Best wild mushroom gnocchi I've had in decades. The Negroni was fabulous as well. Will definitely be back for more deliciousness!

They have elevator music in the background. (The food also came out about 10-15 mins after order) I would come here again and highly recommend it.

And it helped that it was within walking distance. Upon walking in, the staff let us pick an empty table. The place is rather typical looking for a family-run Japanese restaurant. It was clean, which is the most important thing for these quick lunch stops. - Takoyaki: OK. Good size, covered in bonito flakes. It was quite well presented and tasted fine. My only complaint was that it was close to lukewarm not hot, so it didn't seem freshly made. The greens seemed unnecessary. - Vegetable Tempura: OK. Nothing special. A good tempura batter is very light and airy, but this one was a bit bready. - Shoyu Ramen: OK. Good size, and flavors where there. The pork was the thickest piece I've ever had in a ramen bowl, but very tender, so no real complaints. - Chicken Teriyaki Rice: Not recommended. Chicken was tender enough, but I prefer chicken with skin. Plate was drowning in sauce. Edible, but not enjoyable. Service was simple and nice enough. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, we were satisfied. The food here caters to what locals want and expect, and they generally do a fine job with it. If I was hungry and was in the area, I would certainly consider it.

FOOD Salt (Shio) Ramen ($16.50) The broth here makes the difference - thick, and true to flavour when one steeps a long time with bones - it's good and flavourful, yet not too salty and it doesn't leave you thirsting to drink anything thereafter. The Japanese-style BBQ pork slices, delicately-boiled egg and bean sprouts of course work well. Pork Egg Don ($18.25) Great pork tonkatsu - lightly battered the way it should be and it overall a great choice of dish if you're not looking for something soupy! Fried Rice ($4 for regular size; $7 for large size if buying an entree) I think it's worth it - it's tasty but a little salty and the portion size is good ofr sharing between two people! === 3. SERVICE I've only ever seen three people work there before and so while service is professional, they can get a little busy when the house is fulll (which is not uncommon). But it's worth it. And the leader/owner (?) is always cognizant of little kids including my own and is ready to hand out a choice of a random Pokemon card to bring more smiles into the establishment! === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's all, a little dim, and maybe updated in the 90's. The lights are different coloured, but they clearly spend the money on the staff and food. There are a few two-seat, and four seat tables/booths. There is a single table that seats up to eight. Wheelchairs and baby strollers could fit but only barely and they may best stay near the front. Parking is about as lucky as you get in the shopping complex which seems to ebb and flow throughout the day!

Simple,…read morerelaxed layout and direct, no nonsense service, but the ramen is fantastic and prices are reasonable. Mostly spicy bowls (one non-spicy called the "Salt" that I always get due to food allergies). Lots of options for "extras" (e.g., meat, corn). You can get a basic side of fried rice that is a nice add-on. It has a warm, social vibe and is popular with the younger crowd. Appreciate that the guys offer my kid a Pokémon card at the end of each meal - makes him feel welcome.

Apparently, Ramen Arashi is part of a Canadian chain that originated in Banff. It's a clean restaurant and the service was good. The bathroom is very clean and nice. It was on the late side for lunch (past 1PM) so we were fortunate enough to be able to walk right in and get served quickly. The takoyaki wasn't the most octopus-stuffed I've ever had, but it was solid! My husband and I split the black sesame tonkotsu ramen and the yuzu shio ramen. Both were unique in their own ways; the black sesame flavor in that tonkotsu was super pronounced and it was a very hearty ramen. The yuzu shio was super light and very flavorful; the yuzu flavor was also super pronounced. Also love the amount of tender chashu slices they give you with each bowl. The lettuce in the yuzu shio bowl was not my favorite; I appreciate the thought of more fiber/something healthier but the soup is so hot that it cooks the leafy greens immediately and I don't love wilted lettuce in my ramen. But all the other toppings were great; bamboo shoots were super flavorful, nori was crunchy, and eggs were perfectly jammy. Great place to grab a bowl of ramen if that's what you're craving!

We finally had to find out what all the hype was about!…read more We kept seeing this Japanese restaurant get top ratings and heard it was really popular in Nanaimo, so we decided to try it for ourselves. Was it actually worth all the hype? We ordered the Sora Omakase Sashimi (8 types, chef's choice) along with a few other special rolls, and the sashimi was the real star of the show. The fish was incredibly fresh and generously thick-cut, with a great variety of premium sashimi. We were impressed by the creativity, generous portions, and presentation. Compared to other sushi places we've tried in the city, the quality and attention to detail here really made a difference. The prices are a bit higher than some other restaurants on the island, but after tasting the food, we thought the quality made it worth it. If you love sashimi, we especially recommend trying their sashimi options. There are plenty of premium choices. The restaurant itself has a modern-chic atmosphere, and it was BUSY. We saw a mix of locals, visitors, and a steady stream of takeout orders. Despite the crowd, our food came out surprisingly quickly, and the quality stayed top-notch. Whether you want a casual sushi night for two or a place to celebrate with a group, the menu has enough variety to please everyone. We came in wondering if the hype was real, and left understanding exactly why it's so popular. Honestly, Nori deserves the 5 stars from us. We're not the Michelin Guide, but we can definitely see why people are talking about it. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 4/5 Presentation: 4/5 Parking: 3/5 Tips: * Reservations are highly recommended. * Walk-ins are accepted, but be prepared for a potentially long wait during busy times. * The menu is extensive, so take your time deciding. * Great option for everything from date night to group celebrations.
