Never been a huge fan of lentil soup, but they gave me a sample and it was awesome. A lot of good flavor packed into a small bowl. Chicken kabob plate was on point. Been eating flame and skewers so long it's good to try a new Mediterranean place in town. Hope this business lasts because I want to keep coming back. read more

The hospitality was amazing, very sweet people that operate the restaurant. Definitely the best chicken shawarma that I have ever had and the salad was full of flavor. I was offered a free cup of their lentil soup and it is my new favorite. This place beats all of the other restaurants in town if you're looking for this type of food, i'm glad i decided to stop by to check it out read more

Every single bite was better than the one before. Super tasty, fast and cheap. Ask for the hot sauce!

A truly wonderful restaurant with tasty food, great service, and friendly owners. We were able to try a sample of the lentil and chicken soups--both are amazing. We had the chicken shawarma plate, which contained hummus, salad, and rice; all items were full of favor! Furthermore, the owner went out of his way to ensure we were satisfied with our meal. We felt welcomed and left Hummus Express completely satisfied with our first experience. We will be retuning--very soon! read more

Healthy, Delicious, and Affordable with great customer service! The owner / chef puts a lot of love into his food and you can tell it when you eat it. Each dish is perfectly balanced and spiced and there are options for both the meat eater and vegetarian in your group. I'm very particular about food and this is a very exciting find in Bakersfield. Whether you're looking for authentic Mediterranean cuisine, a healthy meal on the go, or something flavorful to please your palate, Hummus Express is a great option at an affordable price. read more

Wifes first time eating at this place. All our food was great as we ordered a few different items from the menu to take home and feed my small army waiting at home. Will definitely be coming back. Loved the falafel. Best I've ever had in bako read more

Hummus Express is great place to go for delicious fresh Mediterranean food. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma and my husband ordered the Kufta. It was delicious. We have had the lentil soup and a green wheat soup in the past. Both were delicious and filling. The staff is friendly and the owner takes a lot of pride in his food. We love the fresh ingredients. I highly recommend. read more

Good food, good prices. Just the right amount as well. They don't go to crazy w/ the spices like most kabob places. The real stars here are the French fries! Extra crispy, reminds me of the ones at the crazy Greek in baker ca. Really slow when I went, which is a shame. Go to this place people. Before it goes the way of the do do. Like most hidden gems in this town. read more

It was so delicious. The young man working the register had great customer service as well. I definitely have to come back and try the other dishes on their menu. read more

First time here. Great tasting food. Very friendly. Tried the falafel. It was very good. I recommend it to family and .others

Not the most friendly, the cashier never smiled, and didn't put a fork or napkin in my bag to go. I ordered the chicken shwarma plate with hummus, came out to 10.51, portion size not big enough for that much, and my pita bread was hard. I did enjoy the taste of the food, but the experience really dulled my desire to return. read more

Found this place on yelp and went for dinner last night. After ordering the beef/lamb shawarma plate, the owner brought me lentil soup which I would never order. It was really great with just the right spice to it. I look forward to getting that and a sandwich for lunch in the future. My dinner was great! If you like flames and skewers give this a try, you'll love it! read more

Hands down the best place for Mediterranean food. I recomend the beef kabob it's so good. And their hummus. I had flame and skewers for the first time yesterday and Hummus Express is 100 times better so I'll stick to them. read more

Can't say enough great things about this place. We normally go to Flame and Skewers and thought we would try something different for lunch. Boy are we glad we did. When we arrived we saw one of the owners hand making fresh fatayers (think that is how you spell it). The woman who took our order was extremely nice and very friendly. Our food was different from the typical Mediterranean food we have had in the past, but very good. We tried the fatayers, since we had never had one before and they were delicious. Their falafels were excellent. The whole experience from the food to the service was great. Prices are reasonable. We will definitely be returning. read more

Food is okay i just think this place should move to a bigger location, when the lobby is full no one can eat comfortably therefore i get my food to go instead of having to sit between a lot of people, i do recommend their Fattoush salad but other than that i do t like much from the menu, the garlic sauce is WAY too strong and overpowers the food. Also what's up with the styrofoam containers for hummus to dine in? a simple plate would look much better the styrofoam gives it a cafeteria vibe. If i could do half a star i would everyone in the back is loud and can be heard in the lobby if you don't like much noise along with the super loud music they play save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. read more

Staff was friendly, very helpful to my 6 yr old daughter. The food was better than flames and skewers, in my opinion. The fries are a must try. read more

Excellent. Ordered the beef kabob plate and the kufta plate, plus a side of falafel. Outstanding. Fresh cooked. Meat is not over done and not chewy, melts in your mouth. Falafel, light, not dense. Delicious. Friendly service. Will definitely eat here again read more

Yum, authentic and good. Tried the shawarma plate, falafel, and kufta. The rice was great with little bits of meat and vegetables in it. Reasonable prices. They also gave us some free soup to try, both were good but I especially liked the lentil. Tried the trio of sweets; my favorite was the baklava made with pistachios. read more

The best Mediterranean food in town. Service is great, everyone is pleasant, and the food is outstanding.

After reading all those reviews, my family had to try this place out. Unbelievable !!!! Cleanest restaurant I have ever seen. Ordered the hummus and both swarmas, both excellent and you can taste the freshness and care given to each dish. The owner gave us samples of the soups they carry, off the hook goodness. We just moved into our new house around the corner and this place is our new spot. Congrats on a great business and we will be regulars from now on read more

Nice little Mediterranean food place :) great hummus and he even brought out complimentary soup which was excellent Highly recommend this place read more

Interesting place. The people are very nice that run it. Ordered the lamb and beef Sharma plate, side order of falafel, and lentil soup. The meat was a little chewey on the sharma but good. The sides that came with the plate were a salad, rice and hummus with pita. They were good. You got about 8 falafels on the side order for $2.49 which is a good value. I could not eat everything. I felt the falafels could have had a little more seasoning-they were a tad bit bland but the sauce that came with them made up for it. After seeing all of the 5 star reviews I think I set my expectations a little too high. Don't get me wrong , the food was good-just not "out of this world". Probably could use a little help in the decor department but I won't hold that against them. I will go back and try something else, will most likely be the chicken kabobs. Prices were in the "good value" range. read more

Very pricy not that good of food and service was not well at all . There was not a big crown and it look clean.

great environment and homey feel. loved the bible verse on the wall! the food was delicious but still not as good as Pita Paradise lol. i'll probably come back at one point. read more

After eating at Flame & Skewers for years I was introduced to Hummus Express and I have not looked back. I LOVE the food, the owners and the employees. In fact I am now an addict. I have to eat their food at least once a week. It is one of Bakersfield's best kept secrets... you will not be disappointed. Faves are chicken schwarma and kabobs, garlic chicken fries and all of their soups. read more

When this place first opened I wanted to support their new business. I went with my husband many times, sometimes even twice a week. We would order Kebabs plates, Hummus, Arayes, falafel, Tabouleh Salads and even shawarmas. I tried just about every dish including his lentil soup fairly decent; however, the issue with this soup is they will not serve the soup properly on a saucer/small plate under the bowl. This is basic! Instead they will bring the bowl to you which makes it very low class as if you are in a picnic, not a restaurant. I mentioned to them several times as a constructive criticism to help them better present the food, but nothing change. Now for the food, the kebabs lamb/beef or single they are average because they barely use spices and they lack consistency. In fact, what made my husband and I stop going to the place was the fact that one day, after many many, I mean many visits to place to the point we knew their names, the owner, his children and wife. That day, because we have experienced the lack of consistency on all the items, that day, I asked the owner to please add a few more spices and I named the spices due to the fact I know Mediterranean food. His reaction was horrible when the cashier went on the back and asked him, he basically rudely said "No" to her and my husband and I heard and noticed. Not sure why he reacted that way, maybe knowing the fact spices are pricey. That day, the food again was missing the authentic spices and the food was blend AGAIN. The vibe was indeed terrible because the owner's behavior towards our request; in fact, he did not even come out to talk to us as he usually would do. Now what is worth mentioning is their website says: "Your input is important to us because satisfying your hunger is our top priority." So it is unfortunately that the owner/cook does not accept constructive criticism, we tried because we want them to do well. In sum, their food is average with not much to it. In fact, is a copy of the Flame & Skewers restaurant where the owner previously work. Now if you know good authentic food and is looking for certain flavors of authentic Mediterranean Food don't even bother to go there, but if you do not know the spices and the flavor and you are an average Joe, their blend inconsistent food will do it. FYI: Religious signs on his wall is not appropriate, after all a restaurant is not a place to express religious faith as it does exclude others. It makes others not welcome. The owner is very headstrong. Now if you are looking for an Authentic Mediterranean Food in Bakersfield the most flavorful is HABIBI, AUTHENTIC MEDITERRANEAN CUISINE on Wible Rd. read more
