Two thumbs up to Hunan L'Rose. Recently moved to the area and was looking for my local Chinese spot. I found it! We ordered a few different dishes (chicken with broccoli, shrimp fried rice, and fish w/black bean sauce). They were each what you'd expect from a classic Chinese spot, which I was happy about. The shrimp fried rice actually had plenty of nice sized shrimp, and the chicken with broccoli was cooked just right. Hate mushy broccoli. We stopped in one late evening and grabbed a table. The space has plenty of cozy seating. Our server was super nice and took great care of us. From the looks of it, a lot of people frequent this place as it seemed like they were familiar and friendly with the staff. We will be back!! read more

Very good authentic Chinese food restaurant! I had a craving for good beef chow fun and boy did it hit the spot!! The beef was so incredibly tender and the noodles were so flavorful. We also ordered beef with mixed veggies which was salt and pepper crispy calamari and fried chicken wings for appetizer. I ordered online and my order was ready for pickup by the time I arrived for a seamless pickup right at the front desk. I'd highly recommend and will definitely be ordering again soon! read more

My lovely bride is returning from a trip to Ohio today, she isn't in until this afternoon...so one more strip mall chinese combo meal. She is a bit more "refined" so these kinds of places are not her cup of green tea. I enjoy high end stuff for sure, but there is something nostalgic about the jumble of amercanized stuff heaped on marginal fried rice that just works for me. Hunan Rose does this well. I got kung Pao chicken combo. It was quite good, just spicy enough to mimic actual Chinese dishes. The rice is a bit basic, but the texture is great . I walked in, very pleasant older gentlemen running the front/phone and register. It was out in about 10 minutes. You can't get Popeye's in 10 minutes and their food is already cooked and right there behind the clerk, just needs to make it into a box. Why is it that place like this are ten minutes champs! Prep, prep and more prep, organized and hustle is my guess. Someone else mentioned that its a bit dated inside. Yes it is and that for me was quite charming. It looks like the kinds of places you should be in a jacket and dresses for. The music playing was a old classic soft jazz version of some old classic that I can't think of the name of. I hate having to do this but I feel like it's only right to. My dad and I went there yesterday and when we went to order my dad freaked out. Turns out a roach ran across his hand and he had to kill it on the table in front of the waiter. They still made us pay for our meal but took our soup off. It felt like they had seen this before and really didn't care. My mom actually stopped going a while before my dad and me due to getting sick a couple of times on their food. My family had been coming here for decades without issue until today. My mom ordered shrimp chow mein and was served chicken chop suey. Both the waiter and the manager insisted that chow mein doesn't have noodles. I'm part Chinese and I know that "chow" means fried and "mein" means noodles. They were very rude, and the manager said, "You can't tell us what to do!" They also tried to belittle us behind our backs for verifying things with Google. We ordered a Triple Delight (sliced beef, chicken, shrimp, straw mushrooms, baby corn, water chestnuts, broccoli, snow peas, brown sauce), Chicken with Broccoli, Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Lo Mein, white rice, and an order of Crab Rangoon. The crab rangoon was really good. They were crispy and we liked the filling inside. My mom liked her chicken and broccoli. The pieces of chicken were pretty big. My dad enjoyed the triple delight. There was quite a bit of shrimp throughout. The beef was tender. He felt there could have been more chicken. I ordered the chicken lo mein. It tasted fine, but there was much filler with the onions and other things added. Overall, we enjoyed what we ordered. We're a bit of a drive away from this restaurant, so if we were in the area I could see us ordering from here again. read more

Hunan L'Rose is an older Chinese-American restaurant located in an Odenton strip mall that has seen better days. The decor inside looks as it was from when it opened in the late 80's-early 90's. It really needs to be updated. The July evening that I went the air inside the restaurant was really hot like the A/C wasn't working. The employees that were working that night were really polite and professional and busy. It seems like they are short staffed like almost every place now. I ordered the Shrimp Chow fun which was a special that night. It is wide rice noodles sautéed with bean sprouts, onion and shrimp. The dish is savory not spicy and they were generous with the shrimp which is a plus in my book. Another dish ordered was the General Tso's chicken which was another huge serving size. It looks like they use a mixture of dark and white meat in case you are wondering. For appetizers, the spring rolls were really tasty and bit greasy but still good. For ending the meal they bring you hot towels for your hands and tiny scoops of sherbet. All in all I would come back to Hunan L'Rose when I get a Chinese food craving. read more

Covid precautions: One pretty old guy who works there likes to do that I'm wearing a mask but not wearing a mask (under his nose) so not a fan there. Service: There has been at least one time where my order was never ordered and I had to wait, or my order was incorrect and had to wait (with no discount or courtesy) so it is was it is, take it or leave it. Food: Food is tasty and generally it's gonna be good, though I have had a few upset stomach from the grease. I had to start was some fried spring rolls, and fried pork wantons . Full of flavor there was plenty enough to share with my guest . For my entree , I honestly had something very simple , shrimp fried rice with extra egg, I just wanted just rice , it's so good well prepared . I love this restaurant, but I would not order delivery. For some reason, carry out/delivery is terrible compared to dine in. One time I ordered orange chicken for take out and the chef forgot to fry it. It was ... interesting. However, when you eat in, it's a much better experience. The drinks are fairly priced and good. I have never had a problem with the food quality. And of course the complimentary tea, hot towels and orange ice cream make you feel like you are in an old movie. I'm not sure why the delivery service is so terrible is but it's a common occurrence. It seems that most bad reviews across the internet are for delivery which proves my theory. First off, the place just looks old and dirty. The fish tank is gross. There is ONE server/waiter/bartender. We waited 45 minutes for our soup and another 45 for our food. There is one guy filling water glasses and he wasn't attentive at all. We would wait 30 minutes to get water refills. AND, before we left, while waiting for our check, a mouse ran past our table. I told a woman who worked there and she said,"oh, thanks for telling me. I will call the guy back, he caught 3 last month.". Nope!!! That was the nail in the coffin for me and my family. This is my 3rd time enjoying this little restaurants goodies. When my family member took me out for a sit down meal a few years ago, I remember what fantastic food they had. That hasn't changed. The food here isn't bad. I actually know people that rave about this location. To me it was "Okay". There aren't many chinese places in the area that you can sit down with the family, and have a meal. So as far as that they have a leg up, but as far as food quality goes I actually prefer the carryout down the street. I guess it's just a preference, but it's mine. I discovered when competition for Chinese is non-existent, all the mediocre Chinese food business seem to stay in busines. The one negative comment I have is they had fans trying to keep the restaurant cooled because one of the air conditioning units was inoperable.
