Initially hired to do a plastering job but they also hung my drywall. This review should be a 4 star plastering, a 1 star dry-walling.
The actual plastering required sanding in several places when they were finished which, while not extremely uncommon, deducts a star. Other than that, everything looked fine.
Now...the drywall. On first glance, everything seemed fine. This was my error. I thought I would not need to scrutinize as much but should have gone over everything with a fine tooth comb.
To start, they covered an outlet which I had to try to find. When contacted, they said "They'd come back if they needed to but my guess would be as good as theirs. If I did any damage trying to find it, they'd fix it."
OK, that's fair and I'm fairly handy so while that was annoying, it's not the end of the world. I was able to find it and fix it.
Next, above my door opening I realized that there must have been a lump (probably a nail or just a loose piece of plaster) that wasn't removed during the drywall hanging and instead of fixing it, they just powered through and attached the drywall right to it. What's the result? The result is that above the door where trim goes, there is a wildly uneven gap that has to be matched by the trim. That is not an easy task and it's a worse fix. The only way to fix this is to cut the section of wall away and find what is kicking the drywall out. This would require more plastering and could be a big mess.
Also, I know it was an installation error because this drywall was being put over older plaster and the older plaster did not extend past the door frame. Maybe it was a more difficult fix and maybe not. Regardless, I could have been informed and the decided upon method was unacceptable.
The final nail in the coffin was last week (which spurred the review) when putting in my lights I noticed a dead neutral. Ran a signal on it and it was dead in the ceiling between two boxes. Obvious cause-it was hit by a drywall screw. This wire was EXPOSED prior to putting up the drywall. It was an ideal situation to NOT hit a wire, and they still hit it. Had to call the electrician to fix everything because I was hoping to fix the issue without causing any more damage. That's another $100 gone.
All in all, the biggest issue is going to be the bulging wall. That will cause the most headaches and is just really sloppy work. While the plastering was acceptable, the drywall work was part of their responsibility and it was just not up to snuff. If you do use these guys, don't let them hang drywall. read more
