to review online. What a difference it makes to try and get care elsewhere. Dr. Vo's office moved and things have become less convenient to come into SF so I tried someone downtown oakland for routine cleaning and an exam. I was floored by an enormous amount of work recommended that didn't line up with my dental history and seemed aggressive. I came back to Dr. Vo for a 2nd opinion with new x-rays in hand and it was immediately clear that I was being over-prescribed unnecessary work that would put me on the hook for more expensive maintenance down the line. I will be writing a separate review for this other practice. Regarding Dr. Vo I wish I reviewed him sooner. He's efficient, direct, pragmatic, and highly skilled with his handy work. He has told me on a number of occasions that I need to floss more regularly (don't we all) but has never exploited the flaws in my dental health to push aggressive care. He errs on the more conservative side with dental work preferring to maintain fillings and save root canals for when they're necessary because as he put it once you file the tooth down to nothing there's no going back. Oh and his office is incredibly considerate of time. My other dental experience earlier this week took eternity, leaving me abandoned in a room for over an hour. Every time I see Dr. Vo I'm seen almost immediately and the appointment goes at a reasonable pace, often ending earlier than scheduled giving me a solid amount of time to get back to my job. This whole experience has me incredibly grateful that I already knew Dr. Vo before seeing the newer dentist, as it allowed me to have a more intuitive sense of what the proper amount of care would be. He like before saved me a lot of money, discomfort and headaches. read more

I went to Dr. Hung for a cleaning and a check-up and it was a disaster. The cleaning was very sloppy (lasted about 30 minutes and it wasn't thorough at all!) and after a quick look at my X-rays he said that he needs to do a lot of repairs and that I need to come at least 2-3 times to get everything fixed. He didn't explain in detail what was the problem or let me ask any questions, it was very hand wavy. That was weird since 6 months ago I went to a good dentist in New York they didn't mention anything like that. Luckily I went to another dentist after this and as I suspected, there were no cavities or other problems that needed fixing... It was very disappointing and unprofessional. read more

Dr Vo kept saying I need fillings on a couple of tooth. He also made me feel guilty of not taking care of my tooth, so that I would go visit him more often. But I looked at my own x-Ray, it doesn't look bad at all. I switched to another dentist who has over twenty years of experience and did a thorough exam on my tooth. Dr. Vo is a good guy and seemingly competent. I had to let go because of his bed manners. Informing a patient that silver cavity will look awkward when I smile and then replying on my subsequent queries with "I only have half an hour - I can either talk or work" tells me I should go to a doctor who is at least respectful of his patient's concerns. Dr Vo is also 'Premium in-network' to Delta Dental (a new category that sits between in-network and out of the network Doctors), so he is more expensive than in-network dentists. I stopped in here a few months back because it's ridiculously close to my own business. Granted, I wasn't dressed in business attire in downtown, but I clearly didn't appear homeless. My inquiry was met with a cool attitude. I gave them my insurance info and they never called as they said that would. When I stopped back by I was told that my insurance was so horrible that it's like not having insurance and all. Yet, no query if I still wanted to make an appointment. I left stunned that they didn't want a new patient. I just went in for a cleaning and check up as a new patient. All the staff members as well as Dr. Vo are efficient and friendly. I waited no more than 10 minutes. I had a obsessive tea-drinking phase in January where I drank tea everyday and it stained my teeth pretty badly. I'm so gross. but WOW! after 15-20 minutes of intense cleaning that didn't hurt at all, my teeth were sparkling clean. X-rays were really fast and painless. At the end the staff gave me what they called a "gift bag." 1 manual toothbrush, 1 thing of floss and THREE travel size tubes toothpaste. so generous, I love these travel size toothpastes. super super duper dentist! he books up really quickly though, so you should make an appt a few weeks in advance. read more

I was disappointed today. What happened was I made an appointment on a weekday during work hours when I had my previous job because I had a lot of sick time to use. Then I found another job and called to reschedule to a time after 5 pm because I did not want to take time off from my current job. I informed the receptionist that I have a new dental plan and that I changed jobs; thus, I needed to reschedule to a time after 5. I was asked over the phone about my new employer and plan information. With this in mind, I assumed my insurance information checked out and I would not have any issue. I went to my appointment today at 5:30pm. I rushed from work because I didn't want to be late. The receptionist asked me if I worked at my previous employer. This made me concern because I thought we had this discussion previously. I assumed it was normal and I crossed my old information out and wrote in my new employer information. Then I was told that my insurance status is inactive. I became frustrated and concerned. She searched and tried calling my dental plan and no one picked up... I was very disappointed at that point because I wasted time getting to my appointment. My frustration stemmed from the fact that the receptionist did not check my plan beforehand. If it was an issue through my work we could have gotten it resolved before I went to the appointment or even better reschedule so we don't waste everyone's time. This review is purely regarding the administrative aspect of this office and not about Dr. Vo. I have been a patient for a couple of years and really enjoyed having him as my dentist and he does an awesome job. Five star to Dr. Vo. This is the best dental service I have ever received. I walk by this place every day when I'm heading to work, so it naturally came to mind when I needed my routine cleaning. I called them and had an appointment within the next week. As of right now, I have no dental insurance; I only have a discount card. I called them and asked, "How much is it with the discount card?" They told me the amount, and that was the amount I was charged later. Before the actual cleaning started, the dental assistant asked me if I wanted an X-Ray. I declined and no more was said about it. No hidden upselling or sneaky business on their part. Dr. Vo was very concise and didn't feed me any BS - just the facts that I wanted to know. He is an honest dentist who gives honest advice: "Brush better near your gumline - brush it at a 45 degree angle" "Using a floss pick is bad. Here's why" "No, that's not why your gums are slightly inflamed. This is the real reason." Very frank, easy to understand, and very trustworthy. Did I mention that the service was super quick? There was no long line in the waiting room. I came in right sharp at 2:00 and left at 2:26, and this was including the time it took to fill out the new patient paperwork! This is the best part: the gift bag at the end. I'm used to dingy dentists giving out crappy toothbrushes that they would never recommend, no-named toothpaste in travel size bags. Dr. Vo gives out a nice soft bristle full-sized toothbrush, a real tube of toothpaste, and some floss too! And it's nicely decorated too. Definitely will replace my rusty old toothbrush I stole from the W last April. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with my experience with Dr. Vo. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for great dental service in the SOMA area. A++ service. read more

Dr Vo`s office is probably an OK place for a simple cleaning, and the staff are polite but do not go there for anything more complicated than a cleaning. I went in as I needed to make sure that I do not have any cavity before I start my Invisalign and doctor Vo did couple of filling/refilling that I am not sure how many of them were really necessary (I was shocked by the bill, but that was not a big deal for me). I went back as I had a severe toothache on teeth 6 and 7 that Dr Vo did refilling the last time in about 3 weeks (still before starting any Invisalign procedure). They did x-ray and he apologized and said there is a crack in the filling and he revised his job for about 20 minutes when he numbed the area and used some cements to fix the crack (as he described) then he said sorry and they did not ask me to pay any money for that visit. The was back a week later! the pain has been so severe that I could not go to work and I went back to Dr Vo`s office this morning. He did an x-ray and said the nerves are damaged for teeth 6 and 7 and he is going to refer me to a root channel specialist. He did not take any responsibility that his malpractice in the first place has caused the issues and simply said make a case and my insurance will compensate. So UNETHICAL. read more

I have referred several coworkers to him, in some cases they were able to book first appts. in a very short time. He is not like the other dentists who I have had in SF. I say this because he didnt want to do a bunch of procedures so that he can finish paying off the Porsche. They do good work and have you in and out without much time and NO PAIN. I've been going to Dr. Vo for several years and this review is long overdue. One thing that always stand outs to me about Dr. Vo is that he does the cleaning himself and doesn't have an assistant do it. This makes everything in his office much more efficient. Dr. Vo has replaced several fillings for me and also has helped get me fitted for a night guard, all of which have been smooth processes. He is also extremely pleasant and personable and I've found going to him to be a really pleasant experience. Even though his office has moved from SOMA down to China Basin, I'm still planning to make my way down because a great dentist is hard to find! read more

I have the impression that this dental practice is focused on young, pretty people who are seeking cosmetic procedures. My wife and I, both old, visited him separately and walked away with the distinct feeling that we were not the dentist's or his assistants' favorite kinds of patients. They treated us professionally, but rather icily. Moreover, for just about anything beyond cleaning and cosmetic work, this dentist refers patients to other practitioners. My husband found Dr. Vo through yelp reviews and had a wonderful experience. The staff is super friendly and helpful and will give you a break down of your out of pocket costs before beginning any work. My trip to Dr. Vo was because an abscess that worried me. I was concerned because in the recent past a dentist was quick about pulling a tooth and requiring an implant. Dr. Vo explained to me that he had no intention of pulling this tooth and that it was an old root canal gone bad. He was very straight forward and open to all my questions. He referred me to a root canal specialist, saying it was safest to go with the specialist that has access to microscopes and other tools that will ensure the retreat was done properly. Dr. Vo's office was kind enough to ring the specialist up on the phone to request an appointment as soon as possible. What service! The specialist's office spoke to me briefly, letting me know that they would look into my insurance and get back to me on my out of pocket costs, if any. (This was all after I had miss-recorded my appointment time and was an hour late! They were still able to squeeze me in after a short wait.) read more
