However, both the company and Best Buy wanted to take it for at least a week without a loaner. I can't afford that computing loss. I ordered a fan directly, replaced it, but couldn't get the tiny plug to connect. I called a couple of companies close to me to find out if they could work right away. One said no, I could only drop off. Another gave me initial info, but then didn't respond when I had the fan. These folks are a bit more expensive but were always very responsive. I'm willing to pay for professionalism. I took it over and they found the fan's connector was cheap and had partially split. They were still able to get it connected and working, saving me the cost of yet another fan. They are friendly, knowledgeable and worth the money. FYI, they've merged with another company and you'll find them as NCSi on some sites.

That's where I went wrong, but where Mike at CDA Computer Repairs did right. These two towers are our primary systems. One has ALL of our pictures, that's over 20 years of memories. All of our kids pictures. Everything. So, it's imperative we get them running. Mike knew just what to do and jumped all over it. He had them done by the end of the day and was in contact with me for everything. He charges a very, very, competitive shop rate of $65 an hour, and even charges by the half hour which is something I've never seen a shop do. It's really great customer service! Something I admire, and is a "good to know" about how he runs his business, he is out of the door at closing. That's it. All calls go to voicemail and texts get read in the morning. Home is home and business is business. I admire that, a lot. Additionally, he takes recyclables. I dropped off an old Dell, and a network switch I had from my shop, and he took them in to refurbish. I'd rather see them go to his bottom line than see them in a land fill.

Two weeks ago, I replaced the ink cartridges, using knock-offs because Brother's pricing is exorbitant (for me). At about the same time, the printer began acting erratically, including horrible printing and then stopping altogether due to a message stating paper jam. I followed ALL the steps stated by Brother for "clearing the jam." Without any exaggeration, I followed those steps precisely not fewer than 20 times spread over 2 days, and tried all several other things such as cleaning nozzles, cleaning rollers, unplugging, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, etc., while frustration built. There was NO paper jam of any type, no staples, no paper clips, NO HELP FROM BROTHER (other than to send me the steps, again). I had been to Modern Office Equipment a few years ago with another printer, which they fixed, so finally took this one to them (now partnered with Royal Business Systems, Inc., located at 2717 N. Hogan St., Spokane 99207). Within 24 hours, they diagnosed my printer, found the issues (clogged nozzles, DUST on control tape which INDICATED a paper jam!) and cured the patient (100% operability), and for an incredibly fair and unexpected price! And honey on my biscuit, the two folks with whom I interacted (Reception/Intake AND the Tech) were as nice and pleasant as anyone I ever met. Today was a diamond.

They called later, and told us the bill was $90. $90?!?! We could have bought a new printer for that! We were billed for one hour of work. I didn't know people who cleaned printers made $90 an hour. I didn't have time to do the repair myself, as I was traveling to Spokane to help care for my grandmother. I searched the Spokane area for someone to complete the repairs with the parts I purchased, while I was in town. Shannon was able to fit me into her schedule quickly, and she was able to complete the work with the parts I purchased. During the test process after the repair was complete, she found that the cable that connected the motherboard to the screen had also been damaged. She quickly ordered a replacement part and installed it. 3 different businesses that I know personally have gone in and been treated rudely by the office…read moremanager. The first one had multiple and expensive prints done and they came out blurry, poor quality. She was offered a small discount if she reordered. Second business man went in and wasn't greeted. He had to say hello twice. Office folks acted like it was a big deal to deal with a walk in customer versus an online order. The third business person was myself. I called prior to coming in and spoke to a new front desk lady, explained what I needed and what I had . She said no problem come on in. When I came in the new desk lady said twice "I'm new and will need to ask my manager how to do this". The manager was sitting in a corner desk less than 5' away from her and didn't get up or offer any help. Th ends lady finally got up and asked the manager for help. Long story short the manager said the file was not correct and that I would need to download Canva Professional to get the correct file. When I asked questions she became upset, turned her back on me and threw her hands up in the air and said " I'm trying to help you and you don't listen". I asked her what caused her attitude and she didn't have any other answer except to make rude statements. I finally lost my temper and told her that she is so rude and unprofessional and that other business owners that we are in business group had also complained about her. She talked so much trash after I told her how I felt that I finally asked for all my paperwork back and told her to fuck off. It takes a lot to make me angry and neither myself nor the other business will ever go there again. I went to Staples in Coeur D Alene and was treated so well. What I needed done was accomplished with 20 minutes and with a smile. I didn't need to buy or download anything other than what I had provided the Minuteman Printing in Rathdrum.
