So I celebrated Mother's Day a week late with my family because what I like doing and what my mom likes doing is vastly different. So I honored my mom on Mother's Day, my family honored me today. Which involved leaving the city, exploring backroads, and going for long walks. Our last walk at pigeon lake left us late and my standby the Ecocafe was closed. So we ventured to Wetaskiwin for dinner around 7ish. Because of COVID-19, almost everything besides the fast food chains were closed. The Fresh Grill Kitchen & Bar was open and a Chinese place. Honestly I chose this place because it was in a historic brick building and I love those kind of places. I was nervous because we were the only people there, but I was pleasantly surprised. Disclosure, nothing pretty to look at on the inside. I would love it if the décor matched the history of the beautiful building. It looks like a backrow bar in a small town. The menu was diverse which made me nervous as well. Sometimes these things work out well, sometimes it is a restaurant that is trying to hard to please everyone. Server was polite. We ordered a variety of dishes. I ordered the spicy Singapore cashew stir-fry with tofu instead of meat. My oldest daughter ordered the chicken bruschetta fettuccini, my husband ordered the fresh grill burger and for our little one we ordered the kids pasta. Orders came out in a timely manner (as they should we were the only ones there). It was delicious. My dish was perfectly cooked with nicely fried tofu and fresh veggies. The sauce was lovely and I didn't even need the hot sauce I requested. This is as good as any dish I have had in Edmonton. My youngest daughter's pasta came out early which I appreciated. Taking a taste of her sauce, it definitely was homemade with some nice flavours without being overwhelming. She gobbled it up. My daughter's bruschetta fettuccine was lovely and the sauce was flavourful and rich without being heavy. I would love to recreate this at home. The only disappointment was my husband's burger which was just okay. Next time he is going to order the butter chicken. I think this restaurant is really skilled with the sauces, so try a pasta or a stir-fry. I don't think you will be disappointed. read more
