CertaPro has completed two outdoor jobs for me. They are easy to contact for an estimate, and honest about their capabilities. Most recently, they re-stained our deck. To put it mildly, I was disappointed by the work. My suggestion to all, if you get any paint contractor to do work, plan to observe their work ALL THE TIME they are there. The following are some examples of the lack of professionalism of this company (maybe it is valid for all paint contractors/workers, this is the first time I used a painter). 1. Lack of communication between office and field supervisor: First question supervisor asked on arrival to job was what colors I wanted. I had informed the office over a month before (including having a phone conversation when I didn't get confirmation of my request within 5 days of my email) and my selections were never communicated to the Supervisor (nor, obviously, did he inquire of the office, either). 2. The Site Supervisor was barely around the project during the entire two days. 3. I have little doubt that many surfaces did not receive what I would consider a proper "two coats of paint" per the contract. Or their definition was little different from going over the same spot with the roller twice. The crew was always more attentive to their work when I was outside walking around looking at the work. 4. On second day afternoon, as I was standing in front of the house, as was the Supervisor, I observed two of the men painting the last three second floor shutters for the first time (the existing paint was very faded, so obviously was first coat to cover). They finished up rolling and detailing the shutters, as I moved around to the left side of the house to observe the high ladder man doing a section that had been missed, then came back front to see men starting to put ladders away. The Supervisor saw me and immediately told the men they still needed to roll those three shutters again. But the long ladder was being used, so he told the worker to put the roller on the long extension rod to reach up to the shutters from the shorter ladders. A man tried this, and the swaying of the long extension roller was obviously hard to control and ended up touching a window and the siding of the house (getting some paint on each). The Supervisor told them they had to get it cleaned off, so the long ladder was brought around, and a worker did clean off the errant paint from the siding and window, and then hand rolled the rest of the shutters. Note, no second detail painting was done (i.e., the top, bottom and side edges of those shutters were not painted a second time for sure). read more

Mostly very good, but we did find 2 items that had to be attended to after we took a final "walk around". Both were handled quickly by Certa Pro. On the plus side Certa Pro did some minor changes to the scope of work that added value to the finished project. read more

Beware! They subcontract. The subcontractors they sent to our house did a horrible job and totally destroyed our aluminum awning by walking on it. The painting was horrible. There was paint and drips everywhere (on lights, shingles, our brick, etc). They also totally missed spots after supposed two coats. The owner did work with us and sent out another crew who fixed the paint where you could see the problems. (It took the new crew all day because how bad it was). They had to sand everywhere and did a good job making it acceptable They got the paint off the roof by scraping and using a power washer; neither of which is good for shingles. Also the original contractor destroyed our aluminum awning (leg went through it and bent it in several places) and then lied and said we told them they could walk on it. Why would anyone walk on an aluminum awning let alone put ladders on it? We filed an insurance claim with CertaPro who turned it over to the original contractor's insurance. Since the contractor lied, their insurance did not pay the claim. CertaPro did nothing to help. They should take ownership since they make a big show about having insurance and they, unbeknownst to us, sent subcontractors. They also need to make sure their subcontractors are professional painters and know what they are doing. read more

Recently Certapro Painters - South Hills, PA painted my aging mother's home in Bethel Park. We can't express how grateful we are for the rapid service, going beyond on prepping and painting the house exterior, and friendliness with excellent guidance. The workmanship by the crew was excellent, they arrived on time, cleaned up after them selves and we love how the house turned out. Also, we had multiple quotes and Certapro's was affordable and included more details than any other company we spoke with. Certapro's quote made us understand the project and the quality of the materials they would be using. You can see the difference with the before and after photos. It had been a long time since I'd gotten my store painted, and it showed. CertaPro came in with a competitive bid and sent Chris Leonard and his crew, who did an awesome job. There was a LOT of patching and prep work, but they took their time and made it look great, even a giant hole that had been put in our bathroom door. They were also very courteous to our customers, matched the old paint perfectly, and did cleaned up thoroughly after the job was complete. Well done! read more

We received a quote from CertaPro-South Hills which was higher than two other bids but we thought it was reasonable because of the paint they were using ( for an exterior stucco job) was the best choice (after much research) and they were going to do two coats. After the original subcontractor power washed the exterior he refused to apply two coats and said he was just going to do one thick coat even though my signed contract specified two coats. When I called the company they said they only meant one thick coat. When I talked to the sub contractor the morning he was to start he refused and told me he wasn't going to do the job and walked off. The production manager stopped by and told me they would just leave with no cost to me...kinda weird as we had a contract...but then later that day they called and said they had another sub contractor who would start he next day and apply two coats. Ugh! That crew was adequate. The estimator and production manager stopped by to check that application was adequate...Sherwin Williams recommends that Loxon XP be applied at 14-18 mils per coat (2 coats with overnight drying)...and the crew was a little light but they directed them to slow down to achieve a heavier coating. I had some incidental aluminum siding which I suggested they prime as recommended by Sherwin Williams which they did only after my concern. Some metals pealed off after they left...electrical boxes and cables which I spent a day repairing...as well as replacing a screen that was blown off during power washing. There was a lot of overspray to the ground and adjacent property which I tried to clean up. Overall we could not recommend this company. read more

I did get a number of other bids for the work and surprisingly they were the most affordable. I would use them again without hesitation. read more

CertaPro functions as a service that hires subcontractors for the work. If this had been at all transparent on their website, we would have skipped this process so that we could have actually spoken directly with the people who would be performing the work. Instead, we were promised work would be done, but it did not seem that this had been clearly communicated to the subcontractor who showed up to actually perform the work. The subcontractor was kind and courteous, but apparently had not agreed to perform the (admittedly involved) work that CertaPro told us would be done-and which we had agreed to pay for. We needed old peeling paint removed from a brick interior wall as well as containment of that dust, out of concern for lead (pregnant person and small child in home). Instead, plastic sheeting was haphazardly taped up so that dust was visible inside the home. No EPA lead-certified processes were used, though they'd been requested. The subcontractor was also unwilling to scrape the paint off the brick as discussed, stating that they could only afford to chip off the easiest parts. CertaPro echoed this reversal of what we'd been quoted. While the subcontractor was off for the weekend, we put on respirators and chipped off all the paint ourselves (which took hours but was not impossible). CertaPro, to their credit, did come in and assist briefly the following business day. However, our experience was lackluster-we had been promised a "crew" and containment and exposing brick and a 1-2 day process. We wound up with one person doing work I could do myself over 3 days (plus a weekend), and a scratched hardwood floor resulting from one person attempting to drag a piano we had stated multiple times would need multiple workers to move. Giving 2 stars since our subcontractor was friendly, started on time, and did good work on what they actually worked on. I would recommend people hire painters directly, not subcontracting services who overcharge so they can likely underpay their subcontractors and fail to deliver on promised services. read more
