We tried the hot pot tonight and it was great. It was very flavorful and a fun experience for the family. The kids liked it a lot as well, getting to cook their own food! read more

Hunan Chinese Restaurant - Hot pot set up (forgot to get the picture right away) - Chinese Near Me - Kearney, Nebraska

Surprised they have legit Chinese food here. By that I mean the spicy level for Hunan food. Long bean are died at the right level but too spicy for me Don't order the Chinese section of you cannot handle spicy. The white people section is pretty mediocre. Fried Wonton is super dry and flavorless read more

The "New" Hunans is very good. It was sad how the previous owners had drug it down, but the new owners and new menu have brought it back to a go to place. Menu is totally new, with several new dishes. Beef, chicken and shrimp, no pork at all. Crab rangoons some of the best we have had. Steamed rice includ, fried rice 1.50 up charge. read more

See all

We were not greeted the server just walked past us and pointed at a table . Zero customer service worst I think I've seen in a long time ! the food was covered with plastic lids which made it soggy and disgusting . The food while having little to no flavor tasted like it had been reheated not fresh how it should be . Our server or lack of was not friendly nor did he do anything to make our lunch any better !! I will never return to this TRASH CAN of a Chinese restaurant!!!! read more

Love going for hotpot!!! It is a nice change from the usual thing. Have a decent selection on the menu.

Compared to what it was when the original owner had it, it is a shadow of it's former self. At this point it's been passed around so many times that the classic recipes are lost, and the new menu is just more boring mall food court Chinese. Sad to see how far the once best Chinese in town has fallen. read more

I went there for dinner on March 10, 2022. The worst Chinese Food in town. I'm Asian and I can tell you the food tasted awful. I do not recommend this place to anyone. I give a one star for service efforts. read more

Hot Pot at Hunan is a Must Try!!! Amazing deal, awesome service and a great foodie experience in Kearney that you can't get any closer than Denver or possibly Omaha. Let's support this so we don't lose it!!!! read more

Went there with my boyfriend today, I had never been there he was there all the time as a kid and said it was really good but it had new owners so he didn't know if it would be the same. We ended up getting the buffet, the food tasted very bland and just wasn't good at all the buffet looked like it has been sitting out for a long time and wasn't very full ethier. We paid 33 dollars for food that was mostly likely old and was very bland. The best thing there was the pop. Ended up getting food poising too:( DONT go to this place!!!!! read more

This is not the staple restaurant Kearney once had. Under new ownership, the food is nothing like it used to be and buffet is twice the price. The one thing they did well was ruin the name of Kearney's best places to eat. read more

This restaurant USED TO BE so good. I went there today and I was so disappointed!! First off the selection of main entrees and soups decreased from two steam tables to one. Second, the entrees all tasted the same. It tasted pasty and processed. Where is all of the homemade meats and amazing sauces? Where is the wonton soup? Crab Rangoons? Please, they were tiny, chewy, pieces of cardboard with no filling. The egg rolls had the same disgusting processed taste as all of the entrees. I don't know, maybe they hadn't changed their fryer oil in a year. At a buffet I can find something to eat usually. We tried entree after entree with utter disgust. As one plate of disgusting food after another piled up on our table, a waiter stood and scowled at us instead of picking up the plates. We tried salvaging our $14.95 per person with soda and dessert. However, the desserts were processed cardboard brownies and cream puffs. A trip to the restrooms sealed the fate of this review. Why did they go down hill so much? Never Again!! read more

Usually, I only come to Hunans for their lunch buffet, which is always a crowd and belly pleaser. But their take out is Top Notch! I dunno how they get it to be so hot! (this is a good thing, honestly, I sometimes choose to dine at places so my food doesn't get cold). I placed an order for take out and they told me it would take 10 minutes (arrived precisely then and it was ready!). What I got was perfectly freshly cooked food. Honestly, even with the outside temperature below 0 and the time I took to get home, this food was still hot, I had to make sure to not burn my tongue. Otherwise, the flavor of the food was great, the service was fast. Best Chinese in Kearney. read more

Beth and myself in today's lunch buffet. Had been a while since last here. Maybe our imagination or something else, but... was a different smell in air upon entering front door, and all foods had a slightly 'off' taste. Sorta like a dirty dishrag. Nearly every bite. We do not plan any return for a long while. And maybe this same reason why we've not been back for nearly a year. read more

Went there for a lunch daTe with my boyfriend. Their fried rice and the sesame chicken were both very yummy! My boyfriend tried a few different dishes and was disaapointed in the Lomein and a few others and the crab Rangoon were dry and didnt have a lot of car ream cheese or crab inside. The waiter was very poliite and quick though at seating us and bringing our drinks read more

Hunan Chinese Restaurant - Green beans, rice, shrimp and veggies, sesame chicken and general chicken - Chinese Near Me - Kearney, Nebraska

This place used to be the place to go for lunch buffet. It was always very busy and fresh food was a must, so you could count on it being made fresh very consistently. This was the first time we had been back in town during the buffet hours. I don't know if management changed or what it was but it is now terrible. They removed about half of the food options and the ones they do have are not very appetizing at all. The price has increased by about $5/person. It was so bad we're not sure if we will go back to try it again, ever. read more

Absolutely love this place for Chinese takeout! They are super quick and friendly and the quality of the food is always excellent. We come back again and again! read more

One of the drawbacks to living in Nebraska is that the local folks like their food bland. Hunan is very successful but caters a bit too much to local tastes. They do, however, have a secret Chinese menu, one written in Chinese characters and meant to please the pallet of Chinese diners. Ask for it. You won't be able to read it, but the wait staff can help. The food is spicy and delicious, My favorite is beef and potatoes with hot peppers. read more

The quality of food here is the best of the Chinese restaurants (note-- NOT THAI) in town. It's better than King's, way better than Imperial Palace (that place in the mall), and better than the place next to Cafe Vibe. But I've only been once with the wife, because.... IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO GET INTO FOR LUNCH! Seriously. We tried 3 times, and only got in once. That should tell you about the popularity of the place. They don't deliver (they really should!) but you can get take-out. We've done that once for dinner, and weren't disappointed. :) read more

This place is not worth your money. I was extremely disappointed with the food. I ate the buffet lunch and seems like everything was watered down and flavorless. Honestly I almost could taste the cow dung in the water run off. They either don't wash their dishes properly or the water they get to cook everything tastes like shit. literally. Save your money, time, and tastebuds and just eat somewhere else. Someone else commented that this food tastes like the food in NY. That person has either never eaten in NYC, or ate something I didn't. NONE of the food I had in the buffet was ANYWHERE close to NYC chinese food. A frozen dinner would have tasted better. Beware this place. read more

Great dinner spot. I wish we had a Chinese joint this good in my town! I can,t comment about their buffet but dinners were xcellent. We had chicken curry which was VERY well balanced and fresh ingredients. We also had a lamb Disney and the meat was excellent. We have never seen a lamb dish at a Chinese resteraunt so we were most impressed. Good service. Give it a try! read more

So after driving for 10+ hours, I decided to go to a Chinese restaurant. Hunan is pretty good for its location. I ordered the steamed rice, and it appeared to be microwaved. I didn't want the fried rice since the rice used was probably leftover rice. The orange chicken was ok. The sauce used real orange peel (yay) but it wasn't freshly cooked since when I bit into a large hunk of chicken the center was actually cold. Boo! Also, they used canned mushrooms but I didn't hold it against them since mushrooms are perishable and their business isn't that popular. read more

Very good food and nice staff. I get Hunan's....A LOT when I am in Kearney. They are quick and I have yet to be disappointed by a dish. The only thing I found weird was you have to ask for utensils if you are not eating there. I usually always have to get mine to go and there have been a few times I forgot to ask. Still, great food and nice people! read more

The staff was friendly and we were treated well- even during a lunch rush. It is inexpensive, as others mention, but I would not go back if it were free. We went during the Sunday lunch rush. The food should have been fresh and hot. It was warm to hot- but all the sauces were watery, lacking flavor, and the food was soggy (In particular, I am referring to their dishes that are similar to orange chicken). Usually things like orange chicken, and similarly prepared dishes, have a slight crispness (or firmness) under a caramelized sauce. These dishes were immersed in a watery sauce while on the buffet- yielding soggy food. The egg rolls were good- but sadly, the sweet and sour sauce was watery too. They have all the ingredients for success, except a good cook. read more

If you are looking for Chinese food ....don't go here....go to the grocery store and buy frozen. So dissatisfied with the taste of this food... Management took no responsibility for the quality of their product. read more

I just ate lunch here and feel like I swallowed a gallon of radioactive slop. I'm not even sure if the good I ate was chicken substitute or cat meat. I will actually be more surprised if I don't vomit. I would have given it 2 stars if they gave you complimentary pepto bismol when you left the restaurant. read more

As good as it gets for Kearney. The buffet is awesome their soup, appetizers are excellent. Great egg rolls, wontons, crab ragoon is passable. The buffet is really priced reasonably and includes all the apps i mentioned, 3 soups, tons of 10-12 chinese dishes. Their rice is excellent. I base Chinese restaurants off of: 1) egg drop, wonton soup; 2) fried rice; 3) egg rolls; 4) quality beef/chicken used; 5) quality and variety of sauces of their food - are there distinct flavors among the dishes; 6) friendliness of staff. Hunans manages to do a good job at all of these. I can give a 5 without hesitation. p.s. compared to their competition (a few blocks over - K_ng's buffet) they are like a filet mignon compared to that crappy place. read more

Decent Chinese food for Kearney, NE but nothing special for elsewhere. Good alternative to fast food.

Hunan's lunch buffet is so good. Great Chinese food, always fresh, lots of options, great price. I hate eating Chinese anywhere else because it's never as good. read more

Wasn't very impressed. Had the spicy fried shrimp and could have been better. The crab Rangoon was pretty good. Perhaps I'll try the Buffett at lunch time. read more

Flower steak, hot sour soup, ma po to fu, walnut shrimp. Order that and u'll be happy :))))))))

Not good. Took forever to get our food (and we called ahead). The food was runny and flavorless. The meat was a bad consistency. Tons of MSG that made our tongues tingle & feel swollen. Ewww. Never again. read more

Great Chinese food for being in Kearney, NE. They offer a nice lunch buffet for a great price. One of the few buffets that I will go to. My favorite dishes are the Spicy Green Beans, Moo-Shu pork and General Tsao's Chicken. read more

this was probably one of the worst experience and food in my life I ordered orange chicken which was supposed to be fried it tasted like a sponge the the rice was not salted or seasoned the sauce was very overpowering which would lead me to Believe it was canned or pouch stored and the worst of all the Manager he was so rude and acted in a way that I felt that I was being threatened and this in not comment from a karen I am 16 guy just trying to enjoy food with friends read more

I went there for lunch today and got the buffet. It was typical buffet fare, not that great but it was cheap and filling. The furniture was pretty uncomfortable and could really use an update. The service was ok. I will probably not be back but it was ok for today. read more

Pretty standard chinese lunch buffet. Everything was clean and service was good. Bathrooms could use some work, not dirty, just not aesthetically pleasing or with hot water. We came in at the end of the lunch rush so food was under filled. We still managed to get full so no complaints. If hankering for chinese buffet I imagine I would return. read more

I really wish today's experience was better. I used to love this place but the last two times we have been it's bad. Several things on the buffet are amazing (pork egg rolls, crab Rangoon, garlic chicken) but my shrimp and the egg drop soup smelled so badly like bleach that I couldn't eat it. Last spring was my last visit before today and I thought the cleaner/bleach smell was from my water. I can't go back. The bleach smell in the food is too strong. read more

Hunans is great. The buffet is pretty good for the price you pay. The staff is very nice and quick to refill drinks. It would be nice if they refilled buffet items a little closer to closing of it. It goes till 2:30, but by 2pm they pretty much stop putting anything fresh out. Even if it is almost gone. This is my main complaint. read more

Lunch buffet! But, mediocre food. Everything was bland and sauces were watery. Would not go out of my way to eat here again.

Hunans in Kearney is the best. Fresh products put out all the time. I love the greenbeans.........

Best chinese food in the whole state. Fast and friendly service. Personal favorites are General Tso Chicken, Double Sautéed Pork, Vegetable Lo Mein, and Spicy Green Beans. Hot and sour soup is another favorite. You wont be disappointed. read more
