I've never been a pet person but after a big breakup in which I had to let go of a dog I fell in love with, I realized I was a dog person and knew I wanted a special dog in my life. About a year ago, Owney and I stopped in at the Pet Placement Center to say hi. They recognized him and were so happy to see him happy and loved. They even took a picture of him. I can't say enough great things about the Pet Placement Center. They truly care about animals and want them to have their furever homes.

The Volunteer Coordinator Fran was friendly and thorough when speaking with me about the history of the shelter, volunteer options, and during the shelter tour. Each staff member said hello and introduced him or herself. Although a small shelter, everything looked clean and organized. This shelter is also a nonprofit and exists to help both the county and city shelters, Humane Society and McKamey, with overcrowding challenges. Can't wait to help walk dogs, etc!

Someone on TikTok made a mention to this place and when I discovered you can pay $17 to spend quality time giving affection to 30 cats looking for their forever homes, this was a MUST DO, NON NEGOTIABLE for me, lol. I purchased and reserved my spot online ahead of time at naughtycatcafe.com. Their hours are mostly 11am - 5pm daily with being closed on Monday's and Tuesday's. One noticeable rule that is mentioned by the owner/manager is to not pick up the cats as most of them have been recently spade or neutered. The main room of the cafe is a low key, rustic lounge. It's dimly lit for the benefit of a few of the residents. Veering to the right is an open space with couches and chairs for visitors to sit down on and plenty of window lighting for other cats to watch the happenings outside. I approached this one cat who was lying on her side and we bonded. I showered her with tummy rubs which she gladly accepted. Watching her closing her eyes in total bliss (and trust) had me feeling sentimental in the best way possible. It was pure joy to give this cat some cuddle time. This was actually my first ever visit to a cat cafe. I had heard about them occasionally, but never actually considered stopping inside one. But, this was the perfect time to take a break from my roadtrip travels, just connecting with cats (or animals in general) can have rejuvenating powers that is healthy for the soul. Overall, it was a blessing to spend an hour with some lovable cats. Too bad I'm not anywhere from the Chattanooga, Tennessee area but I am thankful that there are shelter/foster homes like this Naughty Cat Cafe to give them exposure to visitors who may consider adopting them, so they can live a quality life. I needed to get her retested. The doctor they sent in was a child. They also couldn't get the blood. They gave me a big pamphlet on how to do training at home and told me to come back. When I asked them if they had an older vet, they told me that was their most experienced vet and got quite an attitude. Luckily, the very next place that I went, was able to successfully draw her blood and gave me a positive diagnosis. Because they are a hospital, they don't carry heartworm prevention. I reached out and told them that the diagnosis was positive to see if I could get advantage multi that I needed. No response from the vet. Not once, not twice, but three times I have tried.

We then went to look at the treats aisle and noticed a handful of dog food bags that were on the bottom shelves had an accumulation of dried urine on them. Just something to note and advise to perhaps not purchase any items from any bottom shelf. In our entire visit, we also noticed no one greeted us, asked if we needed assistance, etc. We ended up leaving and headed to the Petco just down the road and had a much better experience there.

As a tiny Italian Greyhound, I mostly supervised from a safe distance, but the big dogs seemed to love it. For the humans, there are plenty of benches and seating areas throughout the park. You can grab a pint, relax, and watch the dogs play instead of standing around a typical dog park. They also offer treats, toys, and other dog goodies if your human feels like spoiling you. For one, bartenders never left your drink on a ledge expecting you to just know that it's yours without acknowledging you whatsoever. And when you ask if the drink chilling by itself unattended is yours, you get some funny looks thats for sure. Because why would a bartender who knows how quickly roofies can happen just leave your drink unattended? It takes me a minute at most to get from the door to the park down the stairs to the actual park. I think it's plenty reasonable to wait until the dog is in the park before giving the customer their drink. I'm not carrying a beverage while my 60lbs dog drags me to go play with other dogs. I'm also just confused? For the first few visits I had staff reassuring me that my dog was fine and he's not breaking any rules. Then it's like a switch flipped, particularly with one staff member, who asks me to seclude my dog or leash him every single time I come at this point. I watch my dog and would already put him in a leashed time out to calm down if necessary and I've done it before without being asked to. My dog is two years old. So he still has learning to do and I'm working on that with him. But I'd really love for the staff to show me a video of the allegations that my dog is biting other dogs or grabbing them by their ears. Because it would be a crazy thing for him to only have this behavior at this particular bar and nowhere else. I think it's crazy though when other dogs lock into my dog and play right with him, my dog is still the problem and needs to be isolated. I wish I could say that I was just being a pick me and wanting things done my way, but I absolutely wouldn't even bring my dog here if he had any sort of dominance or behavioral issues. My dog was attacked twice by a dog at this bar, and the aggressor dog went on to attack another dog before the lady who owned him decided to leave. But again, my dog is a problem right? I think this bar caters to the apartment complex and friends of the people who work there/own the joint. If I do decide to come back here it will probably be to join a friend, but I don't know that I'd want to come back here on my own accord.

I've helped organize a couple of food/donation drives and have had the opportunity to view the facilities. Everyone I've encountered on staff are super nice and so thankful for anything you can do for them. One of the cool things they have for a donation drive is a machine that is preset to take a $5 donation on a credit or debit card. Super easy to use and that $5 donation goes a long way. Just a $5 donation provides 20 meals for families who need some help.
