History
Established in 1951.
Family owned and operated.
Hug Jewelers began over 120 years ago in the late 1880's when Andy Hug became an apprentice at Schemel's Jewelers. Around 1920 Andy purchased the business, keeping the Schemel name. Starting in 1932, Andy's nephew, Richard Hug, started to learn the trade becoming the second generation of the family business.
In 1940, after taking several classes from the Gemological Institute Of America, Richard opened his own store under the name Hug Jewelers. Shortly after, Richard was drafted into the Army for World War II. After returning from the war in 1951, Hug Jewelers reopened. Richard's unique view of the future of jewelry helped Hug Jewelers progress over the next 20 years. Ownership changed hands in 1976 when his son Larry Hug took over the store. In 1984, Larry's brother Steve Hug joined the business. Larry and Steve now share ownership of Hug Jewelers where they have been joined by Steve's daughter Jade Hug making four generations of jewelers.
