Zero customer service worst I think I've seen in a long time ! the food was covered with plastic lids which made it soggy and disgusting . The food while having little to no flavor tasted like it had been reheated not fresh how it should be . Our server or lack of was not friendly nor did he do anything to make our lunch any better !! The "New" Hunans is very good. It was sad how the previous owners had drug it down, but the new owners and new menu have brought it back to a go to place. Menu is totally new, with several new dishes. Beef, chicken and shrimp, no pork at all. Crab rangoons some of the best we have had. Steamed rice includ, fried rice 1.50 up charge. read more

Compared to what it was when the original owner had it, it is a shadow of it's former self. At this point it's been passed around so many times that the classic recipes are lost, and the new menu is just more boring mall food court Chinese. Went there with my boyfriend today, I had never been there he was there all the time as a kid and said it was really good but it had new owners so he didn't know if it would be the same. We ended up getting the buffet, the food tasted very bland and just wasn't good at all the buffet looked like it has been sitting out for a long time and wasn't very full ethier. This restaurant USED TO BE so good. I went there today and I was so disappointed!! First off the selection of main entrees and soups decreased from two steam tables to one. Second, the entrees all tasted the same. It tasted pasty and processed. Where is all of the homemade meats and amazing sauces? Where is the wonton soup? Crab Rangoons? Please, they were tiny, chewy, pieces of cardboard with no filling. The egg rolls had the same disgusting processed taste as all of the entrees. I don't know, maybe they hadn't changed their fryer oil in a year. At a buffet I can find something to eat usually. We tried entree after entree with utter disgust. As one plate of disgusting food after another piled up on our table, a waiter stood and scowled at us instead of picking up the plates. We tried salvaging our $14.95 per person with soda and dessert. However, the desserts were processed cardboard brownies and cream puffs. A trip to the restrooms sealed the fate of this review. Why did they go down hill so much? Never Again!! read more

Usually, I only come to Hunans for their lunch buffet, which is always a crowd and belly pleaser. But their take out is Top Notch! I dunno how they get it to be so hot! (this is a good thing, honestly, I sometimes choose to dine at places so my food doesn't get cold). I placed an order for take out and they told me it would take 10 minutes (arrived precisely then and it was ready!). What I got was perfectly freshly cooked food. Honestly, even with the outside temperature below 0 and the time I took to get home, this food was still hot, I had to make sure to not burn my tongue. This place used to be the place to go for lunch buffet. It was always very busy and fresh food was a must, so you could count on it being made fresh very consistently. This was the first time we had been back in town during the buffet hours. I don't know if management changed or what it was but it is now terrible. They removed about half of the food options and the ones they do have are not very appetizing at all. The price has increased by about $5/person. One of the drawbacks to living in Nebraska is that the local folks like their food bland. Hunan is very successful but caters a bit too much to local tastes. They do, however, have a secret Chinese menu, one written in Chinese characters and meant to please the pallet of Chinese diners. Ask for it. The quality of food here is the best of the Chinese restaurants (note-- NOT THAI) in town. It's better than King's, way better than Imperial Palace (that place in the mall), and better than the place next to Cafe Vibe. But I've only been once with the wife, because.... IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO GET INTO FOR LUNCH! Seriously. We tried 3 times, and only got in once. That should tell you about the popularity of the place. Great dinner spot. I wish we had a Chinese joint this good in my town! I can,t comment about their buffet but dinners were xcellent. We had chicken curry which was VERY well balanced and fresh ingredients. We also had a lamb Disney and the meat was excellent. This place is not worth your money. I was extremely disappointed with the food. I ate the buffet lunch and seems like everything was watered down and flavorless. Honestly I almost could taste the cow dung in the water run off. They either don't wash their dishes properly or the water they get to cook everything tastes like shit. literally. Save your money, time, and tastebuds and just eat somewhere else. Someone else commented that this food tastes like the food in NY. That person has either never eaten in NYC, or ate something I didn't. NONE of the food I had in the buffet was ANYWHERE close to NYC chinese food. A frozen dinner would have tasted better. Very good food and nice staff. I get Hunan's....A LOT when I am in Kearney. They are quick and I have yet to be disappointed by a dish. The only thing I found weird was you have to ask for utensils if you are not eating there. I usually always have to get mine to go and there have been a few times I forgot to ask. So after driving for 10+ hours, I decided to go to a Chinese restaurant. Hunan is pretty good for its location. I ordered the steamed rice, and it appeared to be microwaved. I didn't want the fried rice since the rice used was probably leftover rice. The orange chicken was ok. The sauce used real orange peel (yay) but it wasn't freshly cooked since when I bit into a large hunk of chicken the center was actually cold. Boo! Also, they used canned mushrooms but I didn't hold it against them since mushrooms are perishable and their business isn't that popular. read more

The staff was friendly and we were treated well- even during a lunch rush. It is inexpensive, as others mention, but I would not go back if it were free. We went during the Sunday lunch rush. The food should have been fresh and hot. It was warm to hot- but all the sauces were watery, lacking flavor, and the food was soggy (In particular, I am referring to their dishes that are similar to orange chicken). Usually things like orange chicken, and similarly prepared dishes, have a slight crispness (or firmness) under a caramelized sauce. These dishes were immersed in a watery sauce while on the buffet- yielding soggy food. The egg rolls were good- but sadly, the sweet and sour sauce was watery too. As good as it gets for Kearney. The buffet is awesome their soup, appetizers are excellent. Great egg rolls, wontons, crab ragoon is passable. The buffet is really priced reasonably and includes all the apps i mentioned, 3 soups, tons of 10-12 chinese dishes. Their rice is excellent. I base Chinese restaurants off of: 1) egg drop, wonton soup; 2) fried rice; 3) egg rolls; 4) quality beef/chicken used; 5) quality and variety of sauces of their food - are there distinct flavors among the dishes; 6) friendliness of staff. Hunans manages to do a good job at all of these. I can give a 5 without hesitation. p.s. compared to their competition (a few blocks over - K_ng's buffet) they are like a filet mignon compared to that crappy place. read more

I really wish today's experience was better. I used to love this place but the last two times we have been it's bad. Several things on the buffet are amazing (pork egg rolls, crab Rangoon, garlic chicken) but my shrimp and the egg drop soup smelled so badly like bleach that I couldn't eat it. Hunans is great. The buffet is pretty good for the price you pay. The staff is very nice and quick to refill drinks. It would be nice if they refilled buffet items a little closer to closing of it.
