I was under her care right before and in the beginning of Covid. I had Invisalign through her practice. Her bedside manner is horrid - very rude and pushy. Not the point. Ever since treatment my jaw click is terrible, it clicks and cracks constantly. An issue I never had. Additionally my lower front teeth show lots of wear. I got my 5 year scans done (a little late) last month and I have significant root degradation of my two upper front teeth. I have decades of teeth scans and the degradation only started after her treatment. Today I saw a different orthodontist - the changes that Dr. Cheng made to my bite makes my lower teeth contact my upper front teeth. It's lots of force to my front teeth. It's likely that their treatment and changes to my bite caused this. Not only has that constant contact likely caused root deterioration, I've had jaw pain and clicking, and my lower teeth are worn. I will be redoing Invisalign with a new ortho to correct these issues. read more

I just completed my 2nd alignment treatment with another phenomenal orthodontist, after my first deeply unhappy encounter with Dr. Amanda Cheng back in 2018. The difference in communication, service quality and the final result was staggering. At least with the second doctor, I was not questioned and condemned simply for not grasping an orthodontic terminology. After all, I didn't attend Harvard for a dental degree -- I came to receive professional care from someone who did. When I raised concerns about my teeth still being crooked before treatment was "completed," Dr. Cheng flatly denied it and refused to provide any way of measuring progress. In contrast, my second doctor carefully examined the issue, created a refinement plan, and delivered perfect alignment as a result. For the record, both doctors labeled me an "easy case". I wish her display of the Harvard certificate and the warmth of shared Asianness had been authentic rather than performative during those initial visits, but instead I left feeling hard-sold and manipulated -- and I truly hope no patient has to experience that again. read more

Another ortho took over my case randomly after Dr. Cheng left the practice which I had no idea about. He was able to fix most of the issues (such as my mouth becoming worse than where I began). Unfortunately, the doctor's assistant (not the doctor) called to apologize expressing "how sorry" she was and offered to give me a free AcceleDent device to remove my review. I accepted the apology and decided to continue treatment however upon going to the office after asking me to remove this post in office (to which I declined) I was met with an off brand sample. When noting to the assistant that this was not the AcceleDent as promised she said she "thought she had an extra" when she made this promise and realized once I came in she did not. I declined and she said she would call me later to confirm whether offering me an actual device was possible. I have not heard anything from the office since...other than the fact that they were changing offices. This practice is struggling and has been for some time. It seems our records and scans don't exist anywhere anymore - mine are just a messy PDF with some clearly retconned chart notes and the photos Dr. Cheng took when I finished my treatment. You'll have to start over from scratch. This is totally unacceptable. Sadly, Dr. Cheng sold her practice to Image Orthodontics without notifying any of her clientele. Image is now quoting us between $1,200 and $800 for replacement sleep retainers, as well as saying that our medical records simply don't exist in their system - if we want retainers, we have to come back to be re-scanned at our own expense. Trying to track down my records and access a standard of care has been a nightmare, so despite having really liked Dr. Cheng personally I regret ever having gone to this practice. I started my journey with doctor Cheng years ago. I was having difficulties sleeping and it was severely impacting my quality of living. With her guidance I was able to get treatment to help with double jaw surgery. She worked closely with the surgeon make sure that I was happy with my smile. Honestly had a terrible experience. I came in with such a simple request: to use Invisalign to correct my front teeth' midline alignment. It was supposed to take one treatment with a few trays and about six months. 1.5 years later (it literally took 3x as long as it should've), thousands of $$'s spent, and lots of back and forths with the doctor, I now have a mediocre alignment and a sore jaw. I mentioned multiple times that the rubber bands she told me to wear were messing up my upper/lower alignment and hurting my right jaw. After complaining enough times about it, I finally got the OK to stop wearing the bands, but the damage was done. I already messed up my bite, and now I have severe jaw pain and my bottom teeth aren't even aligned in the center. Not to mention, the midline that I initially came in for isn't fully corrected. Every time I expressed my opinion or concerns about what was happening and the prescribed treatment, I was continually gaslit. Every time I mentioned my jaw hurt or that the upper/lower alignment wasn't correct anymore, I was gaslit. She literally made me feel like I was the problem. It honestly seemed like the office was too busy pumping out Invisalign patients to actually care about having a customized plan for me or making sure my initial ask was met. If you want to be gaslit and put on a cookie-cutter plan - I recommend this office. Horrible doctor. Amanda would like to remind you she went to ivy school, unfortunately she never learned professionalism during her time there. Amanda has terrible bed side manners, just rude and an awful doctor. The entire time I went for treatment, she did very little and just cold during the visits. Zoe the administration assistant is just as bad never returns calls and is not helpful. After one of my "last visits" was done Zoe, the front desk assistant keep asking me to leave a 5 star review on yelp. Told her I did have an account, Zoe then told me to sign up for a google one and leave one there or use my wife's account. I refused and she did not seemed pleased. I think that's partially why they have so positive reviews on yelp. Don't be fooled by this place based on yelp. I thought I finished my treatment, but I never got my retainers from them, think they were not pleased I did not want to leave a positive review. Went here for Invisalign because of the good reviews. The service and result were a 3/5 and the patient management and billing were a 1/5. Overall 2/5. On the service, Dr. Cheng was friendly and competent. But I didn't feel like I received anything more special than what I could have gotten through my normal dentist. The results were ok. After 6 months of Invisalign treatment, I still have a tooth that's misaligned and a few gaps. There was only one check up between starting and ending treatment, so it was hard to know what the final outcome was going to be until the bonds were removed from my teeth and treatment was considered "done". On the patient management and billing, I'm pretty disappointed. Took me weeks to receive my final retainer. And a few months after my treatment ended, I also received a call from the billing department saying that my account was past due - a change in insurance was the issue. No note, no email, no phone call, or bill until it was 30 days late. I learned that the billing department knew about this issue 2 months ago, but was only just getting around to notifying me. What a headache. Tired of healthcare providers feeling absolved of any accountability for poor patient billing and insurance management. read more

I've been meaning to write this review but was hesitant to do so. Back in November-December of last year I was looking into getting braces. I received consultation from another place first but wanted to see what my other options were out there. I found this place via Yelp and was ecstatic to come in due to all the positive reviews of this place. Before I even came in, I told myself that I would choose this place no matter what - I was wrong! I came out of my consultation feeling stupid. When I asked my questions, I just remember Dr. Cheng turning side ways confused about my question. All I remember was I didn't feel great coming out of this place and immediately calling my other ortho. I have a severe case for my teeth: cross-bite, missing back tooth, and jaw misalignment. She literally sighed while looking at my teeth!! It made me feel horrible!!!! I could tell the assistant knew I was down because she was trying to cheer me up. Really I'm giving this place +1 star because the assistant was really kind and had great customer service. Also during the consultation, I was recommended to get tads while the other place didn't so this was another reason why I didn't go with this place. Worst experience ever. If I could give negative stars I would. I've had braces in the past, and went in to correct my midline and correct my slightly crooked teeth from a lost retainer. Throughout the whole process Amanda had horrible bed side manner, and was extremely cold. I had the same attachment pop off on separate occasions and after each subsequent visit to have it re-attached Amanda was more angry to see me than the last visit. She would sigh deeply while re-attaching my bracket and was very short with me which made the entire experience extremely uncomfortable. I won't fault her for the attachment popping off since that can happen, but after a few visits of re-attaching the same bracket, she mentioned to me I would have to pay out if pocket for a visit if I had to get the bracket re-attached again. I agreed, and left the office. The same attachment popped off an additional time and I knew that I would have to pay out of pocket for my next visit to have it re-attached. I assumed it would be a nominal fee since she was just adhering a single bracket to my tooth. It ended up being $300. To re-attach one single bracket. Who charges $300 to re-attach a bracket? During my last visit I checked in with the front desk and it all went downhill from there. Amanda walked over to the reception desk, looked at the computer, didn't even greet or acknowledge me and then stepped away. The receptionist then mentioned I would have to pay the fee which I expected. After speaking with Amanda briefly, the receptionist then told me in a hushed voice that instead of paying the $300 re-attachment fee I could write Amanda a positive 5-star Yelp review. I had to write it then in that moment and show it to the receptionist in order to have the fee waived. I refused to write the positive review as it is unethical to ask for a 5-star review on Yelp in exchange for service or something of monetary value. The receptionist was clearly very uncomfortable with the entire situation. Amanda should not impose that her staff participate in such unethical behavior. I've seen other reviews from individuals who have had a similar experience with her terrible bedside manner and overall negative experience. I know Amanda will respond with some excuse or that I'm not really a patient but this would be a lie. I have the payment agreement/screenshots of payments made to Days To Smile and can post screenshots as proof. It's clear the only reason her practice has a 5-star rating is because she offers a monetary incentive/discount in exchange for a 5-star positive review. Heed the multiple negative reviews and do not give a dime to Amanda Cheng. Edit: Responding to Amanda's comment. My bracket did not break off 6 times, and I was charged that exorbitant amount of $300 to re-attach the bracket the second to last time I visited your office. There was no argument and my treatment was paid in full. I paid the $300 instead of completing the 5-star review your office requested of me because it is unethical to ask for this. My refusal to your receptionist was kind and to the point as I expressed I would not be writing a 5-star review. TLDR; I can confirm the other negative reviews attesting to Dr. Cheng's cold bedside manner, and frankly, money-hungry mentality. She solicits positive Yelp reviews from customers. I came to Dr. Cheng for Invisalign as an adult after having a first round of braces in high school and neglecting to wear my retainer (#regrets.) I was quoted a faster timeframe at a lower price than a competing orthodontist, so opted to go with Days to Smile. For the first 7-8 months of treatment, everything was seemingly fine. I'd come in routinely for checkups in which Dr. Cheng would very quickly check how my trays were fitting and then send me on my way. Fast forward about a few months out from the tentative end of my treatment... I came in for a routine checkup and Dr. Cheng frowned and told me that I needed to use the "chewies" she gave me way more frequently in order to correct the crowding of my bottom teeth - something she never previously communicated was essential, but merely a "nice to do" to help expedite the process. Sure enough when it came time for my final checkup a few months later, I noticed my bottom teeth were still misaligned. Having been to an extremely attentive orthodontist in high school, I expected Dr. Cheng to notice this and share her perspective on how to resolve the issue to make sure my smile looked perfect. Instead, she acted as if I was crazy and my smile was straight (multiple friends, family members, and even her dental assistant would confirm this was not the case.) I'm talking DEATH glares from her when I tried to advocate for myself. She no doubt did not want to invest the additional time and resources out of her own pocket to ensure I got the results I was promised. After I insisted she resolve the issue, she ordered me additional corrective Invisalign trays which tacked on an extra SIX MONTHS to my treatment. It was at that point that I understood why the timeframe she initially quoted me seemed shorter than that of the competitor - it was unrealistic. I begrudgingly used the additional trays and at long last ended with a smile I was decently happy with. However, I yet again must callout Dr. Cheng's fake facade and bedside manner at the time of my final appointment. Rather than the deadpan, cold, and transactional demeanor she displays during brief checkups in which she rushes you in and out, when it came time to get my bonds taken off, she was VERY noticeably chipper and agreeable. I found this strange, until I realized it was because she wanted to sell me on more services. :)))) She convinced me to add composite bonding to a few misshapen teeth, which I regrettably agreed to doing in the heat of the moment for another $600 upcharge. When I got home and looked at my teeth in better light, I noticed the work was uneven and asked to come back in to get the shape touched up. At my follow-up appointment she was back to the death glares and cold demeanor. Because how DARE I ask an orthodontist - who I'm paying thousands of dollars to fix my smile - for my teeth to look straight and even, right?! ;) Here's the kicker of it all: I originally found Dr. Cheng here on Yelp as I was new to the Bay Area and saw all her positive reviews. Imagine my surprise when I got my Invisalign off and was told I could get an extra retainer for free if I filled out a Yelp review!!!
