I had two wonderful chairs repaired with Grines. One was a heavy antique chair from Asia and the other was a 40+ year old swivel desk chair. Grimes did a fantastic job repairing both. They were able to make the antique chair sturdier and repair a broken inset. The other had a full crack in the back and it now looks like new. inherited my great grandmother's camel back sofa and wingback chair. They were purchased in 1920 - I found the sales receipt. Grime's really made these look like new. Refinished the wood trim and legs restrung the seating sections and used a color that was perfect. I had the sofa done in 2913 and it needed refreshed so this time I did the chair as well. They take their time and make these antiques look like new. Well worth the cost since furniture made today won't last over 100 years!! read more

Very Unprofessional and Disappointing Experience I initially spoke with Grimes & Sams Interiors located at 522 Chartiers Ave, Mckees Rocks PA, 15136 (412) 771-6667 on June 6, 2025, regarding a restoration project. Today is July 31st, and in all that time, nothing was done to the piece. I never paid a deposit, but the item sat with them for nearly two months without any progress or clear communication. I called multiple times and was constantly told that Mr. Grimes was "too busy." When I finally got in touch with Mrs. Grimes, she seemed unsure whether they could even restore the piece at all--let alone give me a clear price. After some back and forth, I was quoted anywhere from $600 to $1200, if they could restore it. She even stated that if it couldn't be restored, I'd still have to pay an additional $1,000--with no guarantee. To make things more confusing, she told my Director the cost would be $1200 to $1600, which left me feeling misled and frustrated, especially from a company that claims to be professional and experienced. At this point, I requested to have my item returned to me for pick-up today, July 31st, and took it to another reputable professional with over 50 years in the business. They took a deposit and promised to have it restored in 7-10 days at a cost of just $295 to $310. I would strongly caution others--especially Black small business owners--against working with Grimes. In my experience, they were unprofessional, disorganized, and unclear, and I felt taken advantage of. I hope this review helps someone else avoid a similar situation. read more

Having furniture repaired and refinished by Grimes and company was an excellent experience. Two pieces of furniture in dire need of repair were picked up by Wayne and his son. They were both very focused on taking care of how they moved the furniture into and out of the house and onto their truck. Mr. Grimes explained all that would be done with the buffet that had some base problems that prevented it from being moved without lifting it. When the furniture was returned it looked so fine and we were so happy with the stain and the finish. All of the interior was finished as well. The furniture we have has a quality that is difficult to find now, so it was very much worth putting the money into repairing the furniture that we had instead of replacing it with something that would not be as nice. We're grateful that Grimes Interiors exists and is capable of such fine work. We would choose them again and again if ever in need of furniture repair. Just beautiful! read more

We had a brand new kitchen installed in the Fall of 2022. Styles and colors change so we needed new counter stools to complete the kitchen. I searched high and low for stools that would complement the kitchen and also be as comfortable as the ones we had. No such luck..The stools we had were solid wood and we purchased them 21 years ago from Berger Furniture. They were of good quality. We decided to bring them to Grimes Interiors. They are truly miracle workers..... They stripped the old wood, stained/painted them black. We chose a grey fabric for the seat. The upholstery workmanship is outstanding. I could not believe how beautiful and updated the stools came out. I believe we made the right decision because the quality of furniture is not there anymore. I had grimes interiors do custom made lampshades for older lamps. They also rewired the lamps and did pick up and delivery. The lamps were large and I didn't know how I could safely transport the to their shop. The also ordered and installed remotes for several lamps and lit topiaries. I want to thank everyone at Grimes Interiors that worked to repair our antique table that was damaged in our move to Pittsburgh. We were devastated when we saw it on the moving truck. All 4 legs had been broken off (and not a clean break at all) due to poor packing on part of movers. We really didn't think we would be able to save the table. We found Grimes on line and they came out to our storage unit. Dwayne was friendly and very knowledgable about the type of table we had and said it could be repaired. I am so disappointed. I had spent 1600 to have a small secretary refinished over a year ago. It turned out beautiful but the piece was in the shop for a year. When my cat scratched the door I called to see if they could fix it (expecting to pay whatever price) , it was a 2 inch scratch. I dropped it off in August 2019. Called in October- very busy, called in December also very busy. Emailed in March-no answer, also in June, July and August- backed up due to coved. Except they had it 6months prior to any lockdown. It's a 2 inch scratch. Finally I picked it up and will take it to someone else to fix. read more

Grimes specializes in reconditioning, repair, and restoration of furniture and antiques. We found this business through a mailed adverstisement, and decided to use them after researching several other businesses and asking several friends. We have a number of furniture pieces passed down in the family with unique histories. Many of the items were well constructed, but sustained severe damage over the past 100 to 200 years. Our concern was being able to pass the pieces on to our children and grandchildren, but if not repaired, reconditioned or in some cases refinished, we wouldn't be able to do so. We toured the business with Dwayne, the owner, to get a sense of what actually is done and the capabilities. It was a great learning experience and Dwayne really enjoys teaching others about their work and capabilities. If a piece has limited damage, it may only need slight repair and cleaning. Other items may require creation of a missing moulding or parts. Grimes maintains a stock of period wood pieces from various species of wood so that they can match wood and age of wood to the item being repaired. In the case of our oldest piece, it was disassembled, cleaned, repaired, reassembled, and refinished. This was necessary as the drawers were falling apart, the bottoms had warped, and hinges were stripped. The workmanship has consistently been outstanding. Many of the items we have had done were considered by others as trash and nearly ended in a dumpster or yard sale. Each piece has been brought back to life and look amazing. The are now all conversation pieces. The one item had a large crack that had been repaired by someone in the past, but was unsightly. Grimes corrected this repair and we are completely unable to tell where the new repair was done. We found this business to be outstanding. The work will take a while and but that is important - it isn't rushed. This isn't an issue for us, since broken pieces can't be used anyway. Prices vary by piece and the amount of work required to done. We can also say the business is honest. In one of our pieces, a few personal items from an ancestor had fallen deep into the furniture's crevices. The items, dating from the 1860's, were found upon disassembly. The items were wrapped and returned to us with an explanation of what they were - and these items were indeed of major value to us. We will be using Grimes again and have no hesitation in recommending them to others. For the record, we work in a field were we must always disclose any conflicts of interest and so are used to doing this. We certify that we have no conflicts of interest to disclose. Grimes Interiors brought back to beauty a family piece that had been stored in an attic in Titioute for many years. It looks like new, really lovely. They stuck to their original estimate and they finished the piece earlier than expected/predicted. They picked up the piece and delivered it when completed. They quickly answered, in a helpful way, every e mail, message and phone call. I could not be more pleased than I am with my beautiful refinished vanity and my family members feel the same way.
