Service is excellent, server came by refilled our waters and made sure that we had everything we needed for our dinner. I recommend this place for all to come and eat. Food is delicious and cooked like your grandmother cooked it. Made with love! The ambiance is like sitting in your grandmas house, light country music playing on the overhead. Not to dark, booths and tables are separated so you don't bump your neighbor. I had the bison sausages with pan potatoes. Was delicious tasted very good. This was a much better experience than the last one. Server was friendly and knowledgable. Food came in a timely manner. Ambiance was lovely as usual - a country theme. Which included the music which isn't my favourite but suited the restaurant just fine. I had a gin and huckberry soda, which was tasty. I chose the salmon again since it was so good two times ago. My husband went with the fall special which was a beef brisket sandwich with fries. I picked the dill pickle soup for a side. Food was delish. Salmon was great. Veg was perhaps slightly overcooked but the salmon was not which was the important part. The soup was awesome. Hubby enjoyed his sandwich which I had a bite of. Wetaskiwin doesn't have many restaurants but they do have some gems! The Huck's Classic Pioneer burger was DELICIOUS! The soft fresh and tasty baked bun paired well with the fire grilled ranch raised Alberta beef patty. Classic burger. Amazing taste! I opted for a side of Huck's Classic Dill Pickle Soup - so good! A bit salty but to be expected with pickles. Lastly I shared a slice of Huckleberry pie with my husband. Not too sweet with just a little tart. You could see clearly the star of the dessert were the berries. Our server was prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant had a cozy country saloon type vibe. The restaurant is located in a small town in the country so it was very appropriate. They still had some cute Valentine's Day decor. I would say it's a family friendly restaurant. They had high chairs available. A couple of dishes could be made into kid meals though they didn't have a distinct kid menu. There were quite a few people eating during this Family Day holiday weekend. Honestly, if this place were closer to home, I would come back for the burgers and the pickle soup. Honestly the best group of people working there who are kind and actually love their colleagues and job. . 1) famous dill pickle soup and roast beef sandwich. ($11.99) ....loveee the pickle soup and keep coming back for it. It's nostalgic for me. The roast beef sandwich wasn't my fave. I'm so glad we decided to stop in here while out on our inspections! The place itself is pretty cute - They are going for a country/western vibe and doing a pretty good job! The food is soooo good; I went against the grain and instead of ordering the beef which I'm sure is amazing bc they are boasting a lot of ranch type menu items, I ordered a roasted vegetable quesadilla. It had asparagus, brocolli, red peppers, grated carrots, raisins and Brie and was served w a honey yogurt dipping sauce. It was really surprising how well all the flavours went together! My friend had the roast beef melt with a side citrus house salad / she also said her meal was amazing! I knew there was no way I could leave without trying he huckleberry pie / it was served w vanilla bean ice cream. What can I say. They are trying, they really are, but it's just not worth the price. Our server, from South Africa, was excellent and did an outstanding job but the steak was thin and the prawns were more like jumbo shrimp. If they are going for a BBQ/Smokehouse vibe then I suggest they spend sometime in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and check out the BBQ restaurants there. They could easily recreate the same type of feel. Still it's probably one of the better restaurants in Wetaskiwin. read more

A cold Sunday is a great excuse for Huckleberry's house specialty... Dill pickle soup! A mixture of vegetables, ground beef and in a thicker broth, I can see why it's offered up in jars to purchase for home... I guess you could compare it a bit to a sweet and sour soup but with a thicker broth? Except the flavour isn't quite as strong... Not to say it isn't flavourful in its own right. I had mine as a side with the bayou wrap... Chicken added for an extra $4.50. That with my tea came to just over $20. And left me satisfyingly full. Huckleberry's may not be the fancy pants local food some of us city dwellers are becoming accustomed to, but it certainly is wholesome, locally-sourced food that you can count on to enjoy! read more

Oh where to begin? First off, the girl who greeted us was a confused disaster. It took her over 5 minutes to figure out where to seat us in an almost empty restaurant. Once seated and getting a good look around, I noticed the decor didn't look any different than when they opened over 20 years ago. The stained walls, worn fabric and ripped vinyl on the booth seats confirmed this. Then I started questioning the cleanliness. My knife and spoon were crusty, and the plate in the place setting had chunks of something on it. Ya, ewwwwww. I'm glad I didn't need to use the restroom! Then... The menu.... It's as confused as the decor. It's all over the place in flavours. It has Tex-Mex, steak, pickle-soup? Oh we'll, I guess it tries to suit everyone? I made my choice and placed my order with the waitress, who was friendly and nice, but not very professional. When I got my food, as the rest of my table, there was no presentation at all, just food slapped onto plates and bowls. The food was tasteless, bland, and seemed like frozen dinners warmed up in the microwave. It's really sad to see how far this restaurant has degraded as it was really good back in the past. Don't know what happened, but, my previous review from June 2011 got dropped. This place is awesome, apparently if your over 30 years old and not hooked on Big Macs. Sorry, no Teeny-Boper/Rock/ Rap crap background music. The restaurant has a predominately Harvest motif, atmosphere and fare...you are in farm/ranch country after all, not in NYC or Holywood. The food is diverse and unique, ever have Dill Pickle Soup (the house specialty)? Today we had the Pulled Pork with scratch made Apple Slaw...Hickory smoked with clover honey BBQ sauce, a nice blend of spicy and sweet. All the food we've had at this establishment has been unique, different and tastey. Did I mention "Awesome"? You are welcomed by family not servers who are accommodating and friendly and always make you feel at home. The washrooms are always fresh and clean and greet men with Kleenex and moisturizing cream. I didn't use it but I haven't seen many men's washrooms with these extras out side of the Hilton. I classify this restaurant as Haute Cuisine with Family Restaurant prices...very reasonable. We're from out of town and drop in whenever we have time. If you appreciate different flavours than the usual Denny's or Ricky's then this is the place for you. read more

This is mom's favorite place to go to. Now I'm not to sure what style of food they are trying to serve but they try to mix it in with a southern feel with literary names from Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. They offer burgers, pasta, seafood...no real identity for this restaurant. but the food is good, its not bad, but good. With some of their dishes they try to use items from that time period like a lil pail to carry the bread and skillets for there desserts. Huckleberry's is a favorite of our family. We only get to visit a couple times a year but we're never disappointed. Tonight was one of those visits and it was great. The staff were wonderful and very accommodating. They have a great 3 course meal that we like to indulge in as it includes the very delicious dill pickle soup AND a slice of huckleberry pie! A favourite restaurant for many years Huckleberry's never disappoints! I brought my sisters here today as they had never been and they loved it! The steak Benedict was outstanding although the steak was more well than I would have liked it was still delicious. Service was very friendly and prompt. We went there last night, they weren't at full capacity, we ordered at 6:30, at 8:30 we asked why we hadn't gotten our food yet as we saw all the tables around us getting their meals (All of which got there after we did) and the waitress's response was " I'll check the tickets to see what time yours went into the kitchen. I've never had to wait 2 hours at a restaurant, nor will I ever. So just a heads up. If you plan to go there, clear your schedules and prepare to be there ALL night. read more

This is our go-to for family dining in Wetaskiwin. They have recently undergone a facelift, the tables and seats have all been updated (which is nice, it was dire!) The food is incredible, and the good ol' standbys are all readily available. The only thing that I wish was different would be the addition of a kid's menu that isn't also the senior's menu. In a town with a lot of young families, I can see this as only being good news! There are a lot of selections for the kiddo's to choose from, but some of the choices on that menu are puzzling. read more

This place used to be not only the best restaurant in Wetaskiwin but better than most restaurants in Edmonton. Then it happened....like so many places in this town. The dill pickle soup is still very good but right after that is when the disappointment starts. They cannot for the life of them cook a steak properly and the side dishes are cold and mushy. They use to make this Tennessee whiskey shrimp that was to die for but.....they took it off the menu. More times then not the service isn't very good. Either rude, slow and if you're unlucky BOTH! We haven't gone here for about 6 months, but at one time were once a month patrons, on and off, for the last 20 years. Like another persons comment in here; don't order anything other then a beer because they are either out of what you want or the fancy mixed drinks suck. I've been to Huckleberry's on four occasions, all of them were met with friendly service, good food and a warm atmosphere. The decor is very western, and there seems to be a story that goes with many of the pieces in the restaurant. My most recent visit was to indulge in a steak, which I got with potatoes, veggies and garlic toast. It was cooked perfectly, and tasted SO good. I was incredibly hungry. For dessert, my SO and I split what I believe was a crumble/cobbler of sorts. My only complaint was that the dessert was ice cold, and I was under the impression that it was supposed to be a warm dessert. I've also tried their bannock taco, which was incredibly filling! I wasn't able to finish it, and ended up taking it home. Salad is delicious, and I'd recommend the house salad. I will never forget seeing the owner, Paul, taking the time to re-seat some patrons who weren't happy being sat by the window since it was cold. He immediately moved them, with absolutely no fuss. He tries to make everyone as comfortable as possible, and the level of service here is great. I am always met with good, friendly service. Food was decent, not great. Service was horrible. Waitress left us high and dry for 20 minute stretches and it wasn't even busy. Kids ordered desert... Another 20 minutes to show up. We had a table of 15 but come on.... She couldn't even come to the other end of the table to take orders from people. I wasn't going to give her a 5% tip. Then bill arrived... After we had her fix it, because she messed it up, we see she put a 15% auto gratuity on it. Then it all made sense... OMG! My wife and I decided to take a short trip east of Edmonton and poke around Wetaskiwin and Camrose. Lunch in Wetaskiwin at the Huckleberry Cafe was an experience to be remembered. We visited this popular spot a few years ago after a favourable review in the Edmonton Journal and we were not disappointed on our return visit. We loved the pickle soup (bought a jar to take home); thoroughly enjoyed the locally procured and butchered hot roast beef sandwich c\w rich, made-from-scratch mushroom gravy. Service was friendly and not over-bearing. Lot's of pride in their local, fresh approach. My wife and I dine out a lot and can tell you Edmonton has nothing in this restaurant-type\price point that can compare. We didn't have enough room for Huckleberry pie so we bought one and enjoyed a slice for dinner that night. read more
