We have ordered from this place several times... always....ok. Tonight my usual steamed broccoli with tofu was very sour (the tofu) and I thought it was odd that it was on top of pork fried rice (always white rice, steamed on the side). I do not eat meat!! Then I noticed there were two free pork egg rolls. Very disappointed! I don't like to make assumptions, however, I feel they knew the tofu was bad and they were making up for it with the fried rice and egg rolls. The food was terrible!! I went today on March 20, 2024. I ordered a wonton soup which was dried up and the wonton was a dark brown color. Meat inside of the wonton was nasty. The chicken wings was not chicken wings at all. Wings come with a drum stick and a flat piece. I got all drum sticks. This little boy told me the wings come chopped. Stopped by here for a quick dinner. It's a family owned place. The staff here are super sweet. We needed to use the restroom and they were kind enough to let us use their staff bathroom. As good as it gets in Northern NJ. Hands down the tastiest, cleanest and friendliest Chinese take-out. This review is long overdue. I ordered some lunch takeout months ago and it was legit. Ordered takeout dinners over the last couple of weeks and here is my honest opinion. Great staff answering the phones and greeting you. This looks like a second generation family working and running the business. The kitchen is immaculate. I've witnessed them scrubbing down the area at the end of the night. Now down to the food. I will add pictures to show you that I am not lying. They devein the shrimp. Yes!! You know the black line on the back of the shrimp? It's their digestive tract. You don't have to do it but you don't need to eat that. They do they go the extra mile. The food was a perfect ratio of of meat to vegetables. We ate here for the first time recently, and were pleasantly surprised! The food was very fresh and tasty. We had been looking for a good chinese place that we could enjoy on a regular basis, and we are so happy to find Hunan Wok. Many places use some sort of odd flavoring (fishy?) that I can't tolerate, but here they just make fresh, delicious food. The only down side was a dumpling dish that we ordered had all the bottom if the dumplings burnt so we did discard them. I would have hoped that they noticed that, it was obvious and more burnt than over done. All in all, we will go back for the delicious food. read more

This place is phenomenal. If you don't like this place, send me a message and we'll fight. I'll fight to the death for these guys that's how much I love their food. The staff is exceptional. My boys behind the counter are always hard at work, whether it be in the kitchen, the books, or a game of chess. Very hardworking people and it shows the food is great. Orders are never wrong like some other places in town. I'm looking at you Asian Island. Truly a hidden gem in town. This place could go toe to toe with almost any chinese food place in New Jersey. Only one complaint, most of the dishes are good, but if you order anything in which the menu says crabmeat or king cranmeat, do not order. It is not even a good fake crab, tastes like mush, similar to the fish balls used in chinese soups. The menu dish is Subgum Wonton. Others to watch are Seven Star Around the Moon, Happy Family. Only offered apology, no discount on next order, not good business sense. Need to change menu to reflect actual ingredients. Might have to cross them off my go to list. read more

Stay away at ALL costs. Got take out last week and first red flag was the order was messed up as it has been so many times before. We have come to expect this as we have been customers for years. My nine year was eating a steamed pork dumpling and realized that something wasn't right. After further inspection, we found a LARGE piece of a metal scrubbing brush that was used in the kitchen was embedded in the meat. I returned the food immediately and got my money back. This place is reliable and has very good hours. The people who work here are very friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable. The food is always very good. I recommend egg rolls, spring rolls, egg foo young either shrimp or pork, lo mein, fried rice, sesame chicken, cashew chicken. The chicken is plentiful in all the poultry dishes. read more

This is a solid chinese place. I like how they don't use MSG, and the food is not oily. I would prefer more meaty chicken for general tsaos chicken and a slightly thicker sauce, but overall great taste. The pork fried rice, egg rolls, chicken broccoli and boneless ribs were solid. Not only is this place great, it's inexpensive. Everything is super fresh, super hot, and made to order. What happened?!?!? This used to be the best Chinese food in town! Last night we ordered dinner and it was completely inedible. The ribs had no meat and the won ton soup had no pork, green onions or flavor. The worst was the butterfly shrimp. Instead of shrimp, bacon and egg on a bed of sweet & sour onion, they gave us shrimp, egg and raw MAPLE bacon on a bed of broccoli and snow peas in a brown sauce. The minute we opened the container I thought we ordered pancakes from the diner! It was bizarre!
