I have a small plastic panel on my convertible. It somehow got all tons of deep scratches all the way down to the primer. It's about a 2inch by 4inch piece. They quoted me $470 to paint it. The part from the dealership brand new and painted is $40. Wow I also used them before when I got rear ended at a stop light as my insurance recommended them. They drilled into the rear bumper plastic mount rather than line up the holes amd use the original screw. I went for pick up and my diffuser wasent installed. The guy told me it didn't line up. After removing and reinstalling the screws myself everything lined up. Apperently they clean the inside of your vehicle also because mine came back with white soapy residue literally everywhere. 2 of the worst experiences with this company and I will never go back​ read more

Use to bring all the company's work trucks here. Use to be Hughes. Use to be great. Now it's not so great. Employees used to be very helpful and happy. Now they seem absolutely miserable and all a sudden lacking happy customer service. Sad. Frustrating!!! Charged me $500 over quote for a used part (the quote was with new parts)!!! Failed to include previous features in the repairs. Big mess and inconvenience after they already had my car over a week. I had to wait over a month to get their mistake fixed! The most frustrating part is they talked to me like it was all ok. Hope they get it together and be great again like Hughes was. read more

The first time I had my car in there they did keep me informed when my vehicle was complete. The actual quality of the work was not impressive. At first look it looked good and they did repair the damage, however, when taking a closer look there were flaws. It was in there twice in the span of two months. The first time my vehicle was in there was because the passenger side truck bed panel was rear ended and need to be replaced. They did a fine job of replacing the actual panel. A few weeks after receiving my truck back I noticed that the fender flare had a gap in it (see photo). My truck was scheduled to go back into Hughes because I had been rear ended again (this time rear bumper needed to be replace). A light rear end collision that would not have caused a gap in the fender flare. Since my car was going back into their shop I called and spoke to Sammy to let him know about the gap and was told that it was being put into the notes, it did not sound assuring but I left it at that. When I received my truck back the gap that I had called about was still there. So much for putting in the notes. The second repair the rear bumper was replaced and the tail gate was not aligned so that was fixed as well. When I dropped my truck off for repair I actually let them know I wanted to point out that the tail gate misaligned when closing. I was again told it was being put in the "notes" but fortunately the manager was sitting in there and had someone come out and look at it. The tailgate was repaired but I noticed that it does need an extra little push so that it completely snaps into place to be aligned. This may seem like something small but I expect my truck back in exact same condition it was before being damaged. I realized I should have pointed out the gap in the fender flare when they were looking at the tail gate instead of leaving it up to someone to read the notes. My advice to you if taking your vehicle in for repair is to point out anything small details in person during drop off regardless if you think they want to look at it or not. Secondly, when receiving your car back take a close look at the replaced parts either on the spot or when you get home. The damage will be fixed but do not expect it to be flawless. read more

So, I probably would have just let this all go if I hadn't kept receiving texts from the shop asking me to "Review them" via survey. I also am not the kind of person that gives 1 star reviews so here's 2. Pasting below what I answered on the customer survey: The first time I came to get an estimate, I met with James. He was really nice and I appreciate him as a person. However, the shop team (I'll say team as I don't think 1 person should ever take the fall for a Entire system of poor communication) had me come in for an estimate when it was a guaranteed replacement shop on my insurance so they should have just taken the car in and whatever else handled between insurance. Since they were so busy (understaffed, can't be helped really and I had my baby so I would have liked to get out of there ASAP too) the man told me he would finish up my quote later in the system. This was a mistake on my end because I should have made sure I got the quote before I left. As such, I had to call twice to see if my quote had been put into the system and it hadn't been after a week. (10 days?) After I confirmed the quote was in and scheduled my replacement appointment, I showed up (already with my rental car) and they said "I don't know who scheduled you, but we never ordered the part." Again, I wait until I get rescheduled and come in a couple weeks later. This has caused a headache dealing with my insurance because the rental was originally for 7 days so I've had to go back and forth explaining errors that this shop made. Last, they called me at 5:30 on a Friday (if you just Google the shop it says they close at 5) to tell me that my car was ready. I said I couldn't come in the next 30 minutes so they said, "Okay, but just so you know insurance/the rental car will probably charge you since we are saying it's done today." How can you say it's done "today" when you call when you're already closed to tell me to get my car? Now this is another headache that I'm dealing with insurance on because they're trying to charge me $ for the car I had to keep over the weekend. Agh. But anyways, the work is done and my car looks nice. (Front bumper replacement). But I am not going back here for anything. read more

Hughes Auto Body does it again!! My husband and I have been using Hughes a few times in the past, when we have auto body damage. I wrote a review before and rated them off the charts fantastic. This morning I thought I would stop by and see if they could give me a quote on my back bumper area. My car sits low and when I went over a speed bump it jarred my whole bumper away from my car. Immediately someone came out and said "I could fix that" and they went and got their tools and within five minutes my car looked like nothing had ever happened. It seemed as though he got more pleasure out of it than I did, and I was shocked and thrilled about it!! My family and I have never had anything but great service from Hughes, dating all the way back to my dad's 1979 Volvo. They are super friendly, super on-the-ball, do great work, are accommodating, and work great with our insurance company. Brand new was cosmetically damaged and brought to Hughes by insurance. After a month of waiting, I was told the car was ready for pickup. They failed to address any sort of alignment/bent panels, despite having pointed it out several times during initial inspection. For example, the hood would close and hit another panel. They even replaced undamaged pieces with damaged pieces. The vehicle paint did not remotely match and was chipping. I declined the repair and they kept the truck for another month. It was returned to me with new dents and scratches in panels not from the accident. New damage was added despite the truck never leaving the Hughes lot, it was damaged four times on their lot. They matched the paint better, but it is still two colors. The paint is also chipping. I pointed this out, they said 'that shouldn't have happened'. I elected to go elsewhere, but realized now that many warning lights were on the dashboard. The electrical system had to be repaired after Hughes caused damage to it, a $1000 repair unrelated to accident. They attempted to pass shoddy quality repeatedly and provided no explanation for their horrible work. Please triple check the work they do for you, you may notice important issues they failed to address. Added note: Was told each week the car would be ready that week. The car was never ready that week, and I would only find out after calling them at the end of the day. read more

My experience for this place comes from when Santa Barbara Honda damaged the left side of my car while in the shop. Needless to say, these guys are the real deal. They kept their timeline, explained all of the repairs coherently, and comforted me over the phone that the car will be good as new, and boy it sure was. The fix looks great and it looks as if a dent never happened. Compared to the service at the dealer, this was superior. Not much else to say, but this place did a great job saving my car from a lousy situation, so great job Hughes! read more

Originally I thought this shop seemed reasonable. When I was given the final quote, I approved it, and then later when the car was done, it was more than the quote I had approved. After an hour on the phone with them, including the manager, they told me the only way I could have the car at the original quoted price was if they took two of the parts off of the car! Ludicrous? I was shocked that the manager even offered this as the only solution to their mistake of quoting a lower price than the total. Unbelievable! My car bumper was backed into and crushed. The person who hit me had insurance that had a 1 star rating. I was so bummed. I jumped through the hoops and then went to a shop for a bid. It was pretty high so I took it to Hughes. I forgot I had used them before. They were so professional and had no problem working with the persons insurance carrier. Gracia and Liz were on it. I was concerned I would get stuck with the bill but the assured me all was well even when I was getting text from the other parties insurance company that I hadn't sent photos in. My experience with this auto shop comes after the Montecito debris flow damaged my car. I rarely have experience with auto shops but I hear it can be a nightmare but let me tell you, who ever manages this place is doing a great job!!! Vanessa was extremely helpful and kind. Even when I couldn't respond to their phone calls, they kept me updated with emails and voicemails the entire way. Even after I had to turn in my 30-day rental from my insurance company, they let me use their lender until my car was completed. I was so pleased with my car when I got it back! Another thing I noticed independently of the service is that it appears this auto body shop is ran by females. That makes me even more happy and proud. Anyway, this place is great. Excellent from beginning to end. My car looks brand new. Recommended by Honda SB. "Smoothed out" pure dent in rear, and put new bumper on front to pre existing incident I'd been meaning to fix for a while now. I got 3 other estimates around town, and there's wasn't necessarily the lowest, but I trusted them, partly due to Yelp reviews TBH, that they'd do a good job. And hey did- even better than expected. I've learned the hard way that in terms of auto body work, half- measures (re going for cheapest estimate or just "patching it up" to save $$)can be very unsatisfying, expensive in the long run, and are essentially $$ down the drain. It's much better to get it all done in one shot. They also completed the work early- an added plus. Kudos to Hughes Auto Body. read more

Two stars being GENEROUS. It took two months to fix my car and there were scratches all over it when I got it back that weren't there when I dropped it off. They also didn't fix all the damage, just the major damage. My front right fender was dented with paint coming off my door and my headlight was cracked. They fixed the fender and nothing else and left scratches all over. Terrible service overall. read more

HUGHES: Maybe the best in Santa Barbara, but far from perfect. Let me first state that my expectations were VERY high before coming to Hughes. I religiously detail my truck, including waxing and claying- I know every dent, scratch, and paint chip like it was my own child. Read on for an accurate review and confessions from a true car nut- myself. So when someone backed into my front bumper (in a parking garage where I intentionally parked out of the way on an upper level), I was less then thrilled. Luckily the offender left a note and I pursued repairs through their insurance. Unfortunately, Santa Barbara has a less than stellar selection of auto body shops, but Hughes had the highest ratings on Yelp so I decided on them. As a side note, I previously had my bumper cover replaced before by some other nimrod that grazed my car in a parking garage. A Toyota dealership (Toyota of Carlsbad) body shop did the repairs in this instance and did a phenomenal job- they replaced the bumper cover with an OE new cover that was painted to match exactly to factory paint specs. Their masking of the grille was flawless, with a clear top coat applied that was smooth as silk- this is my standard of comparison to which I judge Hughes' work by. Hughes repairs, while speedy, fell short of the mark of professionalism and quality that I have previously experienced. First, whereas the Toyota dealer body shop replaced my whole bumper cover with a new piece, Hughes only spot-fixed the damaged area. Both repair places prices were the same, the damage was similar, but I felt like Hughes had much less value as far as repair quality. This is just the tip of the iceberg for these guys. Hughes' masking around a plastic inset in my bumper was uneven, with some tight corners covered in paint when they shouldn't have been. This indicates laziness and haste; the masking should be PERFECT- any quality body shop should know that the devil is in the details and that preparation of the painted surface is key. Also the clear coat they applied was rough in areas that had tight contours and curves, a far cry from the glass-like surface of my previous bumper paint. There is also some faint dust and debris that was trapped under the clear coat, an indication that a Hughes employee was not cautious enough and improperly cleaned the surface before the final coat. The icing on the cake, though, was the dust all over the driver's seat in my truck when I arrived to pick it up- tisk tisk. At least put a plastic cover over the seat- come on Hughes! You didn't think I would notice? In the end, the results were good enough and not worth demanding for a re-paint, so I settled. For me, Hughes is not good enough to recommend, but if you're in Santa Barbara and in a pinch, their repairs are satisfactory. Also, while their customer service was good, I wish the final product was a little better- after all, I'm stuck with my car, but not the body shop it was fixed at. read more

This is actually my 2nd time here and I would definitely come back for a 3rd (although I sure hope not!). I requested quotes from a variety of places through Yelp and Hughes responded quickly and thoroughly, which gave me confidence in their quote. Although they tend to be a little more expensive, you really get what you pay for. I was able to schedule the appointment online, as well as reserve one of their loaner cars. The work was done quickly (replacing a rear bumper), for the exact cost of the quote, and looked amazing when it was done. Professional, accurate, friendly, high quality service! Sometimes you need someone to fight for you when dealing with insurance companies and rental car companies. I had been a victim of someone hitting my car. Brought it to Hughes and they took excellent care of me. Fought with the other parties insurance company for me so I wouldn't be stuck without a vehicle to get to work and to pick up my kids from school. I have been soo happy with them that it brought me to tears after all the stress and headaches I've had to endure from the other parties insurance and also the terrible rental car service. I came here a month or so ago to get my driver's side mirror fixed. Since I live in Isla Vista, my mirror has been broken a couple of times due to people running into it. I have gotten it fixed twice in Los Angeles, and the garage over there made me replace the full mirror for about $120. When it broke again, I decided to look for a more competitive price here in Santa Barbara. I wrote down the names of three different auto repair places, and Hughes Auto Body was my first stop. I was helped almost immediately and showed the damage made to my car. The mechanic offered to fix the mirror with just two screws, at no charge. They did not make me pay anything at all, and my mirror is perfectly fixed! I truly had an awesome experience here, and will definitely come again. You can tell that this business truly cares about its clients rather than just trying to make money. read more
