For my very first review of the year, I'd like to write specifically about Dr. Paige Ward, one of…read morethe doctors here at this practice. I cannot stress the importance of a good support team when you're a new parent. It takes a village to raise a child but when it's just you and your hubby, a phenomenal pediatrician saves is a lifeline when you have those sleepless nights worrying about your child. As a proud first time mom who has absolutely no experience raising children, I had a lot of questions when my baby was born. How do I hold her? Is that noise coming out of her normal? is she supposed to be cross-eyed? She coughed. Does that mean she's sick? And so many poop questions. You'll be surprised how much you learn about poop and gas and farting when you become a parent. As a mom who has a special needs child, my concerns are a little different than some other parents. I have to worry about her ability to breathe on her own, swallow, and hold her head. I have tiny white hairs on my head that basically serve as a timeline for when I get the most stressed and how long I've been stressed. Routine checkups aren't typical checkups for us and after 2 months of being in and out of the hospital, I can confidently say I've lucked out with one of the best doctors in Augusta. And I'm so grateful she's looking after my daughter. I have seen Dr. Ward practically once every other week and she has never once made us feel rushed, uncomfortable, or uneasy with anything that was going on in the exam rooms. She walks in with a big warm smile (in a very timely manner by the way), listens to every concern you have, handles your child like they were her own and pushes for the best possible treatment options for your baby as well. She asks if your opinion on any other doctors seeing your child and really encourages you to open up 'cause as she likes to say, "this is what I would do if it was my child." We always walk out of the office feeling confident and uplifted because our daughter's doctor has never once let us down. We go home with more knowledge, a game plan and a follow up plan every single time. It's the best feeling in the world knowing that someone so amazing has made it their business to make sure your kid is their top priority. And it's not just when you're in the exam room. We've received follow up calls at home and at the hospital from her personally because she's just that compassionate. All doctors should be like her. If I won the lottery, I'd pay beautiful people to shower the ground she walks on with rose petals like in "Coming to America." And yes, she really does deserve it.

I cannot thank her enough for being my child's Dr and that she takes such good care of us, explains every thing that she says so that I can understand it, and she also talks to my daughter and holds her while she is talking to me with the biggest smile on her face . every person that asks me about a good Dr I recommend then to her! Thank you so much Dr Ward for everything you do. I can't thank you enough!

I WILL NEVER TAKE MY CHILD HERE AGAIN!!!…read more I advise you not to either. My son was a new patient at Augusta Pediatrics Associates. He saw Dr.Coleman. I expressed my child's developmental issues to the Nurse, which I repeated to the Doctor when he came in. I also expressed that I'd just moved from Atlanta to Augusta to have more time to cater to my son's needs. Dr Coleman greeted me, and his first words were verbatim: "Who has said the word autism around you.' I was taken aback and very appalled because I don't live under a rock. Instead of being as rude as he was, I nervously said, "Social media."Autism is very common today, so it was taken as a jab at my intelligence. So, after telling me he sees signs of autism in my son, in the same breath, he stated he could not diagnose him. He told me all the occupational therapists in Augusta have long waiting lists. He stated he would send a referral to the Marcus autism Center in Atlanta, Ga. If you don't know, they have a year-plus long waiting list. He didn't provide any further resources or even bother to prescribe for me to do my research and find care. He was more eager to vaccinate my son than he was to focus on his developmental Needs. I ended up having to take my son back to Atlanta just for a doctor's appointment with his original pediatrician. She offered me an array of resources as well as written prescriptions to get my son seen by an occupational therapist wherever I liked. I've since found an occupational therapist in Augusta with no wait list. I would give them no stars if I could.

I love this place. I've been going here since my daughter was 3 yrs old and she'll be 7 in 2 weeks…read more My sister referred me because her kids have been coming for about a decade. Every doctor, nurse, and staff is always so nice and helpful. We love Dr Barrientos, and she treats my daughter and nephews and nieces like family. Truly such a frustrating experience from the first phone call on, I wish I just listened to my gut…read moreand didn't waste anymore time going in circles with these people. They're obsessed with their own office policies and have about 6 people working the front desk. If you want to speak with someone in person, then turn around and leave in your car to then have a second person call your cell while you are not 5 minutes away with no understanding or realization that you literally just left there and just spoke to someone - then this may be the office for you! My child hasn't been seen by a pediatrician in about 2 years. Apparently they can't see her for a well visit until they receive medical records. I don't know what they're hoping to find in these medical records but they are 2 years old at this point. She doesn't take any medicine. She hasn't had any surgery. I guess they don't believe me and want to be sure I'm not lying? Maybe there's been a lot of people trying to get fraudulent well visits? It does feel kinda crappy to basically be told they don't believe me. Are they expecting to discover something in her medical record and then block us from scheduling? Because that's the impression they were giving. My problem was not so much this policy as the fact that they had to tell me about it 8 different times. "She can't be seen for a well visit until we get her medical records, but you can make a sick appointment!" Okay so I made a sick appointment and they told me she wasn't sick and that she needs a well visit. Then they agreed to book a well visit based on having seen us for a sick visit but then they immediately called to take it back. Honestly I don't have time for this back and forth it just makes me think this office is gonna be a huge pain to deal with.

It's tricky to review a hospital because if you need it, it's not like you really have ALL that…read moremany options to choose from. Such is the case with the Children's Hospital. We started a very long day at the other local ER before they transferred us to the Children's Hospital for my son's injured arm. We arrived here around 1:30 or 2pm on a Sunday so we figured it would probably be busy but didn't really have any other options since non-pediatric ERs don't have the right setup or expertise for dealing with young kids. The waiting room for the children's ER was honestly horrible. There were parts of the ceiling not fully in place and half the lights seemed to be out, or it's just incredibly poorly lit. It also didn't really appear that they clean or sanitize the waiting room much(if ever); we saw zero cleaners come through during our 6 hour stay. The wait itself was not great, we waited an hour or more to get an X-ray, then an hour or more to get put in a room, then at least two hours before the doctor came back with a diagnosis and treatment. Lots of waiting, mostly in that awful waiting room, but I will say the staff both at ER check in and the nurses and doctors and x-Ray techs were all very kind and helpful and professional. I think it was just the way an ER is on a Sunday- busy and a little overwhelmed. The bathrooms are shared with the regular ER at Wellstar MCG and were nasty nasty. I was glad my son was at least in diapers and didn't have to deal with that. I wish they'd sanitize the waiting room. We all ended up with a nasty bout of Norovirus after the visits so bring extra soap and hand sanitizer and activities for young kids that involve minimal touching of surfaces.

The Best Pediatrician in Augusta, Georgia!…read more I've had the privilege of being in the presence of Dr. Harold J. Acevedo. He has seen all four of our children 4,8,13, and 14 over the years. Our first visit with him was in 2010. We have a son with a reflux problem and a daughter with special needs. Dr. Acevedo was always there four us. It was hard changing formulas three different times but that didn't stop until Dr. Acevedo was satisfied. During my observation, he hasn't made any mistakes. The new practitioner Ashley Dahlmann FNP-C and the old one Kilauna Edwards A.P.R.N., NP-C have been fantastic. I can't forget about M.Pena, L.Smith, and D. Russell thank you. Currently, we are a homeschooling family and have been the past five years. Our last pediatrician was not helpful and understanding when it came to homeschool. Dr. Acevedo frequently made statements such as my hat goes off to you, the children are beautiful, and keep up the good work! He will support your family when it comes to pediatric needs. I don't know what we would do without him or his encouragement every year. Thank you so much Dr. Acevedo!
