I swear, I swear, I swear am tired of my reviews disappearing off of Yelp. Years ago I wrote a…read morereview for this Mall, and at that time the mall was slightly better than it is now. Overall, this mall sucks giant donkey balls, but there are a handful of stores I go here specifically for. But especially since the shitty Carrs closed and the Sears has been sliced in half, the mall has pretty much imploded. I do like their "farmer's market" on Wednesdays and Saturdays when the weather is inclement. And since this mall is very centrally located and has ample parking, sometimes I pop in on my way home from work. But no doubt, if this was in an out of the way location for me, I absolutely would not go here. Honestly, they should just raze this whole place and start over since it's such a prime location. Good things about this place: Creative Chaos and Lemon Tree Gifts - literally two of my favorite chick gift stores in all of Anchorage. Burger Fi Steamdot coffee Fruitland Fresh And there's that stupid Nordstrom store that some people are so wackadoodle about. Fucking weird, but whatever. I run in and out of here as quickly as possible, because like so much of midtown, it's impossible to shop without being harassed by drunkards and folks with mental health issues. I find this whole place quite sad. But Creative Chaos and Lemon Tree keep me coming back. Sigh. But there's so much asphalt and vacant space, it's really depressing. Can we just tear this place down and start over, please?

I parked close enough to a door to make it in safely and saw a cart in the hallway and was so excited cause I could not get my walker out of the car to come in. I began pushing it around the mall and was so happy until the 2 female security folks began harassing me. I tried to explain why I was pushing the cart and they didn't have an ounce of empathy and wanted to take the cart from me. when I asked if I could at least push it back toward the door where I was parked, they would not allow it. I felt extremely humiliated and both of them were very mean and angry and were trying to instigate conflict with me, they were bullying me. This saddens me as I have enjoyed past visits but probably will never return again.

Planet fitness and Burlington will remain open. I am giving this mall 5 stars because of the childhood memories it gives me. I worked there in high school at the chocolate chippery. They sold cookies before Mrs. Fields ever came along. This was the hangout spot in the 70s-90s. Not much there now. I do like the Burlington. This mall will be missed.

Tragic. That is the only word I can think of when describing a place like the Northway Mall. This…read moreaging rundown mall was one of the premier shopping destinations during its hey-day in the 1980's. Businesses like Musicland, Chubby Chuckles (the better version of Chuck E. Cheese in my opinion as a kid), Safeway (before it merged with Carrs), and the original Orange Julius among others drew large crowds on the weekends. Now this place has the look of a post-apocalyptic zombie film with its dark, dimly lit corridors, empty storefronts, and drugged-out deadbeats off the street wandering aimlessly in the halls or sitting on the benches with blank stares. Actual shoppers are a rare sight in the hallways unless you go to larger stores like Carrs or the Burlington Coat Factory. There are some bright spots in the mall like Planet Fitness (which is a lot larger than the midtown location), Excalibur Sports behind the gym which is a great place to buy pro sports items like jerseys, flags, as well as tickets to sporting events anywhere in the country, and Hood Wings down the hallway which has a good selection of chicken wings on their menu if the craving hits. However, I can't shake the feeling that all these businesses are on borrowed time if the property owners won't make any effort to improve the mall and renovate it to attract new businesses and ultimately improve this part of town in the long run. Shoppers and diners are better off visiting the newer shopping center across the Glenn Highway next to Bass Pro Shops for a better leisure destination in the area.
