They have no regard for cleanliness. I was waited on by the clerk, instead of the butcher. She proceeds to reach into the case with her bare hands to retrieve the bacon I had requested. I asked her to wear gloves (she handles money), and she got extremely rude and loud, saying that if I was going to eat it raw, then she would wear gloves. She said it several times. I told her no thank you, I don't want it. I did purchase some pre-packaged pork cutlets and when I went to the checkout, she snottily asked me if I wanted a wet wipe after she had given me my change. I said no thank you, just as snotty. I will not be going back to that place again. Oh, and the cutlets had zero flavor, even though I seasoned them. I ate one of them and threw the rest away. I called your establishment on thursday, November 14th to inquire about your prices on your ribeye steaks. The nice lady informed me that you had an awesome deal where I could get Australian ribeyes as thick as I wanted them for $11.99 a pound. I explained to her that I need four of them for a family gathering. I then called Friday, November 15th to confirm that I could still get the $11.99 price if I came on Saturday. She assured me I could and again I reviewed with her what I needed just to make sure. So, on Saturday, November 16th I came in to your store and I told the man behind the counter what I wanted and informed him that I had spoken with a lady about getting four Australian ribeye steaks for $11.99 a pound with each being around an inch thick. He reaches down and throws an a whole loin down in front of me on the counter. I explained to him once again what I needed and what I had been promised on the phone. He then proceeds to give me a rude attitude and tells me that he is not going to honor that. I kindly insisted that I received what I had been promised over the phone. He really tells me that he's going to go get the manager. A couple of minutes later another man walks out as if he is put out with the situation. He then proceeds to never make eye contact with me or talk to me about the situation and cuts me four steaks of the sorriest looking ribeye that you could ever imagine... No wider than a New York strip steak. So trying to compromise, I asked him if he will cut a couple more to make up for the fact the steak wasn't even large enough to fill a grown adult. I was treated as though I was a burden and I was lied to, as well. My family has dealt with Hughes Market for years.. we have bought our meat there and we have had many a deer processed there is well. The whole family was very disappointed in the quality of the steaks and we will never again give our hard-earned money to Hughes market. They were so rude and did not fulfill what I was told on the phone. Y'all should be ashamed! The stakes were tough and they had no marbling or enough fat to render it being tender. Very gracious under the current stress, allowing only 5 people in at a time, trying to comply with the rules. Prices very reasonable. Loved their chicken breasts & pork chops. Would be wise to call ahead during this time to make sure they have what you are looking for. Definitely going to make this a marketing stop. read more

I went in not knowing exactly what cut of meat would be best for what I wanted, and the guys at Hughes helped me choose and get a great cut of meat. great prices and good extra products like rubs and marinades to buy. I like to pay with cash anyway but definitely bring cash or debit to this store. read more

Very unorganized and rude. Advertisements bring people into unorganized choas, from the parking lot to people standing around while rude guys try to "direct" everyone. Never again. Why are they aloud to draw a large crowd standing around during these times?? read more

My 1st time going here. My daughter and my 2 year old grandson went with me since the grocery stores are so limited and expensive. let me just say from the time we stepped out of the car to getting back in, every SINGLE staff member was astonishing to say the least. From knowledge to courteous and my grandson just loved them all and they treated us like family. We got a huge selection of meat, great quality and great prices. Okay maybe they weren't the friendliest people that has ever waited on me but they were busy and they helped me alot. The meat prices were great and I really liked the fact that everything was fresh not frozen. I can understand why everyone talks about them now. I have always bought my meat at Big John's in Metropolis but now I shop at Hughes for all my meat. Dark haired man behind the meat counter with a beard was extremely rude to my husband when he asked about using his credit card. The sign is somewhat misleading and possibly confusing to some people. Then he ignored my husband and went on to entertain what seemed to be a personal friend of his that was buying meat for a local restaurant. He continued a loud conversation with his friend while totally ignoring us. Thirty minutes to get our order. Meat is definitely of good quality. Just not sure we want to return and be insulted by this redneck again! read more

What the previous reviewer stated is true. The gentleman with beard and gauges in ear is the owners son. Nowhere near as good with customer service as his dad. Most times acts as if he would rather not be dealing with you. Very good quality meats and pricing though read more
