We stopped at Hubcap Grill in the Houston Hobby airport during a recent layover while traveling home. It is about par for what you'd expect from an airport hamburger/beer bar. It took awhile to be seated because the hostesses up front could not handle the amount of diners showing up. Plenty of open seating in the restaurant, the hostesses were simply moving slowly. The service was decent. Angela was our waitress, and she did a good job. The food was decent enough as well. The grilled chicken salad was fresh and ample for a meal. The chicken wings were a bit undercooked and fatty for us, but the buffalo sauce was good. All in all, a decent meal in a crowded airport. We try to avoid airport food, but this was an extended delay day at the airport. Hubcap Grill is decent food if you need to each at Hobby Airport. read more

Hubcap is located inside the Hobby airport. The employees are working hard to services customers. The interior of the restaurant is very dirty and check your seat before sitting to make sure you don't sit in food. You are at the airport and the prices reflect that. This is a decent burger. There are other burgers in the airport that are better, but I wanted to try the food at this place since I have never eaten here before. Beer: hopididdo is a great IPA. Service: young lady was working hard and lots of tables. Order quickly. Food: cheeseburger basket. The burger bun is a very soft fluffy bun. The bottom bun was stone cold, so I removed it and ate the upper bun only with fork and knife. The burger patty is very thin, but had a good flavor. The onions, tomato, lettuce, and pickle was very fresh. The French fries were hot and abundant. read more

For airport food, this isn't too bad. We ordered from the Togo counter which was a lot faster than waiting 20 mins just to get a table. The service gal at the Togo counter was great. Our order took about 12 mins and she brought it out with a smile and packed with all the condiments, napkins and utensils. I ordered the spicy grilled chicken sandwich. It was just ok. It did have good flavor but I prefer a real chicken breast patty that is breaded, rather than a chicken nugget patty. Hubby ordered the bacon burger and he said his was 3 stars as well. read more

We had a long layover at the airport & wanted get some lunch while we waited. Hubcap grill had plenty of seating with ample space for our luggage's, we sat pub style table. Our waitress was really nice, got us started on waters & gave us time to browse the menu. After a while we decided & our waitress came back to take our orders. I opted for the classic cheeseburger with tots, and partner got the bacon cheeseburger with fries & the kiddo got the hangover burger I believe with fries. The wait for the food wasn't too long, about 10-15 minutes. They have music playing & tvs in the bar area. Our food came out, everything was hot & fresh. The fries were delicious & well seasoned. My tots were lil over cooked for my liking but still good. Our burgers were juicy & seasoned. It was nice to have a space to eat, sit down & enjoy a meal. read more

This place, just a few weeks ago, was the location of a Pappas Bros. joint. They were booted from the airport because ... probably politics. But I digress. Hubcap Grill had a location in my hometown for a minute, and their burgers are some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of eating. This stop, however, was merely a beer run prior to hopping on a plane. The burger menu here is somewhat limited, which is understandable at an airport. The beer menu sufficed. I was a party of one and the host and hostess sat me at the bar even though there was a plethora of open tables and no wait. The service was a solid 2/5. I asked for a water and ordered a seltzer and bacon cheese fries. I never got my water even though I was at the bar. The staff was more interested in each other and tasting drink samples than anything else. My fries were cold and so the cheese coagulated almost immediately after I got served. I did not ask for a redo bc I couldn't even get the water I had ordered initially. So it was cold hard fries, cold yellow cheese, and sprinkles of bacon I really enjoyed my hard seltzer. So the food was OK - I had a Hangover Burger, which was a good choice. Don't bother with the bacon and cheese fries - they're mediocre at best. I'm sad to say the service was subpar as well. The burger was supposed to come with cream gravy. It didn't. I asked for the cream gravy and some ketchup. The waitress said she would get it but never did, and the place was not that busy. I suspect they were out of gravy and didn't want to tell me that. The drinks were another story entirely. I ordered an Old Fashioned. I'm not sure what I got, and it was good, but it was definitely not an Old Fashioned. Seemed like a combination of some kind of whiskey (either bourbon or rye, most likely), lime juice, and possibly simple syrup or agave nectar. Is the food bad? Not really. But it's not great, and there are better choices at Hobby Airport. read more

Place was cool not too busy for a Sunday afternoon waiting for my flight. Easily grabbed a table for 6 and ordered a bacon cheeseburger. Plate came out in about 10 minutes and the burger was huge. Stopped by the Hubcap Grill, Southwest terminal next to gate 44 to make a take out order at approximately 9:15 am on Feb 27, 2024. There were no less than 5 employees standing behind the counter all talking and totally engrossed in their telephones, one employee looked at us and continued what he was doing so this prompted us to leave after 30- 45 seconds of being ignored. Only giving 4 stars due to service , server was friendly but not attentive .Hostesses were not the brightest either , immediately seats us at the uncomfortable bars, which we declined, I'd suggest them assume if asking to be seated most would rather have a table. After receiving our food we only asked for two things and server missed getting us those while the restaurant was not so busy. Then when getting the bill our bill was $65 and some change we gave a $100 bill which he said he couldn't break? And proceeds to say let me ask my manager ? Almost everything on the menu was min $15 if u have a party of like is just 3 ordering a few things it can easily rack up to $65 , we almost ordered cocktails but didn't had we it would have easily been more and yet he can't break $100? My server today was extremely friendly and very prompt to deliver Not so good food. I first tried the pancakes, which were crumbly and dry. The bacon was soft and bouncy so I sent back both. I tried the waffle burger combo and again not so great; better than the pancakes, although that's not saying a lot. Subpar airport food. There's a reason the line at BWW is so long and this place never has one. Typical airport prices with food quality and service that does not match so it feels overpriced, even knowing it's in an airport. Servers are not well trained and spend a lot of time either standing around or being completely slammed (even if the amount of customers is the same.) Ordered a chicken tender basket (3 tenders + gravy + fries) and upgraded the fries to cheese fries and a coke. Forgot cheese initially, but when side of cheese arrived it was pretty gross cheese sauce (and I usually don't mind "fake" cheese.) The chicken tenders were alright, nothing to write home about. Gravy was heavy with minimal seasoning. Soda was good tho, well carbonated and balanced flavor. There is no "ambiance" here. I am usually a sit in an airport restaurant for a while with a drink and a snack girlie-- but this time I just ate my food and left. It's not comfortable seating, it feels dirty, and it's just not a fun place to be. It really says something if I'd leave my table for a chair at my busy gate. Usually at HOU, I am a BWW girlie, but the line was so long I decided to try something new. This is a skip. Make the walk to CFA or wait in the BWW line and you'll be much more content. Wow, how do I start, ordered a burger with fries, and the burger came out quick, However, I thought wait that was to quick for them to cook the burger from scratch, and when I received it I knew why, it was cold, so they must precooked it then reheat and brought it out, the bun itself has to be some of the cheapest bread you can get, the quality was just poor, fell apart as we ate it, the fries We're good but that was it. They called the manager and he didn't even talk to us he just gave us a credit of $10. That's not what I wanted however I'll take it, with the high airport prices I would think that they would put a little better quality in the food. We went in with very tempered expectations based on prior reviews of the Hubcap Grill but we were very happy with our lunch during a layover we had in Houston on 12/2/23. Our server, Ryan, was absolutely wonderful! He was so personable and checked in on us exactly the right amount to not be intrusive but to ensure we felt taken care of. My husband was very happy with his Hangover burger and I really enjoyed my chicken. The place was clean and the food was hot and came quickly. First of all the burgers are expensive but that's expected at an airport. I ordered the chicken mushroom Swiss did not look like the picture hardly any mushrooms and a quarter of my bun had no chicken. The kids upfront to take peoples names are just that ...kids. Wife wanted mushroom Swiss burger but they only had chicken w/mushroom and said it would probably be an up charge which is almost 20 bucks in the first place. We came during a mad rush at the airport, and were seated and eating hot wings with 20 minutes. The wings were delicious....some of the best we have ever had. My husband and I split a black and blue burger and they actually split it onto two plates for us. Later, my mother-in-law ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, which was not on the menu and they happily made it for her, and she said it was delicious. We spent a couple of hours on our layover at the Hubcap Grill at IAH, where we came for a couple of drink. Our server, Eli, was fantastic: friendly, genuine, kind (helping another elderly customer), attentive (without being intrusive), and helpful. I was returning from Mississippi and this restaurant seemed a good option and since I was alone I tried sitting at the bar to grab a burger and a drink. I arrived at 11:55 am and after waiting almost 10 minutes I noticed bartender was too busy talking with the barback employee and me and another customer were waiting to be served. To my left there was a couple waiting the same amount of time to close their tab and they were not even making eye contact with costumers. I walked to the host and asked to be seated somewhere else since it looked like they were not into providing a good customer service. I moved to a table at 12:07 pm and in less than 2 minutes server Sarah came was very polite and took my order that was out in less than 4 minutes. Sarah was attentive and checked on how the food came out and if I needed anything else. To my right there were 2 dirty tables that remained dirty until I almost finished my meal. Tables were cleaned at 12:26pm. I never saw the managers on duty Edwin and Tray nor they came to me to apologize for the poor customer service the female bartender provided. Food was good taste was good and my server was very good. Managers seem to be disconnected from the operations and so their employees. If you are ever in the Hobby Airport go somewhere else to eat for sure you will have a better experience. read more

The only reason for three stars is that there is a chance for a much better future here. Currently not up to par for the Hubcap grill. Luckily flights had to be caught. Bacon cheeseburger was Luke warm but had solid fresh veggies so great potential here. The tator tots on the other hand were fried so hard there was little potato left it was just a solid crunch. It's not like the service time was rushed there was plenty of time to get it right. Milk shake was great so keep that up! Said it defeated purpose of To Go. Would not let us in with a chuckle. Very poor decision and practice of restaurant. We will not be back. read more
