Custom cookies for our daughter's graduation luncheon. Delicious and perfectly executed!
    Rebecca L.

I first met Janice and Mike many moons ago when they had a table set up at a local mall to showcase and sell their cookies. I became an instant fan when I took my first bite of a Southern Pecan Caramel cookie. No kidding: it was love at first bite! The buttery flavor of their homemade caramel along with the perfect texture of the surrounding cookie (not too soft and not too crispy) instantly captured my attention. Since that time, my family and I have gone on to try most every flavor these two have turned out: original chocolate chip, caramel butter, cowboy, and others. Always consistently good, it is evident that high quality ingredients are being used in these recipes. About a year ago, Mike and Janice decided to open a brick and mortar store and we have visited them there as well. As friendly and welcoming as they were on the day we met them, Mike & Janice are wonderful contributors and supporters of the Jacksonville community and surrounding areas, always a plus for me when supporting local businesses. Our most recent experience with Flippin Good Cookies involved a custom order for some iced & decorated shortbread cookies which we gave as favors for my daughter's graduation party. We provided FGC with our "art" and they took it from there. When the box of cookies was delivered, we were so thankful that we had requested them in cellophane baggies with ribbon ties, or I think we would have eaten them all before the luncheon... they were THAT pretty and they were THAT tasty! The design was beautiful - exactly what we wanted - and the shortbread was, in a word: magical. Completely on point and had a delicious -- but not heavy -- buttery goodness. Bottom line: you will FLIP over Flippin' Good Cookies!

YUMMY!!! these cookies are delicious. I ordered the flower shape sugar cookies for a school event. The cookies were beautifully decorated and they tasted great. -Great customer service -Delicious cookies -Not over priced

First one-this was supposed to be purple and white.

The cookie cake that we got after corrections was great! Highly recommend them for the flavor and texture. The issue came with the decorations, that is why they got a 3 star and not a 5. If I had gotten the correct one the first time this would be a 5 star. My son ordered a cookie for his girlfriend's birthday and he didn't want the ordinary mall cookie cake, he wanted something special. He just had surgery on his ankle and was unable to drive so I volunteered to drive the 26 miles (one way) to pick it up. The cookie that he ordered was supposed to be extra icing with purple/white colors. That was clearly on his order. When I walked in and he opened the box to show me the cookie I was stunned. (I had to include the picture so you wouldn't think I was exaggerating) Yes, if you can be shocked over a cookie cake I was. It was nothing like what he ordered, it looked like a funeral cookie, not a birthday cookie cake! That wasn't the worst part, the worst part is when the man working tried to convince me that was purple. I said that isn't purple! He said, there are a lot of different purples, it wasn't specified which one and I replied, did you ask? Crickets...... I saw a lot of purples on their website and NONE of them looked like this. It was almost black, and the white wasn't white, it was a cream color, which I was told is the virgin buttercream color. It also didn't look like the extra icing one on the website, it has florets instead. Then the lady walked out and said, "I'm sorry you don't like my work". What?!? I said, "I never said I didn't like your work, why are you taking this personally?" What I said was "It wasn't what we ordered." The work was very nice, very cleanly done, it just wasn't purple and white! At that point she did the right thing, finally, and said she would make another one, but it would take about an hour and I agreed to wait. I think what ticked me off so much at first, was him trying to convince me that was purple, instead of offering a solution and not once, not one single time did either of them say I'm sorry. The takeaway from this unfortunate incident should be for the customer ordering, be very, very specific, maybe even point out on the website colors, borders, etc. The takeaway for the owners of the company, which I hope they take as constructive criticism. If you are going to do custom work, ask more questions so you can be sure you know exactly what the customer wants. Maybe even add color choices on your website, border choices or ask which specific one on the website they are looking at. Ask more questions! Don't try to tell a customer they are wrong, ever, especially when you know they aren't. And learn to say "I'm sorry, what can we do to correct it". I attached pictures of the first one, that is the black and cream one and then the one she made over, which is what it was supposed to be.

It was a little bit of a drive away, near the beach, and there was absolutely no parking on a Friday night. My husband dropped me off and circled while I placed a few to go orders. It was a cute little shop with donuts, shakes, and ice cream. The donuts are not traditional donuts; more like deep fried donut holes that are covered with all kinds of yummy toppings. They're also served nice and hot and in 10 packs. They had lots of cool donut flavors like: Dark Delight, Maple Bacon, , White Tella, and Love U Matcha, The prices range from $8.75 to $9.50 per box. They all sounded yummy; but we decided on Twix Fix, drizzled with caramel, melted chocolate, and cookies, and Lotus Crunch, which was topped with melted Biscoff cookies. Our order was ready in about 5 minutes and the bag of donuts was nice and warm. We ate them when we got back home. They were more chewy and heavier than regular donut holes, but rich and delicious. You could really only eat a few; so a box of 10 is a decent sized dessert for 2 people to share. Lukumades is definitely a very unique donut experience and worth supporting because they're not a huge chain. You'll be glad you tried them....and its worth the drive.

The ham was below average, with one hard bit. My wife didn't like that there was so little pineapple in it. Our Napoleon pastry was pretty good, and I might get it again ($5 for a small one). We both preferred it to the brownie ($4). I don't particularly like brownies, but this one looked particularly appetizing, and the order-taker said it was one of her favorites, so we tried it. That was a mistake. Perhaps I should have tried the mini cream puffs, which are a favorite of mine (3 for $5), instead. Among other things I usually like, they had carrot cake for $7 and a cup of cheesecake for $9 (which seems steep). Their fruit shaped pastries looked beautiful (and a couple next to us said they loved the mango one), but were $12 each. Their fruit-topped Danishes also looked delicious, but weren't available any more at lunch time. They also offer milk shakes and loaded (sweet) croissants. There are only four stools here next to a bar, if you want to eat in. The bathroom was pretty good. I probably wouldn't come here again, but if I were in the area I might try some of their other pastries or sweet treats.

The red velvet cupcake had a tempting cream cheese center that called my name, and I answered! It was not super sweet, a huge concern of mine, but just the right balance. I went in the late afternoon, so the cake, itself, was a little dry but the cream cheese center really helped it out. I will definitely be back for more on the menu!

The next morning, we had the sausage and scallion bun at home. I liked it, maybe more than the pork bun, and would get it again, though it had the advantage of being reheated at home in the microwave. Each item was $3-3.25, so a better value than the other bakeries I go to. I will return to this place periodically, but I still prefer places like Cruffin & Tea and Le Petit Paris, so I'm giving Mai Xiang Garden Bakery an average rating, 3 stars: pretty good, but not above average for a bakery, other than the good value.
