Dr. Suezaki is awesome. My family and I have been going for him for at least 5 years now. He's very nice and polite and makes sure you're comfortable through any types of procedures you may need done. They'll offer juices or water and he's so thoughtful and always puts vaseline in your lips to avoid them from drying and cracking. He's very honest and wants what's best for you but also tries to accommodate you to make sure you won't be in any type of hardships or anything like that when you've got other dental things happening in your life. I love his staff. They're great. They're great at trying and fitting my family of 4 into a whole block of the day. We came in today. Our appointments were from 2 PM - 4 PM, it's 3:27 PM right now and are 3/4 of the way done. Love the fact that his office is on the 18th floor. Gorgeous view of union square. Elevator rides can be scary. I think we got stuck in a car once. That was not cool but you have to kind of expect it since it's a pretty old building. Bathrooms are outside of his office. One is directly across from the waiting room and there's two down the hall. Parking sucks, but it's downtown. This last paragraph has no impact on Dr. Suezaki, his service or staff. read more

I've been going to Dr. Suezaki for several years now. Aside from the routine fillings he has also replaced a few cavities and filled a few new ones. I am not the easiest patient as it takes the painkiller a while to work and I suffer from TMJ. But Dr. Suezaki is always very patient. He is also the only dentist that over the course of maybe 3 decades does not cause me to suffer any pain during drilling. His staff is great and he has a great bedside manner. There are cheaper dentists in SF but there are none that are better, and this is not the type of service where you want the low price. What I like the best about Dr. Suezaki is that he is a doctor that I can fully trust. When he has recommended any treatments, he always explained my options and why he thought one or the other would work best. And he was looking at my best interest and not at his. He is also a good coach, and keeps working with me to keep my teeth and gums healthy so that in the future I don't need any expensive treatment. His staff is amazing too. Five stars for dentist. Zero stars for reception. I have no complaints about Dr. Suezaki. The dental procedures are always gentle and pain-free, and he has always kind and attentive. Had it not been for my recent experience with the front desk, I would have continued to go see him. I am uploading an image of the letter I received from his office yesterday. Honestly, I think the letter basically speaks for itself as far as customer service goes. However, I'll also give the story below: Recently, I had an appointment for a cleaning. Unfortunately, the morning before, I had an emergency at work and found that I was not able to take time off the next day. I normally don't reschedule appointments at the last minute, but it was completely unforeseeable. So I called the dentist's office to ask if I could reschedule. Even after explaining the emergency, the receptionist (May) informed me that I would be charged $50 for not giving 48 hours' notice. I asked if there was anything that could be done to waive the fee, as I am unable to pay it. The receptionist told me that if I reschedule for that same week, she would waive the fee. It was phrased as "take an available slot this week or we'll have to charge you the $50." I felt cornered, so I took the appointment--for a time that would have been greatly inconvenient for me. Later, after getting off the phone and reflecting on it, I felt that it was unnecessary aggressive treatment to try to force me into an appointment that didn't work for me. I shouldn't have to feel cornered like that for a service I am paying for. I wrote the dentist a letter explaining what had happened and I called to cancel my new appointment. I got the answering service a couple times, but the cancelation did go through. I also received a call from Dr. Suezaki apologizing. He explained that his policy is to give leeway for emergencies and that the fee would not appear on my account. At that point, I was happy and I thought this situation was over. I had no intention of writing a yelp review until I received a letter in the mail from the receptionist, May. I especially relish the parts where she ALL CAPS YELLS AT ME, basically tells me I'm not respecting the office policy (other patients are ergo...), and where she tells me I "missed" my second appointment. I didn't miss it. I cancelled it, thank you. Anyway, here's the letter transcribed (verbatim) and I also included an image on yelp: Dear S___, We value you being a patient in the practice for the last 13 years. However, after reading your letter I was disappointed on how inaccurately you described our phone conversation. First of all, your chart has been noted when you called on April 25th, to cancel your April 26th appointment. Your reason was you have an emergency at work since you're short of staff. You did tried to convince me to waive the fee, and my replied was it would not be fair for other patients who respects the office policy. However, if you would have told me regarding the financial hardship you had mentioned on your letter, I WOULD NOT HAVE A SECOND THOUGH OF WAIVING THE FEE. We have compassion to our patients. We treat our patients with kindness and respect. Secondly, you also had mentioned on your letter that the only way I will waive the fee if you take another appointment that same week. My recollection of our conversation was you asked me when you can be rescheduled. And I replied we have an appointment available on Friday, April 29th at 10am, and you said, "You'll take that appointment." So, it prompted me to tell you, "AS A COURTESY TO YOU, I WILL WAIVE THE LAST MINUTE CANCELLATION FEE, SINCE YOU'RE RESCHEDULING ON THE SAME WEEK". But NEVER did I say "take an available slot this week or we'll have to charge you the $50." In regards to your second appointment that you've missed on April 29th, you had mentioned you left a message with the answering service on April 26th, but they don't have any records of you leaving a message. They got a message from you on April 27th. We do have office policies, and I am sure you also have one at your work place also. But we also have compassions and leeway towards our patients under different circumstances. Thank you, May But again, Dr. Suezaki is amazing....I just don't like the way I've been treated by the front desk. If you plan on going to see him, I'm sure you'll be happy with the dental care. I am VERY picky about dentists and I have seen many! Dr. Suezaki is AWESOME. He is kind, explains everything and is the most thorough dentist I have ever visited. I always feel as if he has really taken every during my exam to heart. He cares about his patients and he really listens. I have had a lot of work done on my mouth from root canals, 13 fillings, 5 crowns, 4 impacted wisdom teeth etc. Unfortunately, Dr. Suezaki was not in my life for any of those. My wife and I have been going to Dr. Suezaki for at least 10 years now. Besides being one of the nicest dentists you could ever meet (and I think that matters when someone is about to explore your mouth with shiny sharp objects), he takes the time to explain a) what treatments he thinks you need; b) what choices you have to do something right away or wait; and c) what he is actually doing when you're in the chair. My last dentist in SF (no libel here, I won't name him) was the arrogant type who told you what he planned to do and how much it would cost you as if you had no say in your own dental care. Dr. Suezaki prods when needed (yes I need to floss more) but never pressures you. And his staff is terrific as well. read more

Dr. Suezaki is a terrific dentist. It had been about 8 years since I last saw a dentist, so Dr. S had his work cut out for him. He managed to do what he had to do without causing me any pain, or even much discomfort, really. Top notch. Another thing he was great about is organizing my treatment plan so that I could use my cafeteria plan by a certain deadline. He's also very clear about what the treatment options are, and what the pros and cons of each are. Finally, his support staff are great as well. They are all very professional and friendly. Dr. Suezaki has a wonderful, small dental practice with a great 18th floor view facing south of downtown San Francisco. read more

I REALLY don't like going to the dentist. I had a bad experience when I was little, and have been nervous ever since. Dr. Suezaki is so nice and gentle though. I told him at my first appointment how nervous I was, and he, and his staff have been very sweet about it. He lets me listen to music on headphones to calm myself down, and to block out some of the sound of the tools (he even lent me his own headphones the first time b/c I had left mine at the office). He was very careful to make sure everything was very numb before proceeding. The only discomfort I have ever felt there at all was from some of the tools they have to use. They just don't fit so well in my tiny mouth. He also carefully showed me what my charges would be and made sure they were OK before he did anything. He is very gentle, and has great service. I have such a fear of the dentist, my hands begin to perspire the moment I walk through the door let alone when I sit in the chair. Finding a dentist who is sympathetic to my fear has been difficult over the years. I found a dentist who made me feel very comfortable and put me fears at ease, I thought he would be my dentist for life. Unfortunately he started his own practice and I wasn't able to find him. I had an emergency (cracked a tooth) over a holiday weekend and didn't know what I was going to do, thankfully I wasn't in extreme pain as the location of the crack in my tooth didn't expose the root. My brother recommended his dentist, Dr. Suezaki. I left a message with Dr. Suezaki's exchange and received a call back the next business day, I was able to get an appt right away and get the cracked tooth taken care of. That's been several years ago, I am still fearful of the dentist, however, Dr. Suezaki is one the best. My nerves are calmed down right away, the anxiety I feel upon walking through the door is minimal once I sit in the chair. Dr. Suezaki explains exactly what he's going to do and welcomes any questions and or concerns. I feel as comfortable as I am ever going to feel at the dentist thanks to Dr. Suezaki and his staff. When you're sitting in a dental chair awaiting some knarly fillings or even just that teeth cleaning that you know you should've gotten a long time ago and are finally getting around to it, you'll want Dr. Suezaki to be the person looking over you. He is the nicest guy you could ask for and always remembers and asks about things in my life and how my husband is doing (who is also a patient of his). Not only that, but he's extremely thorough and kind, always letting you know what he's doing and continually checking in with you to make sure you're doing ok when he's doing a procedure. For some doctors, dealing with the appointment scheduling and front desk staff can be trying, but not here. They are amazingly on top of it: very understanding when I've had to switch appointment times; always call with a reminder, and are super-friendly to boot. The place can be a challenge to get to if you have to drive into downtown (in that case, park in Sutter-Stockton garage, as that's the best deal around there), but it's worth it and isn't far from BART if you're doing the public transit thang. With my less-than-stellar, post-childhood braces mouth, I'm so glad that the drill going into my teeth is in such good hands. read more

Never asked me to do any unnecessary work, always gave me options when it came to deep cleaning/root canal. The alternate approach almost always worked. i have hesitated to write this review, because everyone at this office was, as noted by others, very pleasant. but, in the end, i decided to write a brief review. they said that it looked like i had "pocketing" in my gums and showed me pictures (ick) and explained to me how to floss (i floss twice daily and have for years and have gone to dentists for years, and no one had ever mentioned this before) and explained that the bacteria could have been the cause of my problem because i wasn't flossing properly and, well, i went to another dentist who said my teeth look good, and so do my gums.. read more

Dr. Suezaki is the best dentist I have ever been to. If you are reluctant to see a dentist, for whatever reason, you will not be after one visit to Dr. Suezaki. He does ensure your visit is pain free. He ensures your comfort throughout your visit. If you start to feel pain at any stage of the procedure, simply lift your finger and he immediately stops. He explains everything to the extent that you want it explained. He will literally show you the exact steps he plans on taking , if you indicate that is of interest to you. Yet he will not burden you with the information if you state that you are sqeemish or scared or otherwise would rather not know. I personally travel 45 minutes from the suburbs to Dr. Suezaki even though there are literally thousands of other dentists accepting new patients between my home and his office. Dr. Suezaki is FABULOUS! I've been avoiding the dentist for the better part of a decade and have some serious issues with my teeth. I finally forced myself to find a local dentist and make an appointment (secondary to significant sensitivity). From the moment I called to see if I could get in (they fit me in the same day!), I knew it would be a positive experience. The woman at the front desk put me at ease the moment she answered the phone, and again when I arrived. I filled out paperwork and was in the chair before my scheduled appointment time. The hygenist was awesome as well... so patient and friendly. Dr. Suezaki made me feel immediately comfortable. He was gentle and thorough and explained absolutely everything in detail (he ended up staying beyond closing). I didn't get the dreaded lecture about not flossing enough (or at all) but am now motivated to take better care of my teeth.
