Nice place with a lot of selections. Reasonably price. I went for lunch and had the chicken swarma (?) sandwich. It came quickly and tasted pretty good. Inside is simple. The music wasn't my style, but didn't detract from the meal. You can order to-go. I ordered in and was pleasantly surprised the sandwich came on a ceramic plate. This is the second time I've been here. The first time it was very good and this time is was alright. I'd have to give Hummus Express 3.5 s. The hummus was very good but the shawarma wasn't as good as the first time. Consistency is key in the food industry so I was a little disappointed this time around. The first time I had it, it was worthy of 4.5 s but this time it was only worthy of 3 thus he 3.5 review. I will update my review on my next visit. Hopefully Hummus Express can redeem themselves because I love Mediterranean food. read more

I looked forward to trying Express Hummus. My son went to get the Falafel plate for me. No one was in the store when he arrived. I took 30 minutes to prepare the to-go order. People came in after him and were served first. Unfortunately, it wasn't until he made the short 3 mile drive home that we noticed the falafel, the fries and pita were all cold. Not warm, but cold. Leading me to believe it sat during that 30 minutes and was forgotten. The falafel taste wise was very good, and fries looked great and i never got to the pita. It's a little restaurant (almost a hole in the wall) but, like many small places, it's a hidden gem. We had the beef/lamb Shwarma plate and falafel side. Favorite Mediterranean food in Bakersfield! Locally and family owned. I have never heard better hummus anywhere else in my life! Also a big fan of their rice. Hummus Express doesn't give you the best first impression. The tables and chairs are mismatched; the walls need a fresh coat of paint; and several of the lightbulbs in the overhead hanging lamps need to be replaced. However, upon receiving my food and seeing the bill, I was a believer. For about what I spend on a burrito at another famous fast-food chain, I received a plate overflowing with meat, rice, salad, and hummus. My Beef and Lamb Shawarma was warm and flavorful, and paired wonderfully with the pair of sauces that came on the side. The large bowl of lentil soup was addictively good. While the overall quality of the food was more-or-less on par with some of the other similar Middle Eastern restaurants in town, the sheer quantity and value for the money was top notch. I filled up and had more than half of my meal left over for tomorrow. When I inquired about the cost of an extra piece of pita, the kind man behind the counter just patted me on the shoulder and brought me another piece for free. Not to mention that Hummus Express lives up to its name; we received our meal in about 2-3 minutes. While a weekend renovation may spruce up the place aesthetically, they don't need to make any changes to the food or service. I think Hummus Express will be my go-to place when I'm craving a good, quick Middle Eastern meal. read more

The location isn't super exciting and well-decorated like other popular Mediterranean restaurants in the area. The food isn't as consistent as I think it should. I typically get a chicken shawarma sandwich with fries and there's been times that it has had a funny taste and other times it's been great. Prices are decent, food portions are average, and customer service is great! A few things I would recommend: spruce up the atmosphere-possibly get rid of all the fluorescent lighting? But it's lentil soup that I crave. And Hummus Express has some of the best! If you've never had lentil soup it's a lot like split pea soup but not as thick and a little more chunky. While there are a massive amount of types of lentil soup, the kind at Hummus Express is the one of which I am most familiar. It's warm, hearty, and does my body right in this stormy weather. Flaming Skewers has the best ever crinkle cut fries, they are out of this world. I'm not a fan of Hummus Express' double fried fries. My daughter prefers Hummus Express beef kabobs.
