REALITY CHECK Apparently you are confused what's happening in the world. Your company's non existent customer service will make u a thing of the past. The situation: For lack of better judgement, I decided to try to give your website a chance buying an item that was clearly listed on sale. Then I proceeded to check out and the item magically switched to full price. I called the next day to explain the checkout glitch explaining to "the manager" I had screenshots, time stamped to show the validity of being within the one day sale time limi, clearly showing the website mistake but the Hudsons Bay company refused to honor the price that it was listed for. Not wanting to argue with unethical management I decided to find it elsewhere. On the many , many, many websites that carry the same exact item for better price and free 2 day shipping. All I have to say for you is thank God you guys dropped the ball on e-commerce. This will help a lot of people going through the time wasting task of contacting you with the exact same problem and getting no results. Anyone remember the mirrored ceiling in the fragrance department here before the big reno? I always got turned around as a kid because of it. Department stores these days just seem barren. Not because there's no one in them, there are people shopping, but because it seems like they can't afford to keep large amounts of inventory to fill up their large foot print. Eddie served me at the Bay in Chinook today. I wanted to return a polo shirt that I had gotten as a gift from my Mother the previous week. Tag was attached and I had a receipt as it was an online order. He wouldn't take it back since I didn't have the original card. The original card was in BC. I placed an order online on Aug 3. I received confirmation of the order via email. Aug 5 I received an email stating the order was cancelled. No explanation given but a phone number and email address were provided. That email also stated my account would not be charged. (The funds had already been debited from my account) I called the number and was not able to get through. I sent an email and have to this date still not received a response. I called the number again on the 7th. I was told that the order was cancelled because there was a discrepancy between my billing and shipping addresses and that someone had tried to reach me by phone 3 times. There were no voicemails. I was told that Hudson's Bay did not debit my account but had only placed a temporary hold for the funds. I called my financial institution. They told me the funds had definitely been debited from my account. I called the Hudson's Bay back and told them this. They told me the funds were scheduled to be returned on the 10th. No products sent or received and funds debited and then I'm made to wait for a credit when supposedly there was only ever a temporary hold placed. Makes absolutely no sense. Completely frustrating. I will not be ordering from Hudson's Bay online again. read more

I tend to do a lot of impulse buying at the Bay: non-iron work shirts when they are on sale (which is fairly frequently); a dozen pairs of soy cotton underwear when they were half off; a London Fog overcoat (returned). Impulse shopping on your lunch break is dangerous, and I am thankful for their lenient return policy because a couple of times I got home and wondered just what the heck I bought THIS for. As for the store itself, it is pretty empty of service and product: a lot of space left empty, possibly for aesthetic reasons. Avoid the fragrance counters if you don't like service because they will give you service, whether you want it or not. read more

Department stores are plagued by a lack of staff, specifically cashiers. I don't think I have ever been able to shop at the Bay and not had issues trying to check out: no one staffing any of the 4 available checkouts, long lines as the till is being operated by an 80 year old woman, then price checks because no one can understand the sale signage. If you are not shopping in the cosmetic department, it is always a headache. This Bay is clean and does have lots of great stock in housewares and clothing, but I can't motivate myself to go through the ordeal every time. My last Bay checkout experience was with my sister as she was waiting in line to by Bodium coffee press, there was one couple ahead of her and they were just buying a spatula. Should be simple. In, out, no complications. Of course the spatula rang up differently than the couple was expecting. So the old lady at the till called a price check, someone sauntered over to the till 5 mins later to see the item, then wandered off again for a good 10 mins. All the while the sales associate operating the till did not offer to ring my sister up while we waited for the spatula twins to find out the correct price. So everyone just stood around in annoyed silence until the price checker lumbered back saying that no, spatulas were not part of the housewares sale. The couple then decided not to buy the spatula. No apology was offered to my sister for having to wait that entire time. Maybe this level of service was ok when we were still trading furs for beads, but come on! read more

I agree with other reviews on here...major love/ hate relationship with the Bay. Most stuff is over priced but ok sales and nice product keeps me coming back (not that o shop here a lot). Buying shoes here can be nearly impossible. There's barely ever anyone around to get you a size. One time I just gave up as no one was in sight. Returned a stove top pot today as the paint had chipped before I even used it. I explained that to the woman who honestly could not understand the issue. I was exchanging it for one that was unchipped and she asked me 4 times if I still wanted another one. I replied "yes, I still want this I just want one that isn't chipped". "But are you sure!?" I'm like am I not making sense?? It was just odd! I think a better training program could be useful? read more

Wow - in short they are lacking staff & the staff that they do have is undertrained and not very understanding of customer needs. Upon walking into any department - it is difficult to find any employees. The women's shoe department was horrendous. I found a pair of shoes that I liked... In order to get a pair to try on, I had to ask the woman at the register because she was the only employee visible. She found someone to help me, but they kept bringing out the wrong shoe size. The menswear wasn't any better. No staff available, and when I found my items and was ready to check out the 3rd register visited was the only one open. The employee was clueless when I requested a rewards card and just ignored me. After checking out at his register, I went to the kitchen items register and got a rewards card. Whew - I really like their products, but it is so difficult to get them. read more

The Bay is a solid company overall, if they weren't they wouldn't still be operating since first opening their doors in 1670. They are Canada's largest department store and specialize in fashion, beauty, home and accessories from some of the best brands and designers available. With over 90 locations in Canada, some are definitely better than others. In my experience, all the The Hudson Bay stores I've visited are good but not all are great. The Chinook Centre location is one of the better locations because it's big, well organized and they carry a lot of new inventory from top brands and designers. Some stores get significantly less than others for brands and stock, but this location isn't missing much. Their beauty section is very prominent and one of their highlight sections, so it's no surprise that this is their feature entrance in the actual mall. Men and women's fashion are great as well, very large and tons to choose from from a wide array of brands. Shoes, handbags, accessories and kids are pretty good as well, but not as big a highlight as the formerly mentioned. Jewelry is a bit of a miss here for me, so-so selection and you're usually better off at a specialty store. Their home selection is pretty good as well, but their sister store "Home Outfitters" is an even better bet for this in most cases. Worthwhile mentions: luggage section is good, and they also have an exclusive Bay Company Collection section and Olympic Team Selection which are cool, especially for souvenirs/visitors. I have a couple knocks against The Bay, first off, the service. Despite carrying such a great inventory they lack a strong and knowledgable staff to stand behind it. This is most obvious in the fashion section. For example their men's section is great, but there's rarely people on the floor available to help and when you do find someone they're ill-equipped to adequately assist you. Sadly I'd get much better service at Tip Top and be more inclined to buy there based on that despite their poorer selection. That's the general theme for fashion shopping at The Bay. Beauty professionals are much better, home department are hit and miss, and jewelry are okay but as previously mentioned the selection is meh. My second knock is the prices, they're high! How you get around this is sale items and "Bay Days", you can do really well at The Bay with careful shopping but for everyday purchases you're gonna leave with a much lighter wallet. Lastly their wedding registry services are decent; you get 10% off which extends into a 1-year completion program. Luggage and mattresses get up to 55% off in the program IIRC. The Hudson Bay Co. is a great store overall, where it falls short is on service and on prices. But if you're a savvy shopper who knows what to look for you can do well here! read more

I was just at the Lancôme counter Friday night right before the 7:40pm movie, looking to buy my favourite mascara. The customer service lady pretended not to see me, so I waited for a minute to see if maybe she would look my way. Eventually I had to ask for help. When I asked her about the 10% discount sign, she answered with a bad attitude "it's 10% discount", I was surprised at her tone and arrogance. I simply walked away and purchased my mascara at a different store. I used to be a makeup artist with Christian Dior and know plenty about customer service to know when someone just hates their job. read more

I like tge bay but their customer service is joke to put it politely. My wife was just turned down by a dressing room attended saying that this dressing room is only for certain clients and labels. ..she was trying on dresses . The rack with sale clothes was just outside the dressing room. Here is some advice.. if you are employing young girls make sure you as a manager explain to them that first off the customer is always right.. second do t you dare make your customers feels secondary... stupid.. read more

Good price, poor service! Saved about $50 on a pair of Clark's winter boots compared to the Browns store downtown. Unfortunately we had them on hold and when we went to pick them up nobody was working in men's shoes at all. We waited for quite a long time before anyone came. Recently I wrote a review about an outstanding employee (Ina) of the Bay Chinook who gives customers excellent service. I would like to add another employee. I had written to the Bay about her last year, but apparently no one passed on my positive comments to her. Her name is Aileen. She works so hard, is always customer focused and is always helpful and kind. I really have a love/hate relationship with The Bay. I go in there because they have a great selection of HUE Denim Leggings, which are the comfiest things ever. But, it is the biggest headache finding an available cash register. Most either have nobody there or when you go to one, they tell you they can only ring in clothes in their section. Really? So just because I don't have something Calvin Klein, you can't ring me in? Seems kinda silly to me. It took me a good amount of time to find an open cash register, which made the experience slightly aggravating. I spent more time finding a cash register than I did shopping. Also, my mom once went to the watch repair area to get a new battery for her watch, and the man working it was one of the rudest people I've ever encountered. As soon as we walked up, he said, "What is it? I'm very busy" We asked how long it would take for a watch battery, and he said "No, not doing that. Too busy!" We left. A polite, "I'm so sorry, we are running behind, so we can't fix your watch today" would've sufficed. I get your job is stressful at times, but the attitude he gave us was unbelievable. The next day, we went to the Southcentre Bay, and the girl in the watch repair area was extremely friendly and helpful, and got my mom's watch done promptly. Ordered a 3 pack of men's boxers but received only a single pair. Only after their third reply did customer service acknowledge the ad was a misprint, but to make up for my poor experience I can get 15 % off my next purchase. REALLY. Although it remains a Canadian Icon, HBC is now sadly another member of some large conglomerate. There's quite a few locations in Calgary, although I tend to frequent the Chinook Centre and Downtown (TD Square) stores. I tend to prefer the downtown location - it tends to have more upscale items and the staff are a little kinder. It is also a little tidier - after a big sale, things can seem like a hurricane hit. As with other large department stores, the Bay suffers from a notable defect - it's just too big! It's got about anything you could need, but with the space, it's difficult to find staff, and in any case, they're usually not so on the nice/helpful side. Went to Chinook's Bay and was looking for a Kid's section. I walked all the floors but did not find any staff to ask where is the Kids Section. Finally found one girl, who even did not look at me when I asked her where is it. Not even turning back, she replied there is no Kid's section at Hudson Bay in Chinook. How come such a big store has almost no staff at all? We pay hefty price at Bay. Either add more staff or increase their salaries of the incumbent ones. read more

My husband wanted to 'treat' me to some perfume as a Valentine's present. Went to the Bay and not 10 seconds into the Department I was approached by a clerk asking if I needed any help. I told her that I was just looking for now. Not a minute later another clerk came up and asked if she could help me. I told her 'No, I was just looking for now" Walked over to another perfume counter and literally, 5 clerks came at me from all directions. My husband walked quickly to the aisle, I looked around at all these clerks zeroing in on me and felt like the last piece of chicken at a fox convention. I put my hands in the air and said out loud 'Back off" I am just looking. From that point we walked out and I went down the mall to Shopper's to pick out my fragrance. I was willing to pay the same price if not more, just to avoid the vultures at the Bay. Sad thing is this isn't the first time this has happened and I spoke with friends who say they avoid The Bay because of this. What's the deal? Commissions??? Being helpful is one thing . . . this was ridiculous. I really hope the Perfume / Fragrance manager and the store manager sees this and makes some changes. YOU LOST A SALE BECAUSE OF THIS!!!
