The best Dr hands down. Actually cares about his patients! Literally the best Dr I have ever known!

Every time I visit this physician, I leave feeling as though my concerns are an inconvenience rather than something deserving of thoughtful medical attention. He comes across as disengaged, uninterested, and seemingly more focused on getting through the appointment than genuinely listening to the patient sitting in front of him. During my most recent visit, I attempted to discuss several ongoing health concerns, including significant anxiety, insomnia, exhaustion, and previously identified low iron levels. I specifically raised questions about checking my ferritin levels because I wanted to better understand my iron stores, particularly in the context of changes in my menstrual cycle. Rather than feeling that my concerns were being explored or even acknowledged, I felt dismissed with the explanation that my iron levels looked fine. I understand that physicians have clinical expertise, and I am not expecting a doctor to agree with every concern I raise. But I do expect a physician to listen, explain their reasoning, and engage in a meaningful conversation about my health. There is a tremendous difference between providing a medical opinion and making a patient feel that her questions are not worth discussing. I also scheduled this appointment after specifically informing the office that I needed to discuss my mental health concerns and the possibility of FMLA and short-term disability. Only after waiting for the appointment and arriving in person was I informed that the practice does not complete this paperwork for mental health conditions and that I would need to see a psychiatrist. This was information that could have been communicated before my appointment, saving valuable time during an already difficult period. What makes this experience particularly troubling is that it is not isolated. It is the repeated feeling that I am talking to someone who has little interest in hearing me. And while I am hesitant to attribute someone's behavior to race or gender without knowing their intentions, I would be dishonest if I said those questions haven't crossed my mind. As a woman of color receiving care from a white male physician, it is difficult not to question whether unconscious bias could be contributing to the way my concerns are received, especially when I consistently leave feeling minimized and unheard. I cannot speak to Dr. Beckman's intentions. I can only speak to the impact of my experiences. I should not have to work this hard to feel heard by my own primary care physician. I should not leave appointments questioning whether my concerns were taken seriously. And I certainly should not feel that advocating for my own health is an inconvenience to the person entrusted with helping me manage it. Patients deserve more than a brief examination and a referral. We deserve compassion, curiosity, communication, and the basic dignity of being listened to. After multiple disappointing experiences, I have lost confidence in Dr. Beckman's ability to provide the kind of attentive, collaborative care I need. I am sharing this because no patient should repeatedly walk away from a medical appointment feeling invisible.
