I first went here in November of 2025 to see a dog I really wanted. Well they lined us all up in order and didn't stick to that order at all. Other people noticed and were also upset about it after I talked to them to clarify if the same this happened to them. The dog was adopted by a different group of people. I have adopted with them before. I drove from two hours away after working a long night shift and waited outside of their building for over an hour. I went in and they looked at my application and then looked at my ID. It stated that I'm under 21, which I am, and the lady at the front desk exclaimed loudly, overdramatically, and rudely, "You're not over 21?!" Before getting up to go tell who I believe is her supervisor. I hear from ANOTHER ROOM "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" Everyone out there, including me, could hear that. It was an embarrassment. I was confused because I was able to adopt previously a few months prior with no issues. They were extremely rude to me this time and said that someone approved it that shouldn't have. Okay, don't treat me like crap because you didn't train your employees right or make sure they checked everything on it. That's on you guys, not me so don't act like it was my fault. Then when I ask a simple question I get snapped at for no reason. I will not be returning to this establishment. Multiple workers are rude with no reason. They don't answer the phones EVER and don't return your calls even if you leave a message with all of your information. Extremely frustrating, embarrassing, and disappointing experience. If they would've answered or called me back DAYS ago this would never have been an issue and I would not have wasted my money, my gas, my time, and my sleep schedule for this crap. My relative worked for you for a long time in the past and when I told her about this, even SHE said it's because you are all unorganised! read more

I love this animal shelter. A few things that earned it 4 stars. 1) it has a private parking lot 2 the staff is super friendly 3 they try really hard to adopt their pets 4 they do great things for animals around the community 5 they do a lot of charities 6 staff does hard work for the shelter 7 they love volunteers 8 they let you let the animals 9 their adoption fees are ridiculous Some bad points 1 it does smell all the time 2 they don't have an inside drop off for people who dump their pets off in the middle ofthe night so these poor animals stay out in the cold at times 3 I do believe it's a kill shelter but I could be wrong 4 they don't have a lot of animals which is good I suppose but not good if you're looking for an animal I love to bring my daughter in hear and just per the animals and look at them. Some are sad to look at but most dogs are super happy. I'd recommend getting a let from here. We have loved our shelter fur babies. read more

My neighbor's dog Kiki started off his life as a street dog from Allen County area before my neighbor's son and his father adopted him from the Allen County SPCA 6 years ago. Now he is "College Graduate" after matriculating at Obedience University and receiving his Dog Obedience Degree! Muzzle Tov! There were some "ruff" spots during the semester, but the neighbors father and I were right there to make sure that he wasn't barking up the wrong tree (or trying to "go to town, on my leg", or hump his fellow students). Please please please. . . if you want a dog get it at the ASPCA! We adopted a dog here in August 2014, and it was the best move we've ever made. The process was simple, and everyone was very pleasant and caring. The prices are very reasonable, and a lot of things are included like spaying or neutering. The dog we adopted was obviously well cared for, and he has been an incredible blessing to our family. We can't wait to go back and get a second dog! read more

I love the concept of SPCA, but this place is so poorly run, it seems like they could possibly do more harm than good for the animals, especially the dogs. I called to report one of their dogs that we adopted biting my 6 year old child in the head and wanting to return the dog on December 5th because he needed to be placed in a home without children. I did not receive a response to my original message until December 12th and when I did get a response, the person was completely unaware that I had already discussed this matter with someone and it wasn't resolved. I just assumed she knew this when she called me. Prior to this, I had spoken with a staff member named Stephanie and I was treated like a criminal and told that there was no reason why my dog couldn't be placed in a home with another child and there was no reason why I should return the dog and was giving up too easily. She would not listen to me and when I told her that the dog attacked my child and bit him in the head, she told me I was wrong. This conversation with Stephanie occurred on December 5th when I called back after my initial message didn't receive a response. Once the executive director became involved, it seemed to get resolved, but she did not respond to me until December 12th, even though I had spoken to Stephanie on the 5th and then the person responding to my message on the 12th called me after the executive director and told me she had to go through 67 messages and that's why it took her a week. Something is definitely wrong with this system. Luckily, our dog was not a constant threat and it was a one time incident where we were able to just keep him apart from our child while this was resolved, but it is ridiculous it took as long as it did. It was devastating for my children and hard on the dog because by the time we took him back, he probably forgot he bit my child and is probably so confused. It was bad enough that the dog bit my child, but to be treated so poorly as a result made it even worse. Think twice before adopting a pet here, especially a dog. The communication between staff is horrible and I really hope our dog is placed in a home with adults. That's what they said they would do, but I have so little trust in Allen County SPCA now, that I don't know what to think. A sad situation became much worse when I was just following the contract of calling them if there was a problem and we needed to return the animal. It was just horrible. To me, it seems like some major staff changes need to occur. I hope they can make some changes there because saving the lives of animals is very important, but I just don't see how they can give them the help they deserve if this is how things are run.
